Making Money Online: Writing for Multiple Websites

If you have spent any time searching the internet for information about making money online writing content, you will find that many writers are involved in writing for multiple websites.  There is a certain wisdom and logic behind this decision and it is one which I embrace.  I will use this brief article to explain what I believe to be the logic behind writing for many sites.

1. Increases Exposure

If you haven’t noticed, the internet is a pretty big place.  It is pretty easy to get lost and never be found.  But, if you are trying to make money on the internet, you have to be seen.  You have to get your content out there.  Most people on the internet probably only hang out on certain sites much like in the physical world.  While I see some of the same people across different writing sites, there are several individuals that will be on one site but not another.  By writing for multiple sites, you can get yourself seen and known which will increase your exposure.

2. Enhances SEO

There is nothing like using articles on other sites to give yourself a link or two to some relevant articles.  Not only will this increase your exposure directly and lead to cross traffic, but it may also increase your position in search engine rankings and increase your search traffic.

3. Increases Efficiency

After spending several hours researching an article, do you really want to write just one out of all the information that you gathered?  I didn’t think so.  Why not spend an extra 20-30 minutes to produce another article or two or three and increase your presence on the web while improving the results for any keyword searches related to your topic?

4. Enhances Earnings

I am currently getting Adsense impressions from 4 different locations: my blog, HubPages, Xomba, and InfoBarrel.  I am also earning money on eHow and have a few lenses on Squidoo.  There is no doubt in my mind that I am earning more overall because I can earn a little here and little there that adds up over time.  I have already earned something on all these sites except InfoBarrel.  Since I am just starting there, I suspect it won’t be long and I will be getting some revenue there as well.

5. Increases Safety

Recently, an article sweep at eHow removed several articles from many of the users.  Some people lost almost 20% of their articles and many were their biggest earners.  I don’t want all of my online income to be solely dependent upon one site.  What happens if that site is sold or shuts down?  It pays to diversify.  Right now I am building up my article count on HubPages and eHow primarily.  But as time goes by, I want to be able to increase my online articles at the other websites as well so that my income is fairly evenly dispersed.

These are the main reasons that I am writing for multiple sites and trying to build an online article portfolio for making money across those different platforms.  Sometimes it even helps maintain interest to work with a different site from time to time.  You may have other reasons for writing on multiple websites.  Please feel free to share.

I had an idea that I should be doing this! Now I know I should! :D What you say makes so much sense, its a bit silly to ignore anything that could help our earnings assuming that is what we are here for! I am very impressed with your hubs Kidgas! A Jedi Master you are ;)

Thanks for the kind words. No, not a Jedi master. But I am a sponge for information and read everything I can get my hands on when it comes to a particular topic. If you have noticed I am into investing as well. I have about 70 investing books in my library at home. Because of the amount of reading I do, I have learned much.
