Manga Translations

There are countless sites where you can find manga translations. Quite harder, of course, is finding the exact manga book you want translated into the language of your choice. But, even so, there are some places where you can look. So, in this hub, I'll talk a little of manga translations and where to find the best translated manga out there!

Manga translation in English

Well, this one's a no-brainer. If you are reading this article, chances are very high that you dominate quite well the English language. And this is, by far, the most translated language for all manga works and so, the most easy to find. The usual suspects are, of course, sites like OneManga or MangaFox, that contain quite an extensive list of almost all the mangas ever translated in english. They also have the most recent manga works updated regularly on their site, as soon as new chapters are released.

Even so, there are quite a few other smaller sites, created by true fans, that devote themselves to translate mangas from a particular manga show or mangaka (manga author). In order to find them, it's also quite easy. Just google the name of the manga or mangaka you like fallowed by the word 'translation' and you'll find it soon enough.

Of course, you'll also find actual English manga books in any specialized store - or you can order it from sites like Amazon, which contain an extensive manga library.

Manga translation in languages other than English

Now, this is where it becomes complicated. Some people are not that well versed on English... And even if they are, I think it's much more pleasurable reading a manga in our own language, don't you?

Well, your best try can be Manga Helpers. You'll find there an extensive community of people, from different geographical spots, that will translate the raw mangas not only to english, but to languages as Portuguese, Spanish, or Italian - these being the most frequent. Anyway, for really successful mangas like Naruto or Bleach, you'll see that they have it translated in many more ways - like French, German, Hungarian, Turkish and even Arabic! And much more, I won't dare to name them all ^_^'

Then, there are quite a few smaller sites, devoted to only one language. Again, these are normally regular fan sites. I can recommend MangaPT as a nice Portuguese website, with several manga publications translated in that native language.

I believe almost any language will have this kind of sites. Unfortunately as I don't dominate those languages, it becomes quite hard for me to find them. So, please, foreign viewer, if you know of some really great site that does manga translations in your language, add a reference in the comments section of this hub and I'll post that information in this article. My main aim is to create a nice looking table in this article with a good site to each language!

Of course, you'll also find manga books in regular book stores, translated in your language. Some languages, of course, are better represented than other. French people love their manga and have a huge library of translated manga works. Spain is also a big fan of manga translations. As for Portugal, my home country, we're quite lacking in this department. Most of the times, is either English or French for us. Grrrr :S

... or translate manga yourself!!!
... or translate manga yourself!!!

Translate manga yourself

If you're a manga fan and know a little bit of japanese, why not supporting the community and translating manga yourself?

There are several advantages to it:

  1. You train and improve your japanese (or the other language, if you're actually from Japan, ^_^') by doing it!
  2. You'll contribute to make thousands of people that don't have your skills, very happy indeed!
  3. You'll share your love for the art in a altruistic way and will go to anime heaven when you die ^_^'
  4. Or you can go pro, doing it for a living and big bucks, by joining a localization company (you know, the guys that actually do officially translate the original mangas in the first place!)

Think about it! But not for too long. You know you want it! So just go for it!!!

If anything else, are definitely going to anime heaven my friend! Translating manga certainly sounds like a lot of fun. Great hub and great idea for bilingual manga fans to involve themselves by giving back to a community doing what they love!
