tips tricks and downfalls of eyeliner.......

Eyeliners

I get asked a squillion questions about Makeup. Its hard to answer all of them especially when every face is different. What works for one will not always work for another.

So this is why i come to blogs to try to help explain some of the tips, tricks and myths about Makeup.

I would appreciate any comments you would like to make or questions to enable me to write what you want to know about rather than what i think you want to know.

So as a Professional Makeup Artist who has worked around the World and with some of our best known Celebrities i have learnt my own tricks.

Any one who reads my blogs would know after working for Chanel for so long i am a HUGE fan of their products because i have used them and they are always sublime.

But i also have used many other brands such as MAC, L'Oreal, Yves St Laurent, Dior, Revlon, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Laura Mercier and many many more.

The beauty of Makeup is that not only does it transform a face when done well but you can use Big name brands or cheap store name brands to create a very similar result.

The biggest differences in eyeliners are this you have the pencils which i think most of us have used or seen, you then also have the liquid liner made famous by people like Audrey Hepburn, and then you also now have the eyeliner pots which are normally applied with a brush.

Each one has a different use and a different affect.

Eyeliners are generally used to actually make your lashes long thicker and longer, so with application PLEASE always apply it as close to the lash line as possible.

So with a pencil liner is is normally used to add depth to the lashes and just to make them look thicker while also balancing out other Makeup that has been applied.

To use it is as simple as applying it from the inner corner of the eye on the top lid then follow the lash line along till you get to the end of the eye and the end of the lashes.

Like with all Makeup it is essential to blend so you may want to blend this line through either with the end of the liner if it comes with a blender or with a cotton bud. You can also add a little to the bottom of the eye again following the lash line and blending. Try not to add as much and go lighter in the application. You may also want to stop around 1/3 of the way in from outer eye then blend inwards unless you are doing a smokey eye which calls for application to almost surround the eye.

We then have our liquid liners, these tend to be used for a more dramatic look and to also use when applying false lashes.

If you have seen pictures in most magazines or even the well known 'look' that Miss Hepburn used to have you will be aware of the liquid line.

The liquid liners are a little harder to use and now come in pens which you can wind the solution down into the tip, or they come in a small pot with brush.

The best way to use is to use after the eye makeup has been applied, you will hear all different rules with this, but i truly believe it looks better and more impacting applied after.

Again following the rules set out above with the application, the only difference being that this is normally applied a little thicker (in line) and made to almost suggest you are wearing false lashes already. Or as i said applied after actually applying false lashes.

You would also normaly wing the end at the outer corner of eye, this will give a lift to the eye, only do something natural and make sure you dont extend too far. You can normally also balance out the eye and the heaviness that this will create to the eye, by also applying some pencil to the bottom lashline. Remember this is for a more dramatic look so most people who would be doing this are old hands at it. If its your first time you may want to pop into a cosmetic counter first and ask them to show you how to apply.

We finally get to the pots. These are my new favourites, as with them you can use them to apply with the affect of both of above, normally the pots are small and a little like thick paint.

You take the brush and either dip it in for use for a thicker line or think it our with some water for a lighter line, with both a little water doesnt go astray as it makes it even easier to apply.

I find this one of the easiest and the best ways to now apply eyeliner, purely as its fool proof and makes application so much easier, less messy and more precise.

They are huge these days and if you ask most of your favourite brands they will now have their own version of it.

Personally my favourites are Chanel's and MACs and if anything i like MACs more.

(And for me thats saying something !)

I know that this may not of answered all your questions but just remember that i am here to answer any you may have , all you need to do is ask.

But also just know Makeup is fun, its inventive and its NOT a tattoo, it will always wash off.

So go and experience what there is out there for you.

Ant x
