Cartography and cartographic maps have become more sophisticated.
Details of any geographical location can be found in maps of places. Details such as vegetation, geographical location, soil structure, latitude and longitude can be found by studying maps. The science and art of making maps is termed as cartography. Maps are usually created to depict geographical, political, and some particular aspects of any region.
The system used by cartographers is called projection. It is used to present three-dimensional data of the Earth in a two dimensional way. With advance in field of information technology, cartography and cartographic maps have become more sophisticated.
GPS is a navigation system based on a network of 24 satellites. These satellites are placed into orbit by the US Department of Defense. GPS was designed with intention of military application. However, the US government opened this system for civilian use. GPS map source can be used freely from any part of the world. Garmin Cartography works 24X7 and it is not affected by Earth’s weather conditions. It is possible to access GPS from any part of the world.
GPS is highly advanced system and works with GPS receivers to pin point the exact location of a user’s position.

GPS marine charts are used in marine navigation. The maps used in chartplotters are called marine charts. There are two different types of marine charts; vector charts and raster charts. Different companies prepare marine charts. Different marine charts cover different oceans and water bodies.
