Twelve Sided Snowflake

Free Paper Snowflake Directions

Free directions and how-to photos. Get your family together to make these fun snowflakes. Then tape them to windows, decorate holiday packages, add them to your winter scrapbooking pages or frame them in a scrapbooking frame and display them as art.

And unlike Christmas cookies, they are non-fattening.

Six sided snowflake

No more square snowflakes.

I learned this in grammar school.

First, take a piece of notebook or printer paper. Cut it into a square (see photo 1).

Then, fold it carefully into thirds, creasing the paper. This takes some practice to get the three panels exactly the same (see photos below).

Take your scissors and trim off the jagged tips either straight across or in a scallop, ice cream cone or zig-zag shape. (If you have those fancy scrapbooking scissors you can use those for this.

(see photos below).

If you want a hole in the center of your snowflake, cut off the tip.

Now, being careful not to cut all the way across, cut out random shapes along each side.

Open up your beautiful snowflake.

Tape to windows or glue to scrapbook pages.

Want to make a fancier snowflake? Once you have the hang of it, take your 3 panel paper and fold it in half. This makes a 12 sided snowflake. Use fancier papers if you wish.

You can make various sized snowflakes by varying the size of your starting square. Use gift wrap to get a larger square.

They can also be tucked into your holiday cards.

Cutting a paper square.

Fold 1/3 over and crease.

Fold other third over and crease, making each section as even as possible.

Cut off tips so that it looks like an ice cream cone.

Cut out bits here and there being careful not to cut all the way across.

Finished paper snowflake.

Another six sided snowflake.
