One of the fastest ways to make money quick is to sell things you already have.  In the US the average person has way more than he or she needs.  In this time of frugality we are starting to down size.  But instead of throwing those things away why not trade them for a little cash.  Of course I am talking about pawning your goods at a pawn shop.  Where I come from these are called quick cash stores because you are selling the item to the store instead of pawning it.

The way a pawn shop works is you take an item to the shop and the pawn broker loans you a certain amount of money based on the value of the item.  You then have a set length of time to come back and pay off the loan at which time you get the item back.  The time limit is usually a few weeks to a month or two.  If you have not returned in the specified length of time the pawn broker will try to sell the item in order to pay off the loan.  Of course, if you don't want the item any more you just take the money and don't return.  Some pawn shops will buy items outright.  If they do this they may pay a little more because they can turn around and sell the item immediately.  You should find out about this option.

In my state there are mostly fast cash stores.  They always buy the item straight out and offer it for sale the same day.  You will not make as much money usually as if you had sold the item at your own garage sale, but you can make some quick money.

So what if you don't have any of your own stuff to sell?  Then you need to get some from other places.  Have you ever seen those signs on lawns that say free stuff.  It is usually a pile of stuff that a renter has accumulated and now that they renter is moving they don't want any more.  When ever you see one of these signs stop and see what is in the pile.  You never know when something might be worth ten or twenty dollars.  I have seen working stereos and TV's given away that could easily reach thirty to forty dollars at a fast cash.

Another place to get free stuff is at a recycle center.  You will often times see bicycles set off to the side with a free sign.  Go ahead and take the big, wash it up, fix the flat tire, and then take it to a shop to trade for cash.  There is nothing illegal or immoral about this.  The item is free and once you take it the thing belongs to you.  Since you are the owner you have the right to do what ever you want with it.  This includes selling it.

How can you make money at someone else's garage sale.  it's easy.  Find an item they have for sale that looks like a bargain.  Tell them you like it but you don't have much money.  Ask if they are fleixible on the price.  Hopefully they say yes.  If not put it down and say thank you.  If you do get the first yes ask what they would sell it for.  When they give you a price tell them you don't have that much and offer them half of the original price.  They are now dealing an it will be harder for them to say no.

Usually the person will say yes as a relief to get rid of the unwanted item.  Once you complete the deal, take the item to a pawn shop or fast cash and resell it.  You can almost always make back your original investment with a profit.  As you do this more and more two things will happen.  First you will start to get a feel for what items are worth and be able to spot a bargain.

Second you will get much better at negotiating.  Both at the the garage sale and at the pawn shop.  Never take the first offer at either place.  Instead, always counter to get the ball rolling.  Try different tactics and you will soon know how to buy low at the garage sale and sell high at the pawn shop.
