Unique Characteristics of the American Mastiff
The American Mastiff is a very unique dog, and well beloved by their owners. Mastiffs are very powerful, massive dogs, and one of the largest dog breeds. The ears sit high on their heads and are rounded in shape. Their eyes are an amber color and are preferred to be dark. The American Mastiff is the product of an outcrossing, in the early development of the breed, between the English Mastiff and the Anatolian Mastiff. This also produced a drier mouth than many of the other Mastiff breeds because their lower lip line is tighter and more defined. The selective breeding that followed kept this trait in this breed of Mastiff dog.
The American Mastiff has a very strong neck which is slightly arched, with a black nose and a scissored bite. The tail is long and thick.
The American Mastiff dogs develop in a variety of colors including fawn, brindle and even apricot. Most puppies are born dark in color and tend to lighten up as they get older. Though you would not think so at first glance, the American Mastiff is very good with children and makes a great family dog. The females range from 140-180 pounds. Even though American Mastiff dogs are of the largest breeds, they don't tend to be plagued by many of the health problems that are common in other larger breeds. In fact, they are generally healthy and happy dogs. And, contrary to some other large breeds, this breed of Mastiff dog will get along perfectly well in an apartment as long as they are exercised daily. This can be a daily walk or short run. The American Mastiff generally lives 10 to 12 years.
Their grooming is easy due to their short-haired and smooth coat. They can easily be shampooed and shined by drying them after bathing, then brushing their coat with a brush with firm bristles. This dog breed is not for everyone, but for the right owner or family, they are loving, and loveable companions, which can be surprisingly docile and gentle.
Solving Behavior Problems in Your English Mastiff Dog
English Mastiff dogs are not mean dogs; however, they are huge and imposing. The following are suggestions to solving some behavioral problems in Mastiffs.
Aggression
Aggression can be a problem with English Mastiff. Instead of retreating when your dog shoves you, push him back, invading his space. Your actions will teach your dog that you are in control. Always reward good behavior. Spaying or neutering can also reduce aggressive behavior.
Excessive Barking
If your English Mastiff dog has a problem with excessive barking you need to determine why because this is not a common problem in Mastiff dogs. Be sure that you spend plenty of time with your with your dog and that he has toys and play time.
To deter your dog from barking you can wrap you hand around his muzzle and say “Quiet” or “No Barking.” The idea is that the noise with startle your dog and so he stops barking.
Chewing
Providing appropriate chew toys while he young is very helpful. Keep valuable items out of reach of your Mastiff and be sure to rotate the chew toys so your dog won’t get bored.
If you see your English Mastiff chewing on something he shouldn’t, take the object away and replace it with an acceptable toy to chew on. Praise him for chewing on the appropriate item.
Jumping Up
Most people view their pet jumping up as a welcome. Jumping up is a sign of dominant behavior and should be discouraged, especially in giant breeds such as Mastiffs.
Shyness
A common problem among Mastiffs is shyness. Socialization is one of the most critical aspects of owning a Mastiff. Allow your dog to meet people in different places. You can help him get used to other dogs and pets by regularly walking him at a dog park.
These are a few solutions to some of the behavioral problems you can encounter with your English Mastiff dog. If you have severe behavior problems with your dog you might want to get the advice of his veterinarian or see a specialist.

Finding Mastiff Kennels for Your Dog
Finding a good kennel for your Mastiff dog can be a little tricky. You want to be able to find a kennel that has a staff that is experienced in handling Mastiffs. They are not your ordinary pet. You will find that each kennel has different capacities. You can expect that your dog may experience separation anxiety and stress from all the new faces. Being in a kennel can be a very difficult experience for your Mastiff. Choose your kennel carefully to ensure your Mastiff comes out of the boarding experience as unscathed as possible.
Learn More About Mastiff Kennels Here
Since Mastiffs are known for their guarding skills they will continue to guard their new space at the kennel. Understand that this may be rather stressful for your pet. Your Mastiff will suddenly be in contact with strange people and dogs during his stay. When you visit a kennel, check to see that it is clean. Does it look clean and comfortable? Ask them if you Mastiff will have outdoor access during the day. Ask about their feeding schedule as well. The next area of discussion should be about the staff at the kennel. While it isn't always possible to have a full staff of experts, the staff should all at least love dogs and have some general knowledge and experience of dogs.
If you are worried about leaving your Mastiff dog at a kennel because he has never been to one before, then try leaving him there for a day while you are still in town. Once you find a kennel you really like then be sure to keep using it so you dog will get used to the kennel environment. When searching for a Mastiff kennel don't cheat your pet. Finding a kennel that understands Mastiffs is worth the time and energy you give to see that your dog will be properly cared for.

I spend a great amount of time caring for their various needs; we have several cats and dogs. I admit they consume a great deal of my day; I spend time bathing and grooming, feeding and supplying them with medications. They are my family members. I am passionate about providing them with the most caring environment possible. Dog Pain Relief Unfortunately, several of our pets are growing older, and I am becoming very concerned about their quality of life. We’re already seeing the signs that they are aging; one cat has inoperable cancer, and one of my dogs is a diabetic. Caring for animals with these conditions can be absolutely heart-breaking. Even though I know my pets won’t live forever, I am still determined that they will have the best life possible. Because of my commitment, I have to be vigilant about ensuring they are in good health. Lately I have become incredibly interested in animal chiropractic services. I am equally passionate about dog pain relief, after I discovered that several of my animals have pet arthritis. I discovered Veterinarian Ava Frick’s products by accident, when I saw her on my local news station. I became intrigued after I found out that Ava is also interested in innovative animal therapies; some of these treatments include pet underwater treadmills and pet chiropractic services. Because I had read about these innovative pet therapies, I decided to visit her website. On her website I learned about the nutritional products she recommends; she believes they ensure good feline and canine health. All kinds of maladies are targeted by these products, including canine paralysis, pet pain relief, and animal joint pain. Because I was impressed by Ava Frick’s credentials and knowledge of cutting-edge therapies, I decided to give them a try. Dog Anxiety At first I was still skeptical about these nutritional supplements, so I only purchased a few products. When I discovered that my cats and dogs were responding well to the new treatments, I became more experimental about my product choices. I bought several products for my dachshund, who was recently diagnosed with pet paralysis. I was absolutely astounded when I discovered that the products recommended by Ava Frick offered pet pain relief and helped my dog with her canine paralysis. The best part is that the supplements were easy to administer, and didn’t create another huge, time-consuming task for me. I had discovered how easy it could be to actively encourage my pet’s wellness. I have now become devoted to Ava Frick’s practice. I deeply encourage pet owners to consider her range of recommended, quality nutritional supplements. I am positive that through my efforts, and these new products, I am providing a better quality life for my pets. It is widely known that as they grow older, their bodies need additional vitamin and mineral support that just isn’t part of their diet, even premium brand pet food. Now my pets are living at the potential they deserve due to these quality supplements. Pet Paralysis

Ozone is active oxygen which naturally forms an area of the planet atmosphere, protecting us from harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. However, ozone can also make a useful sanitizer for a hot tub. It is very popular to use in spas as it also reduces the need for various other chemicals like Bromine. However, it does not eliminate the need for these chemicals entirely. One of the advantages of having such a piece of equipment is that you can save money. This is similar to the purpose that a hydrofloss has (helping to save the on the cost over dental bills through prevention). Because it reduces the amount of chemical sanitizers that the spa requires, it means that you won’t have to buy so many expensive chemicals frequently. In fact, studies have shown that the chemical consumption can be reduced by as much as thirty-five per cent. They also require very little electricity to run, making the drain on your electricity bill virtually negligible. An ozonator is also harmless to animals and people at least if used correctly. However, it also kills viruses which are in the water, making your bathing experience healthier and safer. The question I want to ask is, can it help with gum disease? It also has great advantages over chlorine which is traditionally used in swimming pools and spas. In fact, it purifiers the water up to three thousand times faster than the traditional chlorine method. In addition to this, the other advantages are that it has no unpleasant odor and does not irritate the eyes of skin and when it is in large quantities. However, you should never breathe it in directly is this can be dangerous You will still need to have a hot tub filter but there will be less stress on this particular component if you have a decent ozonator to compensate. However, this does not have to be the case. There is nothing wrong with going to get your teeth cleaned every three months. What you do at home is far more important, however. The reason why is because the plaque that houses the harmful bacteria builds up every day. Therefore, to effectively stop the progression of gum disease, you must disrupt this plaque every day. The longer the plaque is left intact, the more of the ‘bad’ or anaerobic bacteria will grow. The more they grow – the more toxic waste products they dump onto your teeth and gums. These waste products can contribute to both cavities and gum disease. If brushing and flossing alone were effective then it stands to reason that up to 80% of the population would NOT have some form of gum disease. Therefore, it also stands to reason that you need more than just brushing, flossing and using a mouth rinse to prevent the progression of this disease to more serious forms. The anaerobic bacteria that cause these problems do not like oxygen – therefore use an oxygenated mouthwash. The products of therabreath may be helpful here. The anaerobic bacteria do like an acidic mouth – as is created by eating acidic foods and not taking steps to adjust your mouth pH afterwards. A pH balanced mouthwash will help with this as will chewing xylitol gum. There are many additional things you can do to aid your dental health, such as oramd. Your dentist is correct, many much more serious disease have been linked to periodontal disease. Even ancient civilizations recognized that the health of the mouth reflected the health of the body! Most people want to look at a horse’s teeth before buying him.You can stop the progression of this disease by taking the right actions and by educating yourself about what else you can do besides regular brushing and flossing. At the early stages you can have a very, very good chance of preventing things from progressing to a more advanced stage. Educate yourself and you can have health gums and teeth for a lifetime!
