Marion Jones Steroids
67The Marion Jones Steroid Issue
In the world of track and field, Marion Jones seems to be
undefeatable. She was labeled the fastest women on earth and could
outrun just about any female athlete. She was also the first female
that won 5 gold medals in the Olympic games. But all these glory
and fame came crashing down when the Marion Jones steroids story
surfaced.
Marion Jones was stripped of all her 5 gold medals that she won in
the Sydney Olympic games because she was found guilty of using
anabolic steroids. The use of anabolic steroids in competition is
against the law and consider as cheating.
The Marion Jones steroids story actually started way before the
Sydney Olympics. She was once banned from the athletic sport
for four years because she did not turn up for a random drug
test. It appeared that the letter notifying the test did not reach her.
She came back from the ban after her lawyer that her mom hired fought
for her reinstatement. Then in the year 2000, she made a huge impact in
the Sydney Olympic games by bagging three gold medals and two bronze
medals. She won gold for the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and the
1600-meter relay. She got the bronze medal for the long jump event and the
400-meter relay event. But in the 2004 Olympic games, she performed
really poorly and not even qualifying for the 100 meter-dash event
and withdrew from 200-meter dash event.
Then, in 2007, she was found guilty for using designer steroid
called "the clear". The Marion Jones steroids story will come to
the end on January 11, 2008 when she will be sentenced to jail for
5 years. Not only that, she have to return the prize money won
during the Olympics amount to 700, 000 USD and the medals. She is
also forfeited the races that she participated since September 1,
2000. Not only that, she have to return all medals.
Marion Jones steroids story teaches all of us a very good lesson.
You can never get away as a cheat. You might appear a champion
today by cheating but in years to come, you might fall down in
shame and worth nothing.

I just read the story and I personally don't like the laws concerning steriods. Is it not their bodies, who cares! We love Marion Jones in our household and still believe in our hearts that she is a champion. Hands down, and shame on her husband his loss. WE LOVE YOU MARION KEEP YOUR HEAD UP YOU WILL BE HOME SOON
I agree. I believe that steroid laws in this country are over the top. Maybe they do need to be regulated to keep them safe in regards to consistant quality, but making them outright illegal is BS.
I do not believe that steroid use has made marion less of an athlete, or a human bean, because it takes supreme detication anddrive to use steroids effectively for the most possible gain without the side effects.
Marion Jones is a supreme athlete; it took a large amount of discipline and training to win those medals. Steroids are not magic; you could take them for the rest of your life and still not win a gold medal.
