A Step by Step Guide to Marketing, Value and Influence
62An Exercise for Developing Your Unique Selling Proposition
Understanding Marketing (With or Without the 'Attraction' Part)
I’m not going to mention the term "Unique Selling Proposition," but save that term (and that thought i.e. What is your unique selling proposition as a framed reference for which to consider the information presented in this article), and the question,
How does having a defined Unique Selling Proposition fit into and/or benefit being successful in this BIG PICTURE view of Marketing, Value and Influence?
Instead, let's first begin with "working" definitions of marketing (in fact let’s even throw away the term attraction for a moment and just focus on marketing.
The Great Perry Marshall says…
I've defined marketing as 'helping people who need each other find each other' and that is best accomplished by clearly and effectively communicating who you are, which of course requires that you know who you are in the first place.
If you know that, and communicate it effectively, you attract not just the right customers, but the right employees, vendors, partners and investors. The consistency and believability of your message is contagious.
Here is a working definition of attraction marketing
Attraction marketing is effective when using this definition as a guide: "Attraction marketing is the art and science of empowering, communicating and developing a relationship with another human being based on their needs and not yours."

Hi Eric,
Very helpful information as always. Thanks for sharing about our USP. One question. Is it OK to have more than one or does that become too complicated?
Thanks again for all your help.
Michelle Moseley
Eric,
I think you have answered a question (with Perry Marshall's help)that people always have trouble with: What the heck is marketing? It doesn't seem so intimidating anymore when you state that it's merely "helping the people who need you, to find you". I feel more focused already!
As always, Eric, tons of value - I like having comments for each section - it keeps things much more focused an easier to retain.
Michelle, my thoughts on USP are this: what is unique about you, your values, and the way you approach things is consistent. So in that sense, you only have one USP. However, when dealing with different groupings within your target market, you might highlight certain areas of your USP more than others.
For example, the fact that I'm a life long teacher is part of my USP no matter what - but when I'm dealing with coaching coaches, it's more about the way you help someone find their own answers to something - so my experience in that is highlighted. If I'm speaking to someone who wants guidance at Renegade Professional, its the teaching in general they care about - my ability to break down information in a way they can understand.
That's what Eric excels at as well. This article is a great example - he has the ability to break it down into small pieces so that the reader isn't overwhelmed with a bunch of techno-jargon. Eric is "user-friendly." lol
Hey Eric:
Once again, you've taken a complex subject and broken it down into pieces that we can easily digest - thank you!
USP - I think my own USP will always be a work in progress. As I continue to learn more (from givers, like yourself) - I hope my value to others will steadily increase.
I appreciate you.
Sincerely / Peter A.
Love your video Eric. So many people struggle with the 'USP' and even when you've got clear on it sometimes it's easy to lose sight of it! I'm sure students with Renegade Professional will greatly benefit from your resources and seeing your vision of where they can go with this.
"Attraction marketing is the art and science of empowering, communicating and developing a relationship with another human being based on their needs and not yours."
"Attraction Marketing" is a term that is used a lot these days in many internet, network and affiliate marketing systems. I have yet to see anyone define the term as simply and succinctly as you have done here Eric. Your definition alone can become the core nugget of an entire training program on the benefits of giving before you get.

How long does it take to know who you are, Eric?
[Silly or deep: hmmmmm]
"their needs, not yours"- Reminds me of the book, The Go-Giver.
Hi Eric! Thanks for this informative message. Hope that we can exchange thoughts about marketing, fitness and how to earn phenomenal income. Hope to hear from you.

Big Picture - Never Give Up and You Will Succeed
Understanding How Marketing Works In Context of "The Bigger Picture" of Internet Marketing Success (No Matter What Your Business Is)
The Big Picture Standpoint is…
Knowledge of Target Market:
Identifying the specific value you can offer to the specific group of people who need it so it addresses a need and solves a problem for them.
+Plus+
YOU:
Firm grasp on who you
are and what you enjoy doing, and the uniqueness that only you can bring to your customers, business partners, prospects, leads, joint venture collaborations - whatever
+Plus+
Learning the Technical Skill Set to Put the Internet Components Together:
Learning the online tools and putting the online components together (gaining the skill set you're going to learn at Renegade Professional and in particular your first 90-120 days) so you're comfortable with them.
This makes the “being yourself” part a lot easier.

Personal and Monetary Success:
Mike Klingler says,
“A balance of training + consistent action = predictable and measurable success over time.”

Great hub Eric! I love this section in particular because it is so key and yet many people skip right over it. Identifying your target market or niche, and really getting inside their heads is the first part of the process. Then determining how you can help your target market solve their problems, and how you are uniquely positioned to do that, is the next step. Once you've done that, you have the foundation you need. The next step is to learn the attraction marketing tools and techniques to get your message out to your target market.
Many thanks for sharing!
Cindy
"A firm grasp on who you are".
That is such a powerful statement and not one that often comes to the forefront in a Marketing Training article. The fact that you included it is crucial to why this hub will be so useful for so many. People's trust in their own unique personality, strenghts and interests as something that has value to others is often difficult. But here you are saying that "who you are" is the basis of your USP and a core factor in how you market yourself or anything else. It's a stong message that hopefully will allow people to look at something and trust in the uniquenss that they see.
Combining the above with an really deep understanding of what a target market is and how to reach that market, is exactly as you've said..the core on internet marketing success.

Attraction Marketing Tip on What It Means to Provide Value
You've Heard It Before, "What Value Do You Offer?"
The value you offer is your business. So it's pretty darn important you know what you have to offer.
The BIG Question:
What value do you offer?
Value, in the attraction model, is your personality + "the conversation” you invoke or inspire and continually come back to, or the crowd you gather ‘round yourself, which is about the topics, and in alignment with what you enjoy (that’s your business) and doing so using the proper tools and web locations to set it all up (the mechanics of it all).
You have to take time to get familiar with these tools and web locations. You have to give yourself time to mature into these things. Depending on your level of experience, and the challenges you face assimilating to these technical aspects, it can take months.
Comments
Providing value is a simple concept, yet hard for many. And, it's so easy to do: you learn something, then you teach it. We have been programed to assume we should get before we give. That's one of the hardest things, as a coach, that I have trouble getting across to Internet Marketing students. But once they start providing value without expecting to receive, success is theirs. And yes, it takes time but it's worth the effort!
So much value here - thank you.
But How Does this Happen, Really? How Does It Work that I Offer Value?
When you’re just getting started this value thing is not tangible, it’s only an idea, or a buzz word – I know how that feels.
Stop to think for a moment: Are you seeing why it's so important to have a unique selling proposition that is in alignment with who you are; the unique YOU that only YOU can be?
So this next list of points are various ways that you can leverage the value that you offer.
1. Leveraging the News – Alignment with a Movement
- i.e. Twitter for everyone, Renegade Professional for me, or the various somethings in your field of expertise.
2. Providing constant and consistent value to your audience and growing that audience outward.
- i.e. take little opportunities to gain traction (like water freezing into ice in a crack in the road and by spring time that pothole is engulfing the whole front end of your car.
3. Choosing a couple locations (not spread out all over the place) to set up your marketing. Choose your favorites and play to your strengths.
- i.e. it was easier for me to write my thoughts
than get in front the camera so I focused Hubpages and Squidoo. Video came
later.
4. Setting up a centralized main location where you always bring people to build, maintain and add to the value relationship (this is also where you harvest your leads and build relationships)
- i.e. capture form, some way to collect leads. At
centralized hub (blog), must play on a theme to brand yourself as an expert in
that area.
5. When you collect a lead, you give something away in exchange, and if it’s not something physical (i.e. like a download, or free give-away, it's the promise that you communicate, and can deliver upon)
- You can also do this with other people’s stuff. i.e. play up the fact that when people create a Renegade University account they begin receiving Mike Klingler's 7 Lessons to Attract Prospects to You.
6. OPTIONAL, but smart – you make money on your leads by getting to know (or already knowing) your leads. Stick with a small menu of similarly related monetization products that are congruent with your message.
- When people make a low ticket purchase from you, and the transaction is successful, and you add-on your personal upsell, which is the value of YOU, you gain HUGE trust, and that could, literally, pay, and/or earn you the right to introduce a bigger ticket offer or your business opportunity to them.

Really identified with this section, Eric. You put it all in a nutshell and the smart online marketer follows these steps if success is their goal. It serves as a great point of reference to identify whether one is really on the right track or not.
I have found this info so valuable. It's a great article to let people understand how important a USP is. If you really want to help others and you know who you are you can easily relate to others just like you. It makes it so much easier.

foundational stuff for free.
Let's Make Some Money
Money is made when you can combine all the above things.
- Notice that not once did I mention anything about “the business.” Not everyone feels the same, but I feel you earn the right to present your primary business after you give. You have to give to earn a take. That’s the Law of the Universe.
- Money is also made when you develop a skill and offer those skills to others.
- Money is made when you do these things consistently over time, generally not right away.
- Although, when you align with a movement, and identify a gap or need in that movement, you can generate substantial monetary growth. What are the “movements” in your area of interest?
Ok, so what does this actually look like on the internet?
This is typical of what you would do, not necessarily in this order:
- You’ve made a Youtube video.
- You’ve written your message from your Youtube video into a Squidoo Lens
- You’ve embedded the Youtube video into your Squidoo Lens
- You’ve written a related article at your Blog or Website i.e. Central Hub
- You’ve optimized each of the aforementioned with proper keyword research
- From your blog or website, or in some cases from your actual secondary content, you link to a capture page where people can receive your email updates.
- You continue to send valuable information. You connect on a more personal basis. This can be done by calling your leads. In some cases, they will call you.
- You introduce your products, services and
business.
Let's get even more familiar with this process.
- Attract prospects to your hub from secondary social media locations by giving value or being "found" attractive on the front end, or even more simply, people begin to find your hub first without having to create a lot of secondary content.
- Engage these visitors with lots of value. Demonstrate that you've built an audience, or if you don’t have an audience, demonstrate that you understand how to engage in "the conversations."
- Or you can create these conversations yourself. (That’s what this is all about – NETWORKING). This will get you acknowledgment, and when you're acknowledged, you're beginning to build your reputation or "brand"

It is true that there are many that provide great internet marketing training for free, like you and Mike Klingler. You just have to look. Then pick a solid training program like Renegade Professional to pull it all together and earn the right to introduce your business opportunity and attract prospects to it.
Validation
The Fastest Way to Success is to Be Validated, But How...?
Question. What is going to validate you as someone who can really help?
Answer. Deep value.
What is deep value?
Deep value is making this realization … if you're not solving people's problems or giving them what THEY want, you're not in business. This is why you see people who've been at this internet attraction marketing thing for so long, haven't gotten any results.
You have to figure out:
1). What you love i.e. what you want your business to be, and
2) How you can make that your business – in this case, the term "business" is giving people what they want, and at the same time, being really passionate about giving that people - this is how you become an expert.
And to be successful in anything, you have to nothing short of an expert.
Use Renegade Professional to help learn how to create value and build your system so people can find you.
Without your own unique system (your own "system of giving value" that is), you won't stand out from the crowd or make money with your own business.
So…your number one priority is giving value to the people you know need it.
If you do this, people will at least - at least – “hear you out” about your (network marketing) business.
BOTTOM LINE:
Decide what value you're willing to give – the promise you can make to yourself, and the others that are inspired to join your “conversation” – then set up the BASIC components FIRST.
This comes BEFORE you start asking yourself or saying aloud:
- How do I make an additional 500-1000 per month?
- How do I make 10K per month?
- How do I sell 5 ebooks per week?
- How do I get 10-15 new reps in my business per month?
- How do I find a system that does these things for me?
It’s that mindset that keeps you focused on the wrong things.
The only thing that ends up happening when you ask those kinds of questions is you become a consumer – you end up on the other side of transaction than what you want to be.
I see this all the time, people purchase so many resources when all they need to do is use what’s within Renegade Professional for $49 per month, and some of the tools that go with it i.e. SBI, WordPress, Renegade Network Marketer, whatever is needed for you to be the unique YOU that you're trying to be.
When you feel you have these things down, and you want to specialize then you can go outside of Renegade Professional for other resources.

Eric I truely love the points that you have touched on in this hug. People are set to believe that every one else knows more than they do and will not step out of the box and comfort zone to get started.
Just begin - don't be perfect - learn as you go. As the content gets out on web and you begin to bulit a presense and people start seeing you - begin to start learning more about you and following what your doing -
Standing out in the crowd is what makes people back up - fear. In standing out and being seen, branding begins.
My hardest thing to do was getting the content to get out there - I did not know what I wanted to focus on. Once I found what I loved doing - it flows.
Hand shake to you
Hi Eric,
I especially like this portion of your hub, although you touch so many important facts and issues in all the others, as well. But this one is special.
From the time we are children to the time we become adults we are all looking for some form of validation. 'The smart one, the strong one,the pretty one etc.' and suddenly we realize that now we must take Responsibility for our own lives and validate ourselves to become what we want to become, which is success and happiness.
Like you said though, the first thing people think of as validation is the amount of money one possesses or the amount of money they will make. Not the amount of self one can give. It is truly a new mindset many, giving of self first and being of service to others.
In the Renegade Professional and all of the Renegade System, Mike and Ann continually enforce "being of service to others" is key and the monetary value, whatever it is that you choose to achieve, will come two fold. "As you give, so shall you receive."
The old model of MLM steps on this notion over and over again, and many people that are working in these types of systems are only creating the "new corporate America."
Renegade Professional encourages self thought, self growth and selflessness. Validation is a guarantee...
By the way I just love the video that you have here. If only we would all set out in the world to "make a difference" in someones life the way he does.
Eric,
I have comments I can make throughout this very thorough and useful hub, but I had to start here because I just love the Validation Video. What an amazing world we would have if every person spent even one minute per day validating another is totally non-selfish and loving manner. Amazing!!
My USP for much of my life has been about giving, listening and helping others move in a more positive direction in their own lives. I have taken this manner of being in the world and transformed it into my USP for all of what I write, teach, coach and create. I have known you long enough to know that you do the same and that is so very evident in this hubpage. Now I'll go and comment on some other sections.

Passion
Without Passion and a Significant Emotional Reason, It's Difficult to Succeed
One Last Thing
If what you do with the best hours of your day is not also the thing you’re passionate about, stop right now! Stop right now and confront the cold hard facts for what they are:
- No amount of effective training, time management skills, productivity tips and tricks or goal setting know-how will replace the critical missing ingredient of your life: passion. If it’s not passion then it has to be a Significant Emotional Reason.
Recipe for 90-120 Day Success:
- Set up of the components – that's what your first 90 days should be all about. Force yourself to set up the basics. That's where an internet business training can really benefit you.
- Decide what you're going to build upon. What is your topic? What are your keywords, or at the very least, what will be the people you want to attract type into the Google search bar? If you’re not grounded in this, you'll waste time, and have to back track like I did.
NOTE – Backtracking isn’t all that bad. It may not be efficient, but it does force you to narrow down to the truth; forces you to whittle down what you’re really doing on the internet and where you belong. There are some redeeming qualities in going through a process like that.
- Start creating content (start engaging the conversations) and widen the reach of the basic components.
- Be realistic and mature. When I was 16, my dad bought me a 1977 $400 Caprice Classic, not a new sports car.
Meet Eric Walker - Renegade Professional Guide and Coach
My name is Eric Walker. I am a successful independent marketer, and educational leader who specializes in guiding newbies (although I like to call them "smart beginners") and intermediate marketers through the attraction marketing training curriculum at Renegade Professional.
#1)You are brand new to attraction marketing (doesn't matter what your business is) and Renegade Professional.
#2)You are a Renegade Professional who isn't new but you seek clarity and direction. Somewhere along the way you got overwhelmed, or you didn't apply yourself, or you skipped all over the Professional training but never really focused in on what you were supposed to be doing, or you just know that you will need a coach or guide to help you along.
#3)You are a Renegade Professional, and you want to be a super guide, or a coach. You have your own own list, and you want to participate in furthering your own success while helping others with their Renegade Professional training (and attraction marketing in general)
In particular, network marketers new to the internet attraction marketing model pay me to help them do what I've already done. Therefore, I serve the internet network marketing industry as a coach, mentor and consultant.
Over the past year, I have become quite entrenched in the Renegade Professional community, both as a "super guide" and as a person who used Renegade Professional to "breakthrough" as a successful internet marketer.
You can too, but often a guide is needed. That's where I can help you. As a student and advocate of attraction marketing, I have found internet marketing success because I focused on bringing my skills of teaching, leading and encouragement to guide others online.
I can help you bring out your skills, passions and unique strengths and be "attractive."
Or if you are interested in learning more about Renegade University and Renegade Professional, find this bonus that I am offering to anyone who signs up with me at Renegade Professional Bonus.

Hey Everyone,
You will notice that I've included a comment area after each section of this step by step guide to marketing, value and influence, and the reason I did that was because this is a long hub.
It's best to read it in small chunks, and I'd appreciate your thoughts on SPECIFIC aspects rather than the article as a whole.
A lot to chew on here, take it in small bites. Best to you and your process of learning marketing, creating value and obtaining influence.
