Mamma Mia! movie review
65- Buona Sera, Mrs Campbell - Trailer - Cast - Showtimes - The New York Times
An overview of Buona Sera, Mrs Campbell, including cast and credit details, a review summary, and more. - ABBA - The Site
Mamma Mia! is a great time. It was just pure fun! Meryl Streep was terrific and the supporting cast of Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, and Amanda Seyfried were all wonderful. Pierce Brosnan isn't the best singer, but his acting was still terrific.
The plot of the original Mamma Mia! Broadway show and this movie were loosely based on the 1968 film Buona Sera with Gina Lolabrigita, which is about an Italian woman who has relationships with three American GIs in a short period of time during WW II and isn't sure which one got her pregnant.
The plot of Mamma Mia! has been updated a bit, but it's still basically about a woman who slept with three different men in a short period of time, got pregnant, and had a baby girl. Twenty years later, the daughter, is getting married, she finds her Mom's diary and the entries where the Mom talks about her trists, tracks down the men her Mom slept with and invites them to her wedding.
The Greek islands, Skopelos and Skiathos where Mamma Mia! was filmed were gorgeous and absolutely breath taking. It made me want to board a plane to Greece tomorrow!
I wasn't an ABBA fan before going to see Mamma Mia!. However, between the music, scenery, performances, and pacing, it transformed me from someone who had disdain for this 70s group to dare I say . . . a fan.
People came out of this movie singing and dancing, something I haven't seen before. If that's not a recommendation and a show of a good time, I don't know what is. I'm even tempted to see it again!! And that never happens.

I put in the links to Buona Sera and the Abba site.
I didn't notice any laughs making fun of Pierce Brosnan's singing where we viewed the film. I agree that he can't sing well. His voice was tense and forced and didn't sound like he enjoyed what he was doing. However, his acting was still good.
Hey, Ms. ChaiRachelRuth--
Thanks for the review. I was lukewarm before, having read on-line reviews that didn't seem particularly enthusiastic, but your review, citing a singing/dancing crowd of happy movie-goers exiting beside you made me want to go join in the fun.
Also, since I don't actually travel myself (I am officially a "no fly" zone!), I get my travel buzz at the movies. On the strength of your recommendation, I think I'll book a $9.50 ticket for this coming weekend on the MAMA MIA! non-stop to Greece.
Thanks--and reiki hugs,

Hey jme,
Thanks for the feedback. It's definitely the kind of film to see for virtual travel. Let me know what you think after you see the movie.

Helpful review! Did you put in the links at the end or did Hubpages do that?
I heard on locat TV that Pierce Brosnan gets laughs when he sings, and not the good kind. The tiny clip they showed supported that. What did you think of him?
