Work related stress

Work related stress is one of the most common forms of stress and affects the majority of workers.  The bad news is that it is seriously damaging for you mentally as well as physically. Frequent bouts of stress lead to depression, and heart problems.  It is thought that work related stress leads to heart disease and cardiac arrest, this is partly because stress at work leads to addictions such as smoking and alcohol.

It is very hard to manage work stress without quitting your job altogether. Nowadays we need every extra penny as times and life in general have become very expensive. However I have found a few good ways of managing work stress that will not break the bank.

Managing work stress

Managing work stress- communication can be a saver

There are many things I do when dealing with work stress.

  1. Talk things over with a work colleague. Chances are things arent as bad as you think, and when you bottle many things up inside it makes them all seem alot worse when individually they may only be minor problems.
  2. Write things down. I mean make a full list of everything that is bothering you. That way it is easier to deal with work stress as you can identify each problem and tackle them individually. Also write down ways to solve each problem. This makes things more realistic.
  3. Meet up and talk to your friends more. Be more sociable in general. Do things that will take your mind off the stress, go to the cinema, go to a bar go shopping, whatever takes your fancy. Work related stress does nto need to take over your life, it needs to be managed.

Managing work stress - the healthy way

Here are some more pointers on dealing with work stress.

  1. Get 6-8 hours sleep daily. If you go into work tired you are more likely to make mistakes which will end up giving you more stress. Lack of sleep combined with stress is a vicious circle.
  2. Exercise. Not only is it good for your health and helps you take your mind off work related stress but it also releases feel good chemicals from the brain which help deal with work stress.
  3. Eat a healthy balanced diet. Studies have shown that a diet rich in vitamins B, C and E are essential for lowering stress levels.
  4. Eat chocolate in moderation. Chocolate releases feel good chemicals too which help boost your mood which in turn is great for dealing with work stress.

Dealing with work stress

I hope these seven simple tips help you in managing your work stress. Stress is an unfortunate part of life but an essential part, so if you learn how to manage your stress you can live a longer happier life/
