Make Money With Hubpages - As A Website Tool
61
Hi Khamori,
I read the first answer you received and though it may generate a little money, let me tell you why Hubpages is really used by many of us and how it makes us money. This may be a bit difficult to understand for a beginner, but I'll try to explain it.
Hubpages isn't a money generator for most people who submit articles. Few people who read the articles go anywhere except another hubpage, unless you provide them a link within your article (as I will at the end of this). This is because the vast majority of hubbers are using it as a means of planting an affiliate link. If you can get a person to click your affiliate link and it results in a sale or a sign-up you earn a commission.
In the first answer you received you will notice that when you were told to "Make sure you click here," the destination of that link (displayed at the lower left of your screen when you rolled over the link) had a long string of information. That information was his affiliate information. That assures he will be credited with sending you to the destination and may earn him a commission down the road. I'm not saying it is wrong to do that. I do it, as most everyone does. Just be wary of people hyping something that they are affiliated with by earning a commission.
An affiliate free link will have no extra information included behind the address of the destination. That is, it will end with the ".com", ".net", or whatever extension is used for the domain (website) you are being sent to. Except in a few cases, like the video link, below.
Back to the topic of earning money with Hubpages.
Hubpages is used to plant affiliate links, as I said. It is also used to create backlinks to our own websites. These are links that search engines (SE's) pick up, and with enough backlinks Google and other SE's give our websites a better ranking of importance. We want our websites to be found in other ways besides paid advertising. You'll notice that my website is displayed in my avatar. Though not a link, people may get curious and type it directly into their browser address bar. Just another way to get visitors.
Don't consider Hubpages as a way to make money directly. You will make only pennies from your efforts if you only use Hubpages as your source of income. You need your own website and use Hubpages and the many, many similar websites as a way to drive traffic to your website. Your own website is where you make the money through all your affiliate links you will provide to people and those links should be quality companies. What you sell is a direct reflection of your website quality.
Adsense that the first writer mentioned? Adsense is a means of last resort to make money. I use it, but I place the ads at the bottom of my website. This is because if a person clicks on an Adsense ad they are taken from your site to the ad destination. You lose the possibility of making a better sale on your website and you are only paid pennies from the Adsense click. I put them at the bottom because if a person reaches the end of my website, they are probably not interested in anything they found and were going to leave anyway. Better a few pennies than nothing at all.
He also mentioned eBay. Their affiliate company is ePN and you are not going to be accepted telling them that you have Hubpages as your means of driving traffic to them. They have become extremely difficult to join. Most affiliate companies will not accept you without your own website. The truth is that Hubpages is a tool used by people to get visitors to visit our own websites or affiliate links. We may provide good, solid articles, but the main purpose behind it is to make money and that is usually by driving traffic to our own website, or in may cases to a company that is selling something so that a commission can be earned.
If you really want to make money then you need to build your own website. You'll get some honest information about what it takes to make money with websites and how to become an affiliate.

Hmm I was always thinking the same way about hubs. For me, hubs are a great way to gain some link love for my websites. Penies are not my target :D
