These bacteria cannot live in an oxygen rich environment. When benzoyl peroxide comes into contact with the skin, it breaks down into benzoic acid and oxygen. In order words, benzoyl peroxide provides an oxygen rich environment right on top of your skin! This allows your pimples to breathe and also gets rid of the acne causing bacteria. Cool huh?
