What Is PPV Traffic, Pay Per View
PPV stands for pay per view. PPV advertising, also known as contextual advertising or cost per view advertising, is when you pay a certain amount for every time someone views your webpage. Many people know pay per click but only a handful seem to know about PPV and even less know how to do it successfully. How it works is when someone is visiting a sponsor site that you are advertising on, your website will come up in the form of a pop up window. This is much more in your face then a simple banner that may or may not get a click. It may seem very aggressive and intrusive, because it is, but it works pretty well. The best part is you can get some really cheap traffic as opposed to the ever rising rates of AdWords, Microsoft and Yahoo to name a few. You can literally get visits for as little as 1 cent per view. Now the key as with any type of advertising is making sure your traffic is targeted to your theme or niche. If you are advertising a fitness product on a website about baking deserts you will probably just be throwing money away. At the same time if you advertise a fitness product on a page about losing weight you have a much better chance of getting visitors that are interested in your product. This is of course a very broad example but you get the idea.
So in a nutshell, PPV advertising stands for pay per view. This means you pay not for someone clicking on an ad but for someone actually setting their eyes on your webpage.
What Is PPC Pay Per Click
PPC or Pay Per Click is when you bid on an amount you are willing to pay for someone to click on your advertisement. If someone clicks on your ad then you will be charged accordingly. There have been tons of books written on the subject and it is one of the most well known tools of Internet marketers everywhere. Depending on your niche PPC can be a very expensive proposition and done wrong can lose you a ton of money fast.
PPC is one of those things you either love or hate. I have heard people say the only real way to make money online is through PPC. I have also heard the exact opposite from people who say they tried it, lost money and will NEVER do it again. Can't really remember anyone being neutral towards it though, generally speaking it is a love, hate thing. Bottom line is you can be successful with or without it as I have seen people do both. It's just something you will need to decide for yourself. At some point though, almost every Internet marketer will dive in to the PPC pool.
The rules of PPC change pretty regularly as well as far as what is acceptable, ad costs, page scores and where you are allowed to send traffic. Other then the money thing, PPC can be a very confusing form of advertising. It can bring you tons of taffic or tons of debt. PPC can be your devil or angel, it all depends on if you have a good formula that works.
PPV Traffic vs. PPC Traffic, Which Is Best
The first thing to remember is when talking about traffic you need to have a goal. Do you want that traffic to make a sale for you or do you want them to opt in to a list are 2 examples. You need to know your goal before setting up a campaign weather it be PPV or PPC. Once you know your goal then it's all about conversion. Does your traffic do what you want it to do. Also was it cost effective, did you get the most bang for your buck. Lets look at both options and see what we get.
Targeted traffic is key in any business. You can have tons of cheap traffic but if it's not targeted to your specific webpage it is useless. You may as well throw your money out the window of a moving car. There are many people that will tell you the best targeted traffic will come from PPC advertising and to a certain extent this is true. You will need your ads to revolve around specific keywords and an ad that will actually catch a persons interest. If that person clicks your ad then we have to assume to a certain extent they were interested in what you had to say.
The problem with PPC is many keywords can be VERY expensive to bid on and your ad could wind up getting knocked to the second page or further. To really benefit you need to be the top dog or at least in the top few. If you do not stay on top of your campaign you can burn through money very quickly with little or no return to show for it. I have met many people that have lost a lot of money very quickly with PPC. The other thing to remember is now you need to make short yet eye catching ads. This may seem easy but it's a lot harder then it looks. You could have the best ad placement with the cheapest cost per click but if your ad is bad, you will have no clicks.
Now with PPV advertising there are some that say it is not as targeted. This really is not true as long as you do the proper research and know where to look. PPV traffic can be just as targeted if not more if done right.
Another knock on PPV is that it is intrusive, some people really hate pop ups and will not respond to your website jumping in front of them. Again this may be true but if you have a good webpage it has a much better chance of catching someones eye then a 3 line text ad. Truth is most people will still check out your page to see what it's all about. The in your face advertising is actually a very good thing.
One of the biggest advantages is price. You can literally get visitors for 1 penny per visitor. Think about how nice it would be to get 1000 targeted visitors, direct to your webpage for $10.00. The Bottom line is you are never going to see 1 penny keywords if your doing PPC.

Great comment Tim but you still need a strategy that work as mentioned above. If you go in blind, just like PPC you can lose your shirt.
