Find what's right for you!

Freelance writer's who are just beginning have a hard time starting out. Some great places to start are all over the internet. There are even some sites that will pay whether its upfront or pay per click or pay per view. There are also some great informative sites out there that help new writers network with others and also help improve writing skills.

Hubpages is among the first. Using the tools available through these pages you can make some extra income from adds placed on your hubs. This is great for those who like to write about all kinds of subjects not just ones in certain categories. It may take a while to get your earnings up to the payout level but it is worth the wait. An extra $100 dollars is after all an extra $100.

Associated Content is another great site for beginning writers to make some extra dollars. The pay is between $1 and $20 per article according to the terms on their website. They take exclusive, non- exclusive and display only content. Each article submitted also makes money on pays per view. Display only content does not allow you to get an upfront payment where exclusive and non exclusive can. However you retain complete control over your non exclusive and display only content and can edit or delete them at anytime. Some flaws however are that it can take up to a week before you get a response on exclusive and non- exclusive articles.

Helium is a great site for new writers. The peer support there is fantastic. They pay on articles per click but you can make money through the marketplace if your submissions are selected. You can earn a lot as articles requested in the marketplace run from $16 to well over $100. This is a great place for freelance writers to get their feet wet and in touch with publishers. They also have a writer's critique forum where you can get feedback from other writers. The contests they run pay out too. They also run lots of promotional items through the site that also pay off.

E-Lance is among these sites also for new freelance writer's. They pay out well depending on your bids and negotiating skills. You market yourself here and you only get 3 connects as a free member. These can be used up pretty quickly and since you only get 3 a month you may want to sign up for the membership package which costs around $10. Also you must pay e-lance a fee when you are paid because of the escrow account they use. The fee is not terrible and worth it in the long run if you can get some good buyers.

Each of these sites has advantages and disadvantages. Its up to you the writer to determine which one is right for you. These are just starting places to get your foot in the door to bigger and better opportunities. Also these are not full time jobs but you may get the opportunity of writing becoming one by getting connected with publishers. Just keep on writing it will pay off!

What about writing on your own blog and selling advertising space and banners etc - If you write on hot topics.

Just a note - Helium's Marketplace is certainly worth looking at - you have to compete to sell your article, but the payouts can be good if you're successful. However, if you're just going to post your articles on Helium's main site in expectation of earning passive income, you can expect to earn less than 10 cents per article per month. I've written about it in more detail on this Hub:

Marissa I agree about Helium. I don't know, I liked it at first--it was the first writing site I stumbled on, but haven't done much of anything there lately. The internal competition part of it is distasteful to me.

Thanks for the mystress Gaia! All the best to you!

Hi. What do you think about Associatedcontent.com. I believe it is as good as Helium, if not better.

Hi Rahulvalia! I just joined both about a month ago so its hard to say which I like better. I enjoy the contest at helium but I really like getting paid at Associated content. I have made around $20 so far at AC with just a few articles with upfront payments where at Helium I have just pennies because I have not gotten chosen in the marketplace yet. Both have their pros and cons.
