Marvel Comics Movies-Daredevil
63Daredevil
Daredevil first appeared in Daredevil #1, April 1964.
He was created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett with a little help from Jack Kirby.
DD was technically the first hero with a disability.
The original Doctor Mid-Nite showed up WAY before Daredevil (1941), But Doc could see in total darkness as opposed to DD being blind all the time.
And "The Man Without Fear" is a superhero ladies man. Where most heroes struggle with one relationship, DD has dated Karen Page, Black Widow, Elektra and Typhoid Mary among others. In true comic book fashion though, most of his love interests wind up killed, maimed or traumatized.
Starting out in 64, Daredevil really didn't hit his stride till the book was taken over by Gene Colan in 1966. And he didn't become the modern day DD until Frank Miller started in 1979.
Of course with Miller came ninjas, deaths and darkness.
Daredevil (2003)
In 2003 Daredevil became a movie.
The film starred Ben Affleck as Daredevil, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Colin Farrell as Bullseye and Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin.
It was written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson.
The film got mixed reviews from critics and had a worldwide take of just over $179 million.
I didn't see the movie in the theater, my first viewing was the 2004 DVD director's cut which everyone has told me was way better than the theatrical release.
I liked the movie, it wasn't fantastic, but at least the cut I saw was good.
And the movie did well enough to spin off Elektra into a feature film.
Daredevil Reboot?
Yes rumors are floating around about a Daredevil "reboot".
I doubt very much we'll be seeing Ben Affleck in the costume again as in 2009 he said “No, I would not do another, I was cured of that.”
Of course people do change their minds.
But if he doesn't, action star Jason Statham has expressed interest in Daredevil. A casting choice that Frank Miller seconded.
And now it seems that a reboot may be seriously being considered.
Tom Rothman, the co-chairman of Fox said in an interview, when asked about the DD reboot,
"Yes, but soon? I don't know. But, we are going to try to reboot."
Besides Jason Statham, evidently a few other people have been approached about it.
Namely.....
Vin Diesel (also talked about for Dr.Doom in the FF reboot and Sub-Mariner)
Matt Damon
Michael C. Hall
