Introduction

With the overwhelming amount of social networks on the internet, it only makes sense to take advantage of your membership in these communities to earn some extra cash online. Not only will you have a ton of fun and make new friends but you have the opportunity to advertise for free. Advertising in a social network can be much more effective than other methods online because people tend to be more receptive to a familiar face. I'm going to share some very simple and easy ways you can start earning some extra cash online in social networks.

Design a Professional Profile

Most social networks give you the opportunity to design your profile page. You should think of your profile page as your calling card. Your objective is to create a professional and well designed image for you and your business. Your photo should be a nice head shot or you can use a company logo. Take the time to write a professional "about me" section. Share some information about your business and your experience.

You can use the blogs and bulletins to inform other members what products or services you have available. Spend some time joining or creating groups to interact with other members in the social network. Make sure you visit the forums, you can learn quite abit there. Use all the social networking features to your advantage. Most importantly socialize and have fun with other members in the community.

Get Paid to Participate

New social networks are popping up with monetary incentives for their members. Paid forums like MYLOT pay you to post discussions and to respond to other members discussions. The amount you earn there depends on your participation and the quality of your posts. You will also earn a commission of the earnings people you refer make. You also have the option to design your own personal space there too.

Yuwie is a relatively new social network very similar to Myspace, the big difference is you will be getting paid to do the things you normally do in any other social network. Again, the amount you earn will depend on the amount of time and participation you commit too. You will also earn a commission on the earnings made by the people you refer.

There are some more opportunities like the ones mentioned above but these seem to be the most popular. I believe a lot of these communities will be surfacing in the future. I think it's a win-win situation for everyone.

What is Yuwie?

Ad Revenue Sharing Social Networks

What is an ad revenue sharing networks and how does it work? Many of the social networks online are filled with advertisements, they even appear on your profile page. If a social network is offering you the opportunity to participate in their revenue sharing, you would earn a share of the income generated from ads clicked on your profile page. Your share of the revenue normally ranges between 50-100%.

Each ad revenue sharing operates a little differently, you would need to read the terms of service to fully understand their program to learn how much you would earn and where you would earn. For instance, your share of revenue could be generated from strictly your profile pages but you could earn from blogging on the site. Some social networks offer upgrades which would definitely increase your earning potential.

Sales Spider and Dada are currently offering their members the opportunity to participate in the Google Adsense revenue sharing program on their websites. Sales Spider offers a 50 % share and Dad offers and 85% share. The ads appear on your profile pages automatically.

Places like Lazzeo and Bizpreneur operate a little differently. For one thing, you have the choice of selecting the ad network you want to appear on your profile page. It can be Google Adsense, YPN, or any other ad network of your choice. You would need to copy and paste the ads to your profile page yourself.

The option to upgrade is sometimes available in revenue sharing programs. You would really need to evaluate whether or not an upgrade is worth the investment. I definitely would consider how long the social network was up and running and the reputation of the webmaster before you invested in an upgrade.

Referral Rewards and Commissions

Some social networking sites will pay you a flat out fee to refer new members to the community. I'm aware of a few social networks that pay $1.00 per referral. Other networks like Yuwie, Dada and Mylot will pay you a commission on the earnings the members you refer make. You can easily find out what the levels of earnings would be in a social network by reading the faq's or the terms of service.

You can easily make a nice chump of change without much effort other than referring them to join. It's an added bonus if you are lucky enough to recruit some active members. A lot of times, you may be able to recruit new members but it doesn't help you earn very much if they don't participate. I would suggest sending a welcome email and let them know you are available if they need any help or have any questions. Be social, that's what social networking is all about.

Another idea for making some quick referral cash is taking your offline groups online. If you are in a church group, PTA or in any other group, you can easily join a social network with awesome referral perks and invite your offline group members to join you online. How about creating a family connection online? Think of the possibilities.

Build and Promote Your Own Social Network

Oh my I tried this a few months back and I kind of put it on the back burner. Places like Ning and Snappville (previously me.com) allow you build your very own social network. I'm a member of Ning but only as a member of social networks created by other people. Anyone can create a social network but you do have to pay for a premium service to have the option to run ads on your network. Otherwise, you won't have the option of earning any money for the ads running on your social network.

I'm a little more familiar with Snappville. This is where I created my social networks. I didn't have to pay any fees to create the Lingerie Lounge and Anime Fetish social networks. I do participate in the Google Adsense revenue sharing program there and earn a 50% share of the revenue generated from my community. Creating a social network there is fairly easy but you would need to make an effort to promote your social network and recruit new members.
