Nathan Sawaya gave up an attorney career and builds LEGO sculpture arts.

Nathan Sawaya, 33, abandoned a career as an attorney in 2004 and has pursued the LEGO sculpting art as a full time job. His home has plastic crates stuffed with LEGO bricks in every hue, stacked against the wall. There is a computer sits in his home but is not functional, it is one of his art creation. It is made of red, yellow and blue LEGO bricks.

CNN writes everything in the room is made of LEGO; a cash register, a monkey, a bowl of fruit and a vase of flowers.

Sawaya uses these bricks to create sculptures, both big and small unlike any other seen. He just takes the kid out of the toys and puts a masterpiece instead. And many of his creations are much sought after. He says he may have given up a safe career but this art creation is his passion and ekes out a good living out of it, some of his creations sell for thousands of dollars. He is currently on a two year nationwide tour, “The Art of Brick” exhibiting his works.

His recent display was viewed by tens of thousands at the Lancaster Museum of Art in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The next display will be at the Discovery Center Museum in Rockford, Illinois on June 15, will be open until September 3, 2007.

Here are some of his creations.

This sculpture depicts an individual breaking out of a gray box, much like one may break out of a depression or a challenging situation.

'Red' was originally titled 'Escape' as I envisioned this man climbing out of the loose red bricks that surround him. However, I changed the title because many people see him sinking downwards."

‘Blue’: There are strong arguments on both sides that he is either putting himself together or taking himself apart. I like the idea that he is a self-made man.

Glad he is following his passions instead of going with what everyone is doing.

Wow! What an amazing craft. I think it took some guts to quit his career and become a lego sculpter. Great article, very entertaining.
