Man Vs. Food

For those of you who do not watch Travel Channel, now would be a good time to check it out. Man Vs. Food is a hit show because of a gracious host with an appetite for food and life. Host Adam Richman travels throughout the country to sample of some of the countries finest offerings of food and take on some insane challenges.

The show started airing on the Travel Channel in December 2008 giving the Travel Channel its highest ratings.

Adam Richman visits three popular restaurants in the city of his filming. The first episode features Adam visiting Columbus, Ohio. His travels take him to Thurman Cafe, Schmidt's Sausage Haus, and Ohio Deli. On this episode, Adam tackles the Dagwood challenge. It is a 2 1/2-pound cold-cut sandwich with fries that challengers have 30 minutes to defeat. In addition to visiting the restaurants, Adam gives viewers insights of the host city. In Columbus, he is filmed at Ohio Stadium, home of The Ohio State University Buckeyes football team and filmed in front of the Ohio State House and Batelle Riverfront Park.

Back in mid-July, Adam Richman came to my hometown of Springfield, Illinois. The crew was in town for four days.

In Springfield, Adam visited D'Arcy's Pint Bar and Grill, the Cozy Dog Restaurant, and Joe Rogers Chili Parlor. D'Arcy's Pint is known for the Springfield food delicacy of horseshoes. For those of you not familar with a horseshoe it is two pieces of toast, with your meat or egg of choice, and fries covered in cheese sauce. You will only find this delicacy in Springfield. The Cozy Dog is famous for the cozy dog (a batter dipped hot dog on a stick). Something you will find at fairs and carnivals. Adam's challenge in Springfield was to eat five bowls of firebrand chili at Joe Rogers. Anyone who eats one bowl of firebrand chili gets their name put on the wall. Trust me, this chili is hot and I have never attempted this feat. Adam matched the record of eating five bowls of the firebrand chili but there is a rumor that record has been shattered since the showing of the episode.

Some of the cities Adam has visited include:

  • Amarillo, TX
  • Honolulu, Hawaii
  • New Orleans

Upcoming episode have Adam visiting Baltimore, Detroit, Little Rock, AR, Brooklyn, NY, Anchorage, AK, Tuscon, AZ, and New Jersey.

Adam Richman is not a competitive eater as he states at the beginning of the show. He is very engaging to the audience. He has worked as an actor and in the food industry.

Man vs. Food is a show you definitely want to catch on the Travel Channel. To learn more about the show, visit www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Man_v_Food. In case some of you are wondering, he has conquered food eight times and losing to food four times.

The show airs Wednesday nights 10PM/9PM Central on the Travel Channel.

We have not seen this on the travel channel but this sounds similar to some of the things seen on the food channel which we love watching. Always fun to see new and different places. Thanks!

Adam is nuts, I am surprised they have not taped an episode of him being carted off or air lifted only to find an ulcer was found in his stomach or worse a heart attack!
