You're Your Own Boss. Imagine the Freedom . . .

Have you seen the ads?

You know . . . the ones that promise you can make money working for yourself from home?

Imagine it . . . you get to work when you want (can even work in your PJ's if you like) and avoid having to commute to work. No boss to deal with and no office politics.

Sounds great, right? The question though - is can you really make money in your own business working from home?

If you are like millions of people around the world right now, you may be considering starting (or have recently started) a home-based business.

Right now there is a major shift from people getting out of the rat-race and joining the home business revolution. And for good reason. In this article we will discuss some of the reasons you may wish to consider a home-based business and some of the important considerations before deciding what type of business to join.

So, why would you leave your corporate job with all of its perks and benefits and start a home-based business with all of its risks?

The simple answer is lifestyle!

The reason so many people are leaving their jobs and security behind to venture into the unknown world of entrepreneurship is because they are sick and tired of having to commute to work each day, spend all day locked up in their cubicle, put up with office politics, doing work that doesn't really make their heart sing, and earn only a small amount of what they are capable of earning.

Today, people want more out of life and no longer accept the fact that they need to be tied to a job for forty, fifty, or sixty hours a week just to earn an income to pay their bills. Today, people want to escape their rat-race . . . they want freedom!

What sort of freedom am I talking about?

Hmmmm, that's easy. The freedom to . . .

  • Work for themselves and make their own decisions.
  • The freedom to do the type of work they are passionate about.
  • The freedom to work with people they like.
  • The freedom to structure their days to suit themselves rather than a boss.
  • The freedom to decide what sort of projects they will spend their time on.
  • The freedom to work in their PJ's.
  • The freedom to save two hours a day from commuting.
  • The freedom to go to the beach today instead of work if they want.
  • The freedom to earn the income they choose.

Working for yourself in your own home-based business can give you all of these freedoms and so much more.

But what about the risks, I hear you ask?

Well, yes, there are risks involved, but these can easily be managed if you have the right action plan, support structure and system in place.

The key is to make sure you properly plan out your home-based business before you make the decision to leave your job. In fact, many people will start their home-based business in their spare times while still working a job. Once the business begins to grow, they will then stop working at their day job and work the home-based business full-time or part-time. This is a smart option if you have some spare time that you could divote towards your new business venture.

Many people ask me what I recommend as the right home-based business. There is no right answer to this question . . . the answer will be different for everyone.

A couple of key things to consider are. . . do you want to be completely on your own starting a business from the ground up, or would you be better off with a business model where there are people to help you, a track record of success, proper training, and a proven duplicatable system?

If you prefer the comfort of the second option, then that is probably a very wise choice.

So, how do you find a business like that?

There are two different categories to consider: The first is franchising. A good franchise that can be run from home will offer you a proven system to follow, proper training and mentors to turn to for advice and help.

The only problems with franchises are that they can be expensive to get started and you will need a buget of greater than $10,000 just to start.

The other option, and one that millions of people are turning to, is Network Marketing.

Network Marketing offers the benefits of a franchise, i.e., a proven system to follow, proper training and mentors to coach you. The essential difference is the investment to get started. Typically with most Network Marketing companies, you can get started with between $500 - $2000.

The key is to think carefully about what type of business you are best suited for.

The first thing you will want to do is find a mentor. Someone who has already been down the path of starting a business and has had some success with it. When you find a mentor like this, you will be able to leverage off of their experience.

When I menor people, they often comment that I have save them years. They do not need to make the same mistakes I have made, so they fast-track to their success.

Yes . . . you really can make money from your own home-based business. Simply find the right mentor with the right opportunity and then get to work!
