Make a Mothers Day Card This Year!

Yes, you can easily create a special card for your mother and be proud of it. Handcrafted gifts are so thoughtful and sincere because of the time and effort you put into it.

Even if you think it's not the fanciest card around, your mom will appreciate every bit of it, take from me, I am a mom too and love to recieve any gifts that made from the heart. So I hope you enjoy making the following card as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Accordian Style Card

The following template involves creating a card using an accordian style pattern that supe easy to assemble.

When the card is opened, you are pleasently surprised to see how big the inside actually is. Above you see the card when it is closed and on the right you see what it looks like when it is opened. Cool right?

Supplies

  • construction paper of your color choice (I love purple)
  • glue stick
  • white card-stock
  • scissors
  • embellishments (photos, lettering, decoration...)

Directions

To create the card that is shown, all you need is 3 rectangular pieces of construction paper.

You can make the card as long as you like, meaning add as many pages to your design as you see fit. You'll understand once you get going.

Take your first page and fold on a angle. This will create your first fold and give you a guideline to cut to create a square.

What you end up with is a perfect square with a diagonal pleat. Next you take the square and fold it in half.

Once your fold is complete, unfold and lay flat.

Now you have a diagonal pleat and a vertical pleat.

Again you would fold your paper in the opposite direction. Reopen and lay flat.

Now you have a diagonal, vertical and horizontal pleat. This is your basic folding pattern.

Repeat these steps 2 more times. This will form the length of your card.

Assembling the pieces

Now that you have all your squares, you need to line them up like the picture below and glue the end triangles together. This will barely show in the final design.

Next you need to cut 2 squares out of the card-stock that will fit the end triangles and glue in place. This will give your card stability.

Once you're done this, you want to fold your card. This might take a few tries and it's almost impossible to describe the steps to this, but I did take photos to try and guide you through.

You can see how I folded the first page, now you would turn it over and do the same and again a third time.

Once you've folded it a few times, it naturally folds this way, making it easy to open and close.

All that's left to do is decorate as you wish.

You can embellish your card based on a theme or just add whatever you like.

You can also use this template to create other special day cards such as fathers day, christmas etc...

I hope you've enjoyed this craft and will create one of your own for your mother this year.

Thanks for actually providing a tip that can be used! So many articles on making cards are no more than a supply list and encouragement to use your imagination. I appreciate a concrete technique.
