Photography is a great hobby, other than capturing the precious moments of your life, you can use it as a form of expression much like an artwork. What if I were to tell you that it is possible to make money from selling those photograph? Yes, it is possible, but much like any other method of making money, it takes dedication and perseverance in order to make it work.

Before we begin though, here are some information that you need to know before you begin selling your photograph.

Much like blogging or publishing your article on the internet, selling your photograph could earn you perpetual loyalty earning as long as there are people downloading your photos. However, it is kind of tricky to choose the right photographs since the audience or the buyer of the photograph in this case is a quite specific and niche audience, you have to keep in mind that the most of the people that buys photo on the web comprises of mostly designer, for example web designer or pulbishing company, which needs the photo for specific purposes.Therefore, the photo of a sunset let say may not perform that well when put up for sale, to lets say, a photo of a banana for example.

Another issue that you would have to take note of is the quality of the photo, some of the websites have criteria of the resolution and size of the photo submitted to them. Generally, they prefer pictures with high resolution. So use the right set up for your camera, and if you really want to make it big, consider purchase good equipments for the camera and maybe considering upgrade for your camera into a DSLR.

In simple terms, if you want to be successfull selling photograph online, take alot of good photos and submit frequently, as more photos means higher chances of selling your photographs.

Sometimes, you might want to consider enhancing the photo through software to make it more 'sellable'. Here are some of my software reccomendation.

Adobe Photoshop

One of the most popular graphics editing software around and arguably one of the best, it has a steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you can edit a photo with limitless posibilities.

Adobe Lightroom

You can edit thousands of photograph very fast with this program. You can make various adjustments to the photographs easily with a few clicks with this program such as cropping and adjusting the resolution of the photos.

GIMP

One of the best open source graphics editing software around, meaning that its free, simillar to photoshop, it has steep learning curve but once mastered, photo manipulation will be a snap with the program. You can download it here

SUMO paint

Is an online photo editing site which bears striking similarities with photoshop. You can find the site here

Picassa

A free program to organizing and editing photos developed by Google. The program is simple to use and is powerfull enough to match comercial programs. You can download the program here

Lulu Is website publishing your books, you can make a photo album collection here and sell it to the public, the advantage of this site is that it lets you set your own prices for your publishing.

Deviantart a great site to sell your stock photos and artworks through a number of their products such as painting, calendar, etc. The owner of the photo or artwork is entitled to a percentage of the earning made by the selling of the product.

Redbubble simillar to devianart, you can sell your photo and artwork here and earns a percentage of the income for each item sold.

Shutterfly earn money selling photographs here or you could also earn money reselling wedding album, photography books and etc.There are also free photography lesson available here.

Alamy purely for selling photograph, boast one of the largest photo collection online.

Shuttershock earn $0.25 per downloaded photo here.

Dreamstime earns from 50-80 % from the stock image you sell here.
