leave from NBC News when her husband became a candidate in the 2003
recall election for governor of California.
n 1977, Tom Brokaw
introduced Maria to Austrian bodybuilder and actor Arnold
Schwarzenegger at a charity tennis tournament being held at the home of
his mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver's. Schwarzenegger married on April
26, 1986 in Hyannis, Massachusetts, at St. Francis Xavier Roman
Catholic Church. They have four children: Katherine Eunice
Schwarzenegger (13 December 1989 in Los Angeles, California), Christina
Maria Aurelia Schwarzenegger (23 July 1991 Los Angeles, California),
Patrick Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenegger (born on 18 September 1993 Los
Angeles, California) and Christopher Sargent Shriver Schwarzenegger (27
September 1997 in Los Angeles, California).
During the term of
her husband as governor of California, Shriver was initially hesitant
in her role as wife of the Governor. Some speculated that she felt her
husband did not attempt to win the governor's seat in the recall
election that brought Gray Davis from office. When Arnold announced his
candidacy on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, who supported his
candidacy. Since Governor Schwarzenegger took office, Mary has
continued to support her husband and has taken several key initiatives
as first lady of awareness of the contributions of women to the state,
working on practical solutions to end cycles of poverty and encouraging
all Californians to participate in acts of service to their
communities. Like her husband, proposed a series of California ballot
initiatives in November 2005, decided to forgo any public support of
the proposals of her husband.
On 3 February 2008, Shriver
endorses Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination
in 2008. The approval came at a rally at UCLA with her cousin Caroline
Kennedy, Oprah Winfrey, Stevie Wonder and the candidate's wife,
Michelle Obama. Governor Schwarzenegger has already endorsed Sen. John
McCain for the Republican presidential nomination a few days earlier,
on 31 January 2008.
As First Lady, Maria Shriver has taken the
helm of the Conference on Women. The Women's Conference (also known as
the California Governor and First Lady's Conference on Women) is a
nonprofit, nonpartisan organization and annual forum for women. The
first event focused on women began in 1986 as a California government
initiative for working professionals and business owners. Since 2004,
the Conference of Women has been under the leadership of California
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and first lady Maria Shriver and success
has become an "event".
Maria Shriver, was filmed by
paparazzi while he was allegedly violating the law by talking
on her cell phone while driving.
If this were not bad enough, they
took back in July, which is quite clear in the second photo. It seems
that Mary has chosen to violate the neglect cell phone use while
driving normally the law, even though her husband Arnold supported the
bill and became law last year.
Arnold seems to be not very
happy about it because tweeted the following message of TMZ Harvey
Levin, "Thank you for bringing my attention to their violations, @
harveylevintmz.'s Going to be swift action."

The past year has been a good, though rather eclectic, year for apologies. All the usuals are in there: politicians, sports personalities, religious leaders and, of course, the odd errant husband.
