Making Money through Writing

While the pay isn't as lucrative as a paid writing position or a career as a freelance writer, there are many opportunities to make money online through writing content that can supplement or in some cases, replace your income.

The amount of money you earn is dependent on the depth and quality of your writing, but for a prolific and talented writer, it's easy money. All you need is creativity, writing skills and time.

The Best Websites for Earning through Content Creation

HubPages: Obviously, HubPages makes the list as one of the best earning opportunities online. While the payments come from ad revenue (AdSense) or commission from sales (eBay, Amazon), quality content and interesting topics will get you the pageviews you need to make some money. The real money is to be made by truly understanding how to best leverage AdSense in your Hub. See resources below for link to articles on using AdSense strategically.

eHow: eHow pays based on a proprietary formula that isn't disclosed, so your earning potential remains a mystery. All you can do is speculate based on other's experiences with the site and how your own articles do. By writing popular how-to articles, it is possible to make a monthly income. The best part is that your earnings appear to increase over time as long as your articles remain online. I outline my eHow earnings monthly on my blog.

Associated Content: While I haven't personally tried AC yet, I've heard good things about it from many bloggers and writers who do. You can make money through performance bonuses (pageviews) and also through upfront payments which vary by request content topic.

Squidoo: Like HubPages, this site is works by having writers create a "lens" on the topics of their choice. Payments are made based on ad revenues and commission from parters for retail goods like Cafe Press and Amazon.

Brijit: This website is one of the newest and pays for 100 word summaries of news storys, videos, movies and more. The rate is $5 per accepted summary and that's the small catch. There's competition. Each article and topic is up for a limited number of reviews and the best one is chosen and paid out. While there is a little more work involved (reading the story and then writing the summary), if you like to read (or watch or whatever), it's fun and easy.

Per Per Post: This site is useful if you have an existing blog. Advertisers offer a set amount of money for an approved post on their company, product, or services. The pay seems to range from $3 to $150. Each post has requirements that must be met in order for you to get paid and payment is delayed until 30 days after you post, to ensure that you've left the post up, unaltered.

ThisisBy.us: Another site similiar to AC.

Odiogo: Bloggers can sign up and have blog posts translated into voice, which are downloadable by listeners. Money is made through embedded ads.

Do you have experiences with these or other online writing sites? If so, I'd like to hear them!
