76Taking a Vacation In the Maldives
Why would anyone want to take a vacation in such an out of
the way place as the Maldives? The words beauty and
serenity come to mind and the Maldives resorts have much to
offer.
Taking a vacation in the Maldives will be a very unique
experience. Although it may not seem so because of the local
culture, there are some very popular Maldives resorts
including the brand name Hilton Maldives Resort which attracts
tourists and offers the vacationer a wonderful, relaxing
vacation with all of the pampering needed to have a great time.

What are the Maldives?
The Maldives are a series of 1200 tiny, low lying coral
islands located in the Indian Ocean and surrounded by powdery
white sugar like sand and turquois seas. These islands, also
called atols, have been described as "the flower of the
Indies" by Marco Polo and as "one of the wonders of the
world" by Ibn Batuta.
The Maldives stretch 900 kilometers from north to south. The
temperature averages in the 30 degrees celsius range or 80s
farenheit. If you travel to the Maldives, you will be taking
a vacation in the Maldives subtropical climate so be prepared
for subtropical weather. The peak season for tourists is
from November through April.
The Capital of the Maldives
The capital of the Maldives is Male, a very tiny island with tall,
more sophisticated buildings and a major hospital, quite unlike
the rest of the islands, many which are still uninhabited. That
is the beauty of taking a vacation in the Maldives. Only about
90 of the islands are inhabited and the others are fair game
for renting a private boat to see the wonders and serenity that
await you on the sandy shores.

Leading Industry in the Maldives
Travelers who wish to take a vacation in the Maldives do so
because of the beauty of it's surroundings, Tourism is the
leading industry in the Maldives and the Maldives resorts
welcome tourists with open arms.
The Maldives are a leading attraction for scuba divers because
the location and geography of the coral reefs attract tropical
fish by the millions. Snorkeling will yield wonders on the
coral reefs below the surface that many divers and snorkelers
have never seen before. In fact, there are even compression
chambers available for those who may get in trouble due to
inexperience.
Is Taking a Vacation in the Maldives Expensive?
Taking a vacation in the Maldives will be very expensive
with an average cost of a super bargain at $200 per night
to almost $1,000 per night.
However, in return, the resorts in the Maldives, especially
the Maldives Hilton, are exceptional properties, high
class and offer a very relaxing vacation. In fact, the
Maldives were recently voted as being the number three most
desired destination in the world by the 2008 Trip Advisor
report.
There is plenty to do within the resorts themselves and that
is a good thing because there is virtually no other commerce
on the islands. They have a bartering system and their most
prized possessions are coral. You can't take the coral off of
the island though.

What Should I Wear While On Vacation in the Maldives?
While on vacation in the Maldives, be sure to dress modestly,
especially if you are a woman. The law of the land is Muslim
and they take modesty very seriously. When traveling to the
capital, Male, it is especially important to be aware of how
you dress.
