How to Make WoW Gold!

This guide will tell you how to make Gold on World of Warcraft starting from level 5 all the way until you enter the chilling wastes of the North, where you will truly be able to make a fortune in Gold in a short time. In the Market right now, there are three primary ways to make gold.

  • Playing the Auction House: This is the whole game of World of Warcraft for some people. They log on to their WoW account, they 'play' the Auction House for a few hours, do a few daily quests, and log out. Their adventures done.
  • Gathering Professions: If you combine this with your knowledge of the Auction House, and a little help from an addon or two, you will make some great gold starting from the beginning of your adventures in Azeroth.
  • Crafting Professions: Though this is a little more difficult, and takes more starting capital, there is a certain Crafting Profession that can net you a lot of gold... IF you learn how to play the Auction House! (Do you see a trend here?)
  • Daily Quests: Now the Gold rewards that you may see from some of these Daily Quests may not be equivalent to the gold you could sell by mining that beautiful Titanium Deposit, but you can practice your Gathering Professions while on your Daily Quests, to 'double dip'.

If for some reason you don't have a computer that is capable of playing WoW, look here.  If you can't afford 50 dollars for a game and one expansion, 40 for the other expansion, and 15 dollars a month, might I suggest Farm Town?

The Auction House

The very first thing that you need to do is get a little Addon by the name of Auctioneer.  Then you need to scan the Auction House once every day (warning, this takes a while, so go use the toilet, clean your room, or do some homework while Auctioneer does its thing).  When you have done that once a day for a week (through two weekends if possible), you will have developed a database of most of the saleable items in the game, but also what prices they have gone for over this time.  It will automate a lot of your auction house activities for you, including filling out prices if you are auctioning multiple stacks of consumables, ore, herbs, leather, or whatever your little heart desires.  Though you need to do some tweaking to really get this to the point you want it, Auctioneer is the best at what it does - makes you Gold on WoW!  Now Auctioneer alone will not make you gold (unless you are the new Epic "Merchant" class as I described in the introduction), so you will need to go out, level up, and get something to auction!

Gathering Professions

Probably the easiest, and most practical method of getting gold is to choose two 'compatible' gathering professions as soon as possible (as early as level 5), and mine every node you see, pick every herb you see, or skin every monster you are able to.  When I say 'compatible' professions, I mean do not take mining and herbalism - tracking both is a pain in the rear.  You may hear of players telling you that you can easily switch between tracking methods, and mods like gatherer make it possible to use both 'incompatible' gathering professions, that it is more trouble than it is worth.  Try either mining or herbalism along with skinning, and you will have plenty of money to buy all of your mounts, the best gear, and anything else you may need.  I would personally suggest mining and skinning, because mining seems to consistently bring in more money through level 80.  Now I know that I will hear from some herbalism fans that I'm wrong, but this is my guide, so go away! :)  Besides, herbs tend to be spread evenly around most maps, while mining nodes seem to be around the perimeter of most maps and mountain ranges, making gathering a more lineal progression, and easier over all.

You will naturally progress in your gathering skills as you level.  Ideally, you will not need to 'back farm' to keep your gathering profession in line with your level, but at some points, especially later in the game, it may be necessary.  Just keep leveling while you are gathering, and eventually they will both catch up.  If not, you just have that much more opportunity to get loot and ore.  Never a bad thing...

What About Crafting Professions?

Again, this is primarily choice, but there is really only one Crafting profession that is really going to make much money, and that is without any super rare (or expensive) patterns.  (DIS)Enchanting is potentially as useful as any gathering profession, and you will save that much money on getting your own gear enchanted.  The beauty of this non-traditional gathering profession is that you can do it from the comfort of your own city.  All you need to do is have a toon at a level sufficient enough to DE everything you send to them (so unfortunately, you will need to be level 80 - or close to it) and use your Enchantrix addon along with Auctioneer to figure out if the uncommon, rare, or epic item is worth more by disenchanting it or selling it on the auction house as is.

Taking this a step further, you can also shop around on the Auction House for greens, blues, and purples that will sell less than what the disenchanted materials will net you, and buy them, disenchant them, and put the materials right back on the Auction House.  It takes moments to do, and the profit can be pretty astounding!

Daily Quests

Daily Quests are your ticket to gaining Reputation with associated Factions (with their own intrinsic rewards - up to, and including EPIC FLYING MOUNTS!!!) as well as a hefty gold reward.  Faction Gear can be equivalent, and sometimes surpasses Tier Gear, and so it is worth your time and energy getting Exalted with a number of Factions in Northrend, and Outlands.  You can follow some of the other advice while you are doing your 'Dailys' and really rack up the Gold.

There are Daily Quests for most every aspect of World of Warcraft.  PvP, PvE, Crafting, Gathering, and more.  Look for those Blue exclamation points, and you are well on your way to being Exalted by all you see!  Check out the WoW Wiki for some great, specific information on Dailys that will truly make you rich, give you some amazing gear, and a super fast flying mount.
