The Perfect Halloween Costume
Making your costume is so much more fun! There's some pride to wearing something that you spent some time creating from start to finish. Every year my sister and I try to one up ourselves with Halloween. It's the one time of year you can be incredibly crazy and not seem to nerdy. I have been Jem(from the holograms), Cheetara(thundercats), and Storm(Xmen). This year we have been working on new ideas for our costumes. I know it's early, but if you make your costume you need time to get the materials and put it together. Greatness takes time.
With so many kick ass movies out this year it would be easy to choose a character: The Baroness(GI Joe), lt Uhura(star trek), someone from Harry Potter, If you had the time and patience a sweet transformer, an Xmen from the Wolverine movie, or you could be one of the million Michael Jackson tribute costumers.
Since I like being off the wall with my costumes I have my default: Beyonce's single ladies video, which is kind of standard. Then there's the fun: powerpuff girls, malefonce(sleeping beauty), any disney princess haha, Riku(Final Fantasy X2), my sister really wants to be sailor scouts(Salior Moon), and she also wants to be Kagome and Kikio(Inuyasha). We also were considering being Highlander(there can be only one!), a Mortal Kombat character(but all the women are forgettable, everyone only knows Rayden, Sub Zero, or Scorpion), and Lara Croft...so that leaves me with a lot of thoughts, but very little decisiveness. I think the winner is going to be She-Ra the princess of power, again leotard, tights, boots, cape and a skirt with a shield, crown and sword as accesories. Don't forget make-up this makes of brakes the costume.
Basically if you have a leotard(in any color) you can diy Halloween costume! No matter what! My pictures below are both leotards, tights/leggings, boots, wigs/died hair and fabric. The cape was 2 yards of fabric plus some gold spray paint. If you want to be more creative sit and write down all the things you want to be and see if you have any of them in your closet. If you don't Goodwill probably will. The last resort is Joanne's fabrics and sew what you need...but leave time! Accessories are something you should buy for the most part, and again early, you don't want to have to have a bow and arrow and then Target only has axes left! The dollar store and 99 cent store have amazing accessories as well but again if you are not going to be a herculian type of person then the swords may not play well with your costume. Plan and buy online so you get exactly what you want.
