This is by no means the first article about Mamma Mia on HubPages.com. However, having loved this film since I first saw it at the cinema in the Summer of 2008, I have watched the DVD yet again this week and thought it was about time I shared my love of this film.

Although I say it is one for the girls there will be some guys who may enjoy this film. My Hubby, who is more of an Abba fan than I, does not. However, he begrudgingly watched Mamma Mia this week and seemed pleasantly surprised.

So what it is about Mamma Mia that it makes it such a great feel good musical, that appeals to all ages, the world over?

 The plot of Mamma Mia is simple. Sophie has been brought up by her mum on a lovely Greek Island. She is about to be married and more than anything else in the world would love her Dad to giver her away, There is just one problem. Sophie has no idea who her old Dad is. A chance encounter with her mother's old diary leads her to believe that he could be any one of three men. Sophie takes the bull by the horns and invites these guys to the Island. Her mum has no idea about what is going on and neither do the guys.Other guests arrive on the Island and we follow the wedding plans, hen and stag night and final preparations.

Will Sophie marry Skye? Will she discover who her Dad is? Will the wedding go to plan? Well of course you will have to watch the film to find out, won't you?.

So what is so special about Mamm Mia?

The music

It is only with age and time that I can fully appreciate the music of Abba. It is classic, melodic and above all fun. Meryl Streep may not primarily be a singer but she can certainly hold a tune. In fact she sings so very well. Sure Pierce Brosnan is no singer but even his rather gruff voice fitted the film. It made it seem more natural.

The performers

Having already touched on this I have to say that the cast of Mamma Mia is perfect. From young Sophie to the secondary characters everyone is perfect. There are a handful of performers who play various characters who are supposed to be the locals and these are such fun. They reminded me of some of the Greek people I have met whilst travelling. British comedy actress Julie Walters iplays one of my favourite characters.

The humour

This simple plot has many funny moments. The humour is innocent and charming.

The sentiment

Yes Mamma Mia may be a feel good film but it has its sentimental and tearful moments. Have a box of tissues close at hand.

The setting

Filmed on the Greek Islands of Skiathos and Skopelos the scenery is lovely and typically Greek. As any one who reads my hubs knows I love the Greek Islands. I have never visited either of these Islands but I have always wanted to visit Skiathos. This film makes me want to visit even more

Watching this film

As the nights draw in and the weather turns cool Mamma Mia is perfect for a cold evening's entertainment. It is hard not to jump up and dance when you watch this film and it is impossible not to sing along. I am not a lover of musicals usually but this film is different somehow. The songs seem to fit in so well with the plot as it moseys along.

For the guys there is plenty of female interest and for us ladies there is Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth plus some younger guys for the younger girls im the audience.

So have some summer fun and sun in winter without venturing out of your home. Enjoy Mamma Mia.
