How to make a rag rug

I love this idea of making your own rugs, I‘ve made a few for the bathrooms and they work great. I found using old sheets work best...

You will need

Old sheets 2 or 3

Scissors

Large rug needle

Fishing line

Thimble

Needle and thread

Cut you sheet in long strips about 2 inched wide,

Sew strips together at ends until you have 3 long pieces, (try mixing colors)...

Take your 3 strips and begin to braid them together, to make a tight braid twist the material as you braid it...

  • Tip... you made need to fasten one end to something to help pull tight while braiding...

When you have a ridiculously long braid, it's time to begin rolling it together; this is the hard part.

Roll the braid flat against it's self, use the rug needle and fishing line to sew it together on the back as you work your way through ( use thimble to help push rug needle threw). Check occasionally to make sure there is not a twist in the braid, it will make a lumpy rug.

Make it as big or as small as you want and decorate your home or give as a gift... I hope you enjoy making your own rug...Have fun...

Remember you can use any old rags...it's up to you.

I used to have a whole lot of these rugs when we were first married. I never thought about actually making them for ourselves until I saw this hub. It sounds almost simple enough that I could do this. Thanks for posting!
