Getting Down the Salt Water Flush with the Master Cleanse

OK, as I wrote last night I started the Lemon Master Cleanse this AM, and it is official the absolute worst part of this cleanse is the salt water flush. This flush is known by many names:  an internal cleanse, natural colon cleansing, salt water cleanse, intestinal cleansing, or colon cleanse just to name a few.

The salt water flush recipe is 32oz of water with 2 teaspoons of uniodized sea salt. The whole process of the Master Cleanse (also known as the Lemon Master Cleanse, detox, full body detox, or the Maple Syrup Cleanse) includes you not eating any solid food for the duration, and only drinking the mix for the Master Cleanse and a smooth move tea at night.  The final step and one of the most important is the salt water flush in the morning.  This process is 100% natural, and how it works is that the salt weighs down the water to push everything through your system to give you a total cleanse...

So what is the problem? Getting it down! To get the salt water past your tongue to your intestines, is  absolutely horrible, and by far the worst part of the cleanse. The Lemonade mixture is surprisingly good and filling. Who would have thought that Maple Syrup, Cayenne Pepper, and Lemons would go well together?

In all seriousness, it is now 12:27pm and the last time I had anything to eat was for dinner last night and I am not the least bit hungry. I am drinking the lemonade and it is going surprisingly well. I know I am just starting but so far so good! If I find any tips on the salt water flush I will post them immediately, right now all I can say is if you have the determination to do the Master Cleanse be it for 10 or 40 days then you have the will power to get down 32 oz of salt water!

You may read in places that there is no reason to detox your body, but if you look at the ingredients of what we eat and have eaten for many years, you will definitely see why I felt this was a good thing!  Most of what we "eat" now has little to no nutritional value and the need to clean it out of our system gets greater as time goes on.  The salt water flush as part of the colon cleanse is imperative to receive the best results from the Master Cleanse and has even been used in our house when we eat something that disagrees with us or gives us a stomach ache.  It just pushes everything through the system!

The comments are for any and all suggestions!  I hope to have a suggestion quickly as making it through without a tip will be ROUGH!

Update, I am writing another blog reguarding the Flush in more detail, but wanted to put on here the tip to getting it down is: Use a straw. I know this sounds weird, but the tastebuds in the back of your tounge are bitter so the salt isn't as bad back there. It is still bad don't get me wrong, but at least it is not traveling over your whole tounge to get there!

This sounds even more funny but hey it worked wonders for me and my friends---Just close your eyes and imagine really super salty chiken noodle soup broth.MMMMM mmm good---O.K. not that good but it works EVERY single time

Try the straw it REALLY helps, and if you get it down 2 days in a row you are golden! Those first 2 days are TOUGH though! Another advantage if you can do this is if you get a sore throat you will be able to gurgle salt water after this with NO problem :)

PS I leave these as comments because I don't want to re read what I wrote the entire cleanse hubs were written while I was doing it so it also shows mental state and alterations there :)

The salt water is a fantastic flushing agent. This has been seen on a research conducted by "Spiritual Science Research Foundarion Inc.". The contents and subtle pictures of how this stuff works has been published on their website too.

For extracts of the same, you can see my hub :

http://hubpages.com/_SpiritualSC/hub/Salt-water-th

Do send in your comments and observations and if you can try this out for yourself and tell your friends too, that would be more important for me.

Kind regards

I don't know if this is acceptable but I made 16 oz low sodium chicken broth and 16 oz (1 tsp sea salt) SWF and mixed the two. So it really does taste like chicken broth and I can get it down easily. And it seemed to work the same. But I'm sure it would get a thumbs down from the pioneers. :o) Namaste ~

Guest-  Thank you for the comment and it brings up a very good point, of if you are using the flush with the full Lemon Master Cleanse you cannot use anything other than the ingredients listed.  If you do it totally undoes the fasting portion, but if you are just looking to do the salt water flush to clear something out of your system it would definately help.

The issue with using the broth during the cleanse itself is that you are adding the nutrients that the parasites need to live which is counter productive for the fasting which is to kill those parasites :)  If you can't handle the flush during the cleanse you are better off to just do the cleanse without it but if you add the broth there is no reason to continue the cleanse.

I have used the salt water flush when I have eaten something that did not agree with me though and during these times using the chicken broth would be fine!

"no reason to continue the cleanse"

Jeez thanks for the encouragement! I believe you asked a question.

Guest- I am sorry to have burst a bubble... I tried the same thing and the nutritionist told me the same thing I wrote here.

It stinks I agree, but the broth contains nutrients that the parasites can live off. If you use the broth through the cleanse it is equal to eating which nullifies the fasting using the lemon and cheyne only part of the diet.

If you can stick to the cleanse though (no food throughout, including chicken broth) I promise the flush gets easier after the first couple of days. Unfortunately for the cleanse there is just no way to cheat that it has to be water and un-iodized salt only :(

You can pretend you put broth in and when you close your eyes it is pretty close I have heard that works! Personally the straw did it for me though!

Guest-  I see that you keep posting and I apprechiate your information that you are trying to provide, but please re-comment without the curse words.  I allow all posts as I feel any information is helpful, but I will not be attacked nor allow anyone else who responds to be attacked on my posts ever.

Clearly you disagree with me on the disadvantages of using chicken broth and by all means continue as you wish.  The comment was posted, I contacted my nutritionist as well as my doctor and they have confirmed what I originally responded.  The number of calories does not matter, this post is part of a series and that series is on the Lemon Master Cleanse.  The Lemon Master Cleanse is a diet where you consume NOTHING other than fresh sqeezed lemon, cheyenne pepper, distilled water, and the salt water flush if you chose to the flush with it.

I am sorry if you disagree and that is your right, as I said I will allow posts as long as you remove the poor language choices.  I didn't ask about anything in my posts, and the Lemon Master Cleanse's purpose is to remove toxins and parasites from the body.  That is what it is.  The flush is a part of that.  I am sorry if it upsets you that I disagree with your short cut but the fact is simple, it is a short cut and goes against what the Lemon Cleanse is for.

I apprechiate your bringing it to my attention that people are considering using flavoring as an alternative to just the salt water as it is important that they realize they will NOT receive the full results of the cleanse by using any flavoring.  Again, flavoring gives the parasites something to sustain on, it makes zero difference how much, they don't need much which is why they are called parasites.

The end result will be the same we will disagree on this point but I still wish you the best of luck!

PS If you read the second comment in the thread Jennifer commented that closing your eyes and imagining worked for her every time.

Another little tip is to use the lemonaide mix as a chaser :) Keep us posted on how you do!

I also heard that the flush takes out beneficial bacteria as well as the harmful bacteria. I heard that one should take Latero-Flora, or Primal Defense after the flush...anyone esle heard about this?

Nikki- If you are doing the full cleanse your body is literally resetting, allowing the beneficial bacteria to have the environment they were designed to have. If you want to take any of the supliments I would highly recommend waiting until you are done with the full cleanse. At this time those would be the most beneficial as they would have an optimal environment to thrive in! Thank you for brining it up and you are right in that you want to re-acclimate your body and allow it to work the way we were intended, which does include good bacteria :)

Renee', thank you for writing and I am afraid you will not like my answer, but you really want to wait until you get the Grade B, the Grade A has so much sugar you will not get the results you are looking for and I would hate to see you go through even a day without accomplishing anything, BUT if you are set on starting it maybe better to start than put it off once you start puttin git off I found it is much harder to get going again.

We had to go to the health food store to find the Grade B the first time, but midway through we found it at Publix, and then our second time we actually found some at WalMart believe it or not! The easiest brand to find here in FL is Spring Tree (with the blue "ribbon").

When you do find it stock up! You will definately use it, I found I used about 8.5 oz or a small bottle per day. A little more actually but if I got them as one a day and then added 3 for days when I wanted a little more I was safe. Most stores won't have enough for you to make it all the way through, but when you do find it tell them when you leave that they are out of stock and you should be able to get more there when you run out.

Hope this helps and please keep us posted on your progress! I love to hear the different views I know even while my husband and I did it at the same time it was amazing how different it was to each of us!

I am on day three of the cleanse. I also had huge problems getting, then keeping the salt water down. I was using sea salt, but it was difficult even warmed up and with a straw. I went back to the health food store (Puget Consumers Co-op in Seattle) and found a jar of sea salt called Hand Harvested French Celtic, and the brand name is Eden. It claims on the label to be mellow and smooth, and believe me it is. It's an amazing difference, and worth every penny. 14 ounces for around $ 5.00.

If you are unable to locate it for sale near you, the company could probably tell you where to find it. The website listed on the jar is www.edenfoods.com. Hope this helps someone!

No problem, as a clarification, just make sure that you are not dilluting the flush by drinking too much inbetween your chugs, in other words try to drink as much of the flush before you use the chaser. :)

Hi There. Congratulations on doing the cleanse. I do it every year and I Love it. I am totally with you on the salt water flush, especially before you start eliminating, just a gross gross experience. I don't have much advice other than to try to remind yourslef that it will be over soon. I do have a question though. I have read some people say you need 2 teaspoons of sea salt, and others say 2 TABLESPOONS. any input on this?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Our chiropractor is the one who turned us onto the Cleanse and he was very adamant with us that it was 2 TEASPOONS, that is all that is required in order to get the "weight" of the water up to perform the function of the flush.

The confusion often comes, I believe, in the fact that when people are reading about the salt water flush the Lemon Master Cleanse comes into play as you know, and for that it is 2 TABLESPOONS of the Grade B Maple Syrup. That is just a guess though, and I know I made the same confusion the first time but I promise the 2 teaspoons with the salt water flush works just fine :)

Sam  says:

For the life of me I can't get the salt water down. I drank a little more of a third and spit out the last swig. Can I do the cleanse without the flush?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Sam- Don't get discouraged! Another tip I found was to make more of the flush than I needed then when I was a third of the way though I was really done :) But if you are getting that much down you are on the way! If you really can't do it then the simple answer is that you can do the cleanse without the flush, it just is not as effective. If you are getting at least that much down though I would really try to keep it up! Keep us posted!

Again, yes you can do the cleanse without the flush it is still better than not doing the cleanse at all, the flush is just the crowing blow to clear out those intestines :)

I have completed 3 days on the Master Cleanse and feel great. One problem, I take the saltwater flush at night after I have completed all my day's allotment of the lemonade. The first day, it was effective in about an hour. The second day, longer. It has been 2 hours now and it is ineffective. Do I need to take it in the morning?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Susan- Through trial and error I found that doing the flush first thing in the morning worked best for me, for a couple of reasons. That had me moving around after I took the flush portion and it seemed to help it move faster. (I also had one day where it did not "flush through" as usual, but it did make up for it later!) The Smooth Move had worked through the night to losen things which also helped. AND I was able to use my first cleanse drink of the day as a chaser (yes I am a wimp!).

I did the smooth move at night so it had time to do what it was going to do without the interruption of the cleanse I was drinking through the day. I am a stay at home Mom though, so it was not like I was having to get in my car to get to work on the days it took a little while to "take effect."

If it is just one day then I would not worry about changing up the schedule unless this one is not working for you. Our bodies react differently and usually about day 4-5 there is a day where it did not seem as effective from my experience, but as a bad pun, "This too shall pass." (Sorry couldn't resist!)

Keep us posted on your progress you are doing great!

I have a question. I started off with the salt water cleanse, and I have not been eliminating. is this normal?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Guest2- I have spoken with a couple of my Dr. friends and found out that while it is not "normal" it is NOT "abnormal" to have the results you are describing. If you are doing this with the Cleanse (sometimes people do just do the flush without doing the full cleanse so I am not sure which way you are doing it), but either way they have said they have heard of people having to do the flush 3-4 times before they actually eliminate.

This is just another indicator for you of how badly you needed to do this from what I have heard and read. The body cannot absorb salt water of that density so you are not absorbing all that salt it is just blocked.

Another point I would be remiss if I did not say is to make sure that you are chugging the salt water solution and make sure that the portions of water to salt are correct. (I am sure they are, and that you are not drinking it through the day, but I would be remiss if I did not mention it.) The flush as you already know works by the density of the solution "flushing" itself through the track so as hard as it is, the whole thing must be drunk at one time as quickly as possible.

Again though if you are doing this it is not unheard of to not have the elimination at first and it is even more of an indicator as to why you are doing it in the first place.

I hope this helps and keep us posted!

cleansingt- Awesome on the 3 days! The flush is by far the worst but I can honestly say after the first day it gets better each day. Never what I would consider "enjoyable" but it is definately easier each time! Now on to your question, I asked the same thing and this is the response that I received:

The flush is what pushes everything through as we know. The Smooth Move helps to loosen what is stuck on the walls for the flush to pick up. Personally I did the flush in the morning and the Smooth Move at night so it had time to sit in my system while I slept. Granted my work schedule allowed this, if yours doesn't I would recommend the flush as soon as you get in from work or for the night, giving it some time and then the Smooth Move AFTER the flush has, done it's thing for lack of a better term :)

I did notice that the days I didn't do the Smooth Move the results from the flush weren't as good, but the flush is by far more imporant than the Smooth Move, so if you are only going to do one, then just do the flush :) Hope this helps!

So glad I found this blog... although I've discoved a few things I've been doing wrong.

I was surfing to find the SWF recipe since its day9 and I havent done it yet - first mistake. I have been doing smooth move nightly and senna leaf capsules (active ingredient in smooth move - which I heard were allowed- comment?). This morning was my first SWF and I must be weird or food deprived, cuz it aint that bad! or at least the first 16oz werent that bad, then its just a matter of quantity.

Second mistake... I've had a cup of chicken broth a couple of times - day 3 and day 6. I figured the same as a previous poster - only 5 calories, MC allows salt, its helping me stay on, etc... Thanks for the explanation. It really helps when you understand the big picture. Too late now, but I will know for next time.

Thanks again!

Daynine- Congrats on what you have accomplished! You should be very proud of yourself! I am glad that what you read has helped, we were very lucky in the person who told us about it is a chiropractor and also a great friend so I get a lot of info from him! In response to your questions and a few things I noticed:

I don't think there is any harm in the capsules though they prob aren't needed if you are doing the Smooth Move tea :) I am cost effective too, and if you feel you want more than what you are getting you can always add an extra bag or two to your tea ;)

If today was your first flush and youare on day 9 you are right there really isn't much "food" left, what is comming out is what the Smooth Move is releasing as you sleep. The 32 oz is just more weight pushing more through.

As you were saying with the second mistake, it is not that the cleanse allows salt, it is that the weight of the salt pushes the water through the intestines and gathers the junk on it's way (this is why you want to be near a bathroom when you do it!)

Again I want to say CONGRATS! It is not an easy thing to do, and you have done an awesome job to be on day 9!

I'm going to do a saltwater flush tonight, and start the maple syrup diet tomorrow for 14 days, how much weight is the average for 14 days of it? fingers crossed for me!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Rose- Congrats on starting the cleanse! There is really not an avg, but the lowest amount I have heard of anyone losing after 10+ days on the cleanse is 5-7 lbs. (This is what I lost, but I was only 132 when I started, and my optimal weight is 120.) My husband lost closer to 15 lbs. There are a couple of factors to keep in mind with these numbers though to make sure you don't focus solely on them.

1. You are guranteed to lose weight if you follow the cleanse for the simple fact it is removing sluge that has been caught in your intestines for years. Depending on how much you have is what you will lose. You should still be getting enough calories through the day through the drink, but make sure that you are following that correctly as well. There are quite a few calories in the drink so just because you are not putting solid food in your mouth does not mean your calorie intake can go through the roof.

2. The cleanse is exactly what it says. It is not a diet per say but a full system reset. It will shrink the size of your stomach, as well as detoxifying the body. So even after the cleanse you will continue to lose weight because items that you liked before that were high in sugar will become almost too sweet to eat. If you ate large portions before you will no longer feel the need to eat so much which will also help decrease the weight.

It is a wonderful tool for a full life style change, just make sure you don't get discourraged watching the scale daily, I didn't lose ANY weight at first either, which often throws people off and turns them off before they can see the results :)

Keep us posted on how you do!

Adriana  says:

How long after you eat can you start the salt water flush? And the flush is only on the first day of the cleanse right?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Adriana- You can do the salt water flush immediately though I would suggest waiting until you have your next solid movement :) The flush by it's shear design will push it's way through the intestines and push out anything there.

As for the second question, I don't think you will like the answer, but the salt water flush is an every day thing :( As you do the cleanse the citric acid removes things that are lined on the intestines, and the flush pushes these things out. Remember there is no solid food in your system to get caught in the lining anymore but there is also nothing to push anything out. By the end of the cleanse and the flush it should come out quickly to put it politely. Some days during the cleanse you will have "solid" movements after the cleanse and this is what you are doing the cleanse for. To remove these things that have been stuck in the system.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Adriana  says:

Adriana  says:

Also, is it safe to exercise while on the cleanse?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Adriana- I did mornings because I am a stay at home mom. You want to do it every day, but keep in mind if you have a commute to work DON'T do it before you get in a car to get stuck in traffic :) And yes the Smoot Move at night helps to release more from the intestines while you sleep.

It is safe to exercise during the cleanse in moderation. I would NOT recommend running a marathon or even training for one while on it, but reasonable exercise is fine. You will be getting about 3000 calories a day, but not the protein, so just do it in moderation would be my suggestion. I swam, walked, and chased my 2 year old through mine and was fine :)

If you have any other questions as you get going please don't hesitate to ask!

Adriana- Hi sorry about my typo :) it is 1,300 calories!

Congrats on getting down your first flush (I didn't get my first one down!)

You can wait until the day after tomorrow it won't hurt you :) Personally I would consider it the best move. If you want to start the lemonade you can, I would just not eat solid food. Once you have set your mind you are golden! I would do the Smooth Move tomorrow night and the flush starting the day after.

Keep us posted on how you do, having your niece do it too will also help keep you motivated.

im on day three of the cleanse and i read somewhere that putting the 2 teaspoons of sea salt in a small glass and adding a bit of the warm water and drinking it like a shot then drinking the rest of the warm water straight down is the easiest way to do the flush,so i tried it and it works just as good as the other way. sweet

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Peter-  Thanks for the tip I will have to check it out with my friends (the Doctors I am just the one who writes lol) and see what they say.

After doing it for multiple days and not getting the whole flush down on some, I can't see how it could be as effective because the way it works is that the salt bonds with the water and the weight of the water is what flushes through. If only a shot glass size amount of water is weighted, that doesn't seem like it would be as effective. The other water would be absorbed regularly because it would be just like drinking water (which is allowed) through the flush.

You would definately push something through either way, I am just not sure if the secondary water would be adding to the flush or if you are just pushing through... I am just speculating though I will have to ask those who went to school for this to be able to be definitive!

I will definately ask them though! I am about to do the whole thing again and if that does work just as well it would be much easier! Good luck and keep us posted!

I work full time and don't want to risk getting stuck in the car on the way to work! I have found the SWF very effective. Last weekend I drank the SWF straight, got through 3/4 the first day and then the whole lot the second day. Today I have added a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the SWF and it made a huge difference, was much easier to get down. Seems to have worked just as well as last weekend. Because the juice is part of the overall cleanse do you think it is okay to add some to the SWF?

I have only ever gotten down to 165 and I was running seven miles a day six days a week. Do you think it's possible to get down past that by doing this flush? Maybe I am just carrying around extra toxins or something?

Also, I took the SWF, got it all down, and about twenty minutes later... well, you can get the rest, is that normal or what?

Laura- Congrats on starting the cleanse! It is a wonderful reset for your body and will alter the way that you eat, drink, and everything else! Now on to your questions :)

Weight is a big reason that people do the cleanse but it is not the main focus you should have. If you were running 7 miles a day 6 days a week, you also have to remember that muscle weighs more than fat. Now you WILL lose weight on the cleanse. No doubt about it, but if you do not use it as a reset you will just gain it right back eating the poor foods. I have known people who lost over 35 pounds while doing the cleanse, it depends on your diet previously and what is stuck in the tract (there is no polite way to say that lol).

The SWF daily will DEFINATELY help with this! And yes that is absoluetly normal. The longer you do the flush the faster it will go through, that is it's purpose and it does it well :) The salt in the water weighs the water down so the salt is not absorbed by the body and the weight of the water pulls what the cleanse has released from the intestines through the day through the tract to fully clean it out. (It will NEVER be clear, so don't wait for that as an end point.)

If you can do the flush every day you will see "solid" things still comming out in 7-15 days and sometimes even longer. These account for about 10 pounds of what you will lose on average. The other thing this will do is when you come off the cleanse your body will be able to absorb nutrients correctly again and you won't have to eat as much which will help to continue the weight loss/maintain the weight.

Keep us posted on how you do!

I heard that you could use Molasis for this instead of the maple syrup, is that true? And if it is, what kind are you supposed to use?

Kim- I have heard of many substitutes but unfortunately after talking with our Dr friends and research the ONLY thing you can use for this to have the fullest effect is Grade B Maple Syrup.

This is not easy to find, but Wal-Mart does carry it as do most of the major grocery chains. You just have to ask customer service to order it for you and they will order enough for your full cycle (you don't want to be 4 days in and run out!). I actually ordered enough for about 4 days more than I thought I could go because as long as they are unopened you can always return them to the store :)

Okay so I have done the master cleanse twice and both times I never needed to do the laxative tea or the salt flush. I had liquid coming out of me everyday all day it was overkill for me to do the flush. Some ppl just don't have to do it I guess otherwise I'm sure I would have ended up very sick. My body just knew to eliminate. I lost 2-3 pounds a day and on my frame thats a lot! 10 days and I was skeleton. I wanted to feel better with less aches and pains and that I had but the weight loss was a bit extreme and scary.

To anyone and everyone who wants to do the lemon cleanse, I have done it twice already and just started my third time. Here are some tips I can give to you all which have helped me. But before I give you some tips, I want to clarify some points of questions I have read on all the other posts here.

1. You must use ORGANIC sea salt ONLY. No exceptions.

2. You must use ORGANIC B or C grade maple syrup ONLY. No exceptions. If you cannot find it anywhere, I recommend the following website. http://www.alishan.jp/shop/nfoscomm/catalog/ I am not sure if they ship outside of Japan but I think they do. The maple syrup they supply is exspensive but it is also the best 100% organic maple syrup I have ever found.

3. You must do the salt water cleanse in the morning everyday, unless it starts to burn you in anyway, then stop for a day or two and then continue, but do not stop the fasting.

3. You MUST NOT eat or drink ANYTHING (except the lemon maple drink or plain filtered water). No exceptions.

4. Adding the salt water drink to a chicken broth or anything else is a waste of time. The idea of the cleanse is to remove any and all toxins that build up in the body from the food we consume. This would include toxins from chicken broth or anything else.

5. There is no limit to the amount of lemon/maple drink mixture or water that you can consume, but be careful as even too much water can cause a person problems.

Ok I think I have clarified those main points enough. Here a some things that have helped me while doing the lemon cleanse fast. I hope they will be beneficial to you all.

1. Make a decision completely to do 10 days of the fast NO MATTER what before you attempt to start. Trust me this sounds cliche but it will help you in the long run.

2. Make sure you have enough of all ingredients. for 10 days you will need a minimum of 1 litre of organic maple syrup. Use only filtered water to make the drink with. I have found that what works best for me is 2 litres of filtered water with 100mls of maple syrup and 100mls of lemon juice and a couple of shakes of the cyenne pepper. You can add a LITTLE more or less maple syrup for taste. If you can't find cyenne pepper.

3. For the lemon juice, you can buy 100% freshly squeezed lemon juice and this works fine. If you are going to cut up lemons and squeeze them yourself, then I HIGHLY recommend you use a juicer (not a blender - a juicer). And be careful when you are separating the lemons from their skins, the lemon juice will spray onto your clothes and lemon juice is a great bleach. So unless you want white spots on your clothes, either cover them with an apron, or just remove them completely...(:

4. OK as we all know (those who have tried anyway) the salt water drink is an absolutely disgusting experience. I have found that a few options that work best for me when it comes to this part. 1. Put the salt into a glass with a little bit of hot water to disolve it, make sure it is well dissolved, you may have to break it up in the water with something hard or whatever. Then add a little cold water. Fill a separate glass with nothing but cold filtered water. Take the salt water mix in the first glass which should have no more than an inch of water in the bottom, and down it in one gulp, (BE BRAVE) then chase it down with the water in the second glass, and repeat with more water if you need. This way allows you to get the salt water down very quickly (in one or two gulps) and then the water from the second glass washes it down. Be warned though, because you are using such little water, the salt taste is extremely strong. But the benefit is that it is over much quicker. 2. Another way that works well is to use a big glass of water, mix the salt in the same way as I mentioned in number 1. and make sure that the water temperature in the glass is luke-warm, the colder the water the stronger the salt taste, too hot and you wont be able to drink it quickly. But if it is luke-warm the salt taste will be a little weaker and then take a deep breath close your eyes and down that glass. You may feel the urge to throw up but you must control that. Then once you have finished the glass of salt water, chase it down with a glass of the lemon maple drink. 3. One more trick you can try is before drinking the salt water drink suck on a couple of strong mints, and as soon as your mouth is all minty, remove the mints (or finish them) and then drink the salt water, the mint acts as a kind of taste numbing - usually just long enough to finish the salt water drink, follow it up with a couple of glasses of water or the lemon maple drink.

5. Finally make sure you have NOWHERE to be for at least 2 hours after you drink the salt water, trust me, don't even try to leave your house, you WILL regret it if you do. The laxitive effect of the salt water flush will hit you when you least expect it, and when it does you are powerless to stop it... you have been warned... hahaha...

Well I hope these tips help you all, remember there is no easy way to get around this process, it takes will power and perserverance, but the benefits far outweigh the downside. For the saltwater drink as a rule just remember that more salt = stronger taste but a faster process. And no matter what people say, drinking salt water does not get any easier no matte how many times you try it. But your ability to put up with it increases.

Don't give up!

Hamish  says:

Please ignore some of the spelling mistakes in my post above, it is 5:30 in the morning and I am still half asleep. As for my number 2 tip, forget the last line which mentions the cyenne pepper. It was supposed to be deleted. The number 2 tip relates to the maple syrup only.

Thanks.

Kassie-  I apprechiate your post as it makes a good point.  Many think that since they are eliminating often (this happens when you run out of food in the system), that they don't need to do the flush or the laxitive.

The laxitive and the salt water flush are not meant to be a weight loss situation, and I am glad that you lost weight, but without the flush and the laxtive at night you did not receive the full results of the cleanse.  This is NOT to say that you didn't get great benefits from it, simply that it was unable to do all that it could have done.  The salt water flush as explained above is done because the weight of the salt with the water helps to clean off the intestial lining of what the lemon and cheyenne have released through the cleanse.  Gravity is not enough to push this through.

Again, congrats on being able to make it through twice and I am sure you were able to see a tremendous difference, but I did want to make sure that people understood that while I can 100% see where you thought you received the full benefits there is no way that could have happened without following EVERY step of the cleanse.  They all have a purpose even if we don't fully understand.  Luckily I had my doctor to explain why I needed to do them or I would have thought the same thing you said.

Thank you so much for this page of detailed feedback. I did the SWF for the first time about five minutes ago, after reading all of this last night. The "imagine it's chicken soup" tip was INVALUABLE, as was the advice on keeping the focus on the BACK of my throat where the taste receptors are different. I drank it pretty hot, and got half down painlessly. Had to gulp the rest and mnaged 9/10 of it before I stopped. I figure I'm a small woman (103lb) so almost a quart for me is good enough! Now I'm in the Waiting Period! Thank you...

Rachel- Thank you for the kind words, and most of all congrats on getting your first one down! The first one is by far the hardest! I commend you on getting that much down! Please keep in mind that it may take some time for the waiting period to finish esp the first few days! There was one day it took about 4 hours for me, this was a day I got quite a bit of results lol, and I am glad I waited! Keep us posted on when it gets easier for you, I love to hear success stories!

Hi! I just drank the laxative tea for the night and am about to begin my journey with the master cleanse tomorrow morning! I had a quick question though...After you drink the salt flush in the morning, is there a certain amount of time you should wait before drinking the lemon mix? I have read on your previous posts that you sometimes chase the salt flush with the lemon mix, but I just wanted to make sure that wouldn't interfere with the flush. So...do you recommend drinking the first glass of lemon mix fairly soon after drinking the salt flush? Or if possible, do you recommend not using it as a chaser and waiting an hour or so? Any suggestions would help! Thanks a bunch!

PS...I also commend you for a fabulous page with A LOT of useful information for newbies! Also, all the tips you and everyone else have supplied does wonders! Thanks for all the help and keep up the support and encouragement for everyone, including myself! Good luck to all!

blogging2  says:

Bella- Thank you for the kind words, and please keep us posted as your journey progresses! As for your question, personally I didn't drink the "chaser" as one of my "regular" drinks of the day, but I did have it mixed to help get the taste out of my mouth. You are correct in that you don't want to dillute the salt water too much, but a sip or two with some swishing does wonders!

The flush goes through each person at different speeds, and remember the first couple of days you may not see the "full" results, I have had a friend who had zero results the first day (but I assure you the second day made up for it!). The speed of the flush will get progressively faster as the cleanse continues as it doesn't have as much blocking it's way.

So in clarification, as a chaser I don't mean a full glass of the lemon mixture, just a couple of swishes after you get as much down as you can to go again. Hope that helps!

Today is Day 1. The SWF was absolutely the worst part of the entire process today, especially as your first drink on this detox. I used 1 tbsp of sea salt and filled a 1L jug with lukewarm water. At first sip, it wasn't too bad- the problem arised when you stop and try to drink it again....BIG MISTAKE. Although, the taste was awful- I did manage to get it down....and results within 45 minutes.

I absolutely love the taste of the lemonade - I especially like the kick of the cayenne pepper. I am halfway done day 1 and feeling very fatigued and starting to develop a headache - which I have heard and read is normal.

I wish everyone luck and looking forward to the results.

blogging2  says:

Kerri- Thank you so much for the update and congrats on getting started the hardest part is behind you now!

Yes once you stop it is pretty rough to start again, but getting results makes it worth while doesn't it?!?! At least for me I felt like I had "accomplished" something.

The fatigue and headache are very normal. It comes from a variety of things but just a couple would be: 1. of course the detox that is starting to take place. 2. comming off caffine and sugar will be the primary cause of headaches. If you are big on either I hate to say but it will get worse before it gets better, but it WILL get better! 3. A large part of the cleanse as we know is mental, our mind thinks that we need the food even though we are getting more than enough calories with the drink.

I also loved the taste of the lemonade and would even "kick it up a notch" as Emerald would say with some extra cayenne sometimes just to vary it up some!

Keep us posted as you go through!

Hi, I was wondering if it is okay to do the SWF at night after drinking the lemonades during the day? And also, would there be a problem if I do the lemonade cleanse without the SWF or the laxative tea besides not getting the full benefit?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Erin- you can do the SWF at night, but the best results are in the morning, here is why. As you sleep the Smooth Move does it's work on the intestines along with your final drink of the day, removing the sludge that has built up. When you do the flush in the morning it picks all this up and flushes it out. If you can only do it at night it is better than not doing it at all though!

If you do the cleanse without the flush or the smooth move you definatley won't see the same results as if you do these. Personally I felt that if I was going to go through all of the other, there was no reason not to do these portions (though it was HIGHLY tempting to pass these up as they are aweful espically at first!).

Grace- any detox has the potential to flare up any problems you may have had in the past, just because the detox releases all the toxins and clears them out of your system. So unfortunately you MAY have a flare up, but the other side is if it does the toxins will be completely gone by the end of the cleanse.

i have just started the master cleanse today and have just about managed to drink my 2 tablespoons+1Litre od water mix. it was pretty foul and i only managed about 3/4 of it.

i have made up my lemonade mix - but i was wondering how soon after the drinking the SWF can i start drinking it - as will it dilute the mix too much if i drink it too soon ....?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Michelle- Thank you for bringing up this point that sometimes gets glossed over! With your small size, you will definately need to watch your calorie intake (You can get more than enough calories during the cleanse, by adding an extra drink or two, and the maple syrup would give you those.)

As for how much you can lose it really depends on what is "stuck" in your tract. With as small as you are I cannot see you losing more than 10 lbs. If you went any lower you would be falling in the anemic situation which is NOT the purpose.

If you chose to do it, I would definatly make sure to monitor that weight carefully and if you drop too much I would definately come off.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

London- I totally agree on how foul it is :) It gets a little better but not much to be honest. 3/4 is pretty good for your first go round!

I would not drink a full cup right after the flush, but you can use it to help get the taste out of your mouth :) I personally waited about 30 minutes before I went for my first drink of the day. The flush moves through pretty quickly, remember the salt is in the water to give it weight so it is not really "sitting" in your system to get diluted :)

I tried to start the lemonade detox today- I bought the concentrated mix at GNC. It tastes awful when u mix 2 tbs with 8 oz of water!! I tried adding more lemon juice and more water but I gagged it down. I won't be able to stick with it if this is the case. Can u still eat mints? That's the only way to stop the gagging reflex for me.

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Candice- Personally I tried the concentrated mix as well (after I had done the cleanse making it by hand) and you are correct it is AWEFUL! By hand following the ingredients I have on the hubs, it really does not taste bad at all, it is a sweet lemonade.

As for mints, mints/gum/or anything of that sort causes the saliva to start being made which stimulated the digestive tract which defeats the purpose of the cleanse. I hate that I cannot give better news but I would hate for you to do the cleanse for however many days and not get the results from it!

Personally, I would return the mix to GNC, and buy the lemons and maple syurp (just buy enough to make one mix) and see if you can handle that. The taste is COMPLETELY different than the concentrate!

I wish I had better news but again I would hate for you to do it for any period and not get the full results.

My thoughts on the SWF are this: dissolve the 2 tsp in 8oz warm water, drink with a straw, and chase with 24 oz warm water. Even if you can get half of the salt down in one go, follow with water, and repeat, it should work out fine.

Plus, 24oz of water will totally take away the saline aftertaste.

Kisl3al3y  says:

I am on it now and this is my 2nd time doing it, for some odd reason the 1st time the salt wasnt really a problem. This time I feel like Im going to throw up everytime I do the salt and it totally takes me out of commision for a couple hours cause it just makes me feel really bad. Today same feeling but it was easier to get it down by doing a double shot of salt water and following up immediately with a bottle of regular water. Same nasty feeling but much easier to get down

Melly- If that works for you wonderful! I spoke with my Dr. friends about it and they said it is OK, but to make sure to let people know that the flush is designed with the intention of the whole 32 oz being used to cleanse the intestines as it is pushed through. By doing it that way the results should be faster, but not as thorough on the intestines. Still they said it is not a horrible thing and if it is the only way you can do it then absolutely keep it up!

Kisl3al3y- I totally understand and can clearly remember sitting and crying to my husband and our friends who got us started on the cleanse that I was going to do it just not the flush. They were very supportive, but made it clear that it was one of the most important parts of the cleanse. I still dread it even knowing what is comming when I start again on Monday but I know how much better I felt when it was all done. I can say the more you do it the easier it gets, I know it doesn't seem like it but I swear it will! You will even get to the point where the only time you are out of commission is the time it takes for it to run through your system :)

I am on day 4 of the cleanse. So far, the salt water flush has not worked. Last night i used approx 3 teaspoons of salt the correct salt and nothing...

So this morning i used the Smooth Move herbal laxative tea. It worked, but i am disappointed the salt water flush has not worked. If i am going to drink this horrible thing, i just want it to do its job. So tonight, i am going to take another smooth move tea. First thing in the morning, I will try the salt water flush again. Any suggestions?

aps- Just to make sure, you are drinking 32oz of water mixed with the salt right? And doing the smooth move at night?

If you are not seeing results from that all I can say is that I think something is being done wrong, but I don't know what since I am not there. The first day or two I have heard of no results from the flush but that is due to a back up somewhere which means when you do have results they will be significant. Still if it is being absorbed i the body it is not good to continue as is. I would recommend doing the smooth move in the morning and evening for a couple of days and then trying the flush again. Giving your body a couple of days to loosen up the clog :)

Detox- The flush was introduced to me with the Master Cleanse, but I see absoluetly no reason why it would not work with any cleanse. The prinicple is still the same, the weight of the water due to the salt will push anything through the tract and that is always good. I was wondering if this is at all dangerous doing these flushes because i just had my first "bowel movement" and it hurt. And I read on a laxative box a while ago that if you take too much of the required amount you poop out your intestines. I was scared that was going to happen to me just now. Oh and I was reading the comments above about not working your digestive track or something. Well I'm getting over a cold and I still have some mucus and when I sleep I swallow it. Is that a problem?

8anp- As with anything if you do too much of even a good thing, it can be bad for you. As for the first "movement" it will probably burn, that is the toxins comming out :)

You should NOT be taking any laxitive during this. The smooth move is the closest thing and ONLY one drink at night.

The mucus should not be a problem it is not enough to alter the equation :) Please don't hesitate to ask any other questions you may have. This is definately a case of doing what the directions say though, it is extensive enough as it is, there is NO reason to deviate from the plan. It gives you 3k calories a day, and the ONLY laxitive you should take if you want to call it that is the Smooth Move, and ONLY one glass a day.

Moderate exercise is OK on the cleanse. No marathons or anything like that! But you will be getting 3k calories a day so moderate (walking) would be OK. If you feel fatigued I would definately say to stop but listen to your body. If you are fatigued or feel "out of it" back off!

Did your mother lose a lot of weight with doing the cleanse the 40 days? Also if I can not drink the full half gallon lemonade daily is that ok?

She did lose a lot of weight, I am not sure the exact amt but I will ask her and let you know. You want to drink as much as you can espically if you are planning on walking. You want to make sure you get enough calories to keep going, the point is not to starve yourself :)

thanks for answering my question! im also wondering cause ive noticed that im not hungry that much now so i stopped drinking all of my supplies. is that ok cause i really feel like i dont need that much anymore

I heard that drinking about 25~35oz of water mixed with only one teaspoon of uniodized salt will also work.. Is that true?

Michelle  says:

also would drinking 2 teaspoons of sea salt in a small glass then drinking some more water be as effective?

crazy- your appetite will decrease but try to keep up at least 3/4 of what you are supposed to drink. You are not trying to starve yourself with this and you want to make sure you are getting enough calories which is why you need to keep drinking :)

Michelle- I would love to say that either of the options you said would work but unfortunately you need the weight of the water to have the effectiveness. If you put too much in a small amount and then try to mix it in your stomach it won't work. The weight of the water is what causes the flush to work, without all of the weight it just won't have the effectiveness :(

Thanks. Now I'm wondering what I do on the last day of the cleanse. I have to do a salt water flush right but the smooth move tea isn't nessesary at nighttime correct? Because there wont be anymore salt water flushes after the 10th day.

8- I did the flush every day I was on the cleanse as did my mother (my mother did it for 40 days, doing the flush daily). With that, I am not sure I understand the question :) Please clarify and I will answer the best I can!

8anp  says:

Oh sorry for the confusion. I was asking if on the 10th day of the cleanse if I have to drink the smooth move tea at night in addition to the salt water flush I will take in the morning. I'm only wondering because it will be the last day and I won't be doing a flush the next day. Oh and I'm only doing the cleanse for ten days.

In addition, is it alright to switch what time I take my SWF so late into the cleanse? It would be easier on me to take it at night now instead of in the morning. If so, what time in the day would I take the tea?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Hi 8 :) No problem! You want to take the Tea about 12 hours before the flush. At night is easiest just because it has time to sit in your system without being flushed through quickly with the drinks you are taking during the day, but if you have to switch it around to be able to do it then that is better than not doing it at all!

You don't have to do the smooth move if you are not doing the flush the next day, you can, it won't hurt anything, and the smooth move is beneficial itself but you don't have to. I personally liked the Smooth Move just because it gave me a little variety in taste (not much but something lol).

michelle  says:

Can I use mint tea, or the smooth move tea as a chaser when I flush?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Michelle- I would not use anything not listed with the cleanse (the lemon mixture or Smooth Move), but I see no reason why you couldn't use either of those two as a chaser, I used the lemon drink as a chaser myself :)

hi im new here and im thinking of trying the master cleanse, but would like to find out more first!

will the cleanse still help in detoxing your body if not done with the salt water flush?

this is because i do notice my body retains water easily at the slightest increase in sodium intake. im worried that the salt water flush will make me retain all the water that i've drunk throughout the day then wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

pls help! thankssss (((:

blogging2  says:

JR- I understand your question (I had the same one when I started) but there are a couple of things I want to point out, hopefully they help :)

1. You can do the cleanse without the flush but it is not nearly as effective. Now lets address the sodium issue (I thought the same thing).

2. You have to remember you are NOT increasing your sodium intake with the flush. The salt weighs down the water and pushes it through your system. It seems like it would cause a spike in blood pressure and water retention, but it actually does the opposite. The salt bonds with the water and is through your system VERY quickly.

3. You want to do the flush in the AM if possible. I did the smooth move at night to loosen things up as a slept, and then did the flush first thing to remove all that had come loose during the night.

If that did not answer your question please let me know and I will do more research for you!

jr  says:

wow thanks! but im in university right now... if i do the flush in the morning won't it affect my day in sch if i have to keep rushing off to the washroom?!

and for the smooth move, will the 21st century herbal slimming tea (which has senna leaves) work? ((:

blogging2  says:

JR- Once it is through your system it is through your system :) The flush is not something that is going to keep making you "rush" throughout the day. I would try it on a weekend or at night the first couple of nights just so you can see how you are going to respond to it.

I am not sure but switching the Smooth Move for a Slimming Tea does not sound too good to me. The Smooth Move is fully organic and it is to help with getting the sludge off the intestines, something that is being promoted as a "slimming" tea seems like it would have other things in it that would counter act the purpose of the cleasne.

I tried the MC for 2 days and fainted for a little while on the 2nd day, but im on my third day now and i'm quite alright, just a little nauseous from the SWF and bit lighthearted but it's much better than the first two days already.. should I continue?

monica  says:

Restarted my whole cleanse, had a halfday MC yesterday, and this morning took a SWF, not everything's out but I do think it came out quite alright. The water was just sooo salty and I felt like puking on it. I'm worried if I put too little salt the water will just seep through my system and enter my bloodstreams instead, then i'll have massive bloating and hypertension for no good reason!! But too much salt, I'm going to gag now.. it was 2 heaping teaspoons of non-iodised seasalt.

It's 3.30pm, I woke up at noon and did not have anything to eat other than the salt water so far. Not hungry, just craving for biscuits and stuff like that. But I keep telling myself just ten days and it'll be over! Cleaner system, stablised metabolism and 5 kg lighter hopefully!

Anyway there's nothing much to be done over the next week so I can might as well do this cleanse and get it over and done with.

I'll just consider today as a day 2,see how it goes. going to make a lemonade for myself now!

Ive done the cleanse before ( about 6 months ago) and it was amazing!

I've just started again using the same recipe, but the salt water flush is not working. Nothing is happening! ...

What should I do?

monica  says:

only half the water came out... i'm worried, will the salt water get stuck inside and absorbed into my system? too much sodium!!!help. . .

I restarted the detox, trying for a 6 day fast. Today's day 2, I woke up wanting to die..everything seems so tempting to be eaten, yet I want to be slim so bad...going to cry any moment,I couldn't sleep the whole night too!

yet I kept in mind my goal, being able to eat with friends slimly, or being my current fat rate and eating while looking piggy. That's how I got past yesterday day 1 with 6 cups of lemonade.

The salt water flush was seriously bad,it's alright in small amounts but I felt like throwing up right after that litre. Wish my luck to just get past today, I'll think about tomorrow when it comes. And it'll be day 3 tomorrow! Time flies, after tomorrow it'll be day 4, once that passes it'll be dayy 5 and i'll be looking forward to my last day- day 6! Weight loss won't be too obvious probably, but I just want to have a taste of how the fast is like,I've been sleeping my day off yesterday, and I think I'm going to have a nap, it's 8am now. and I woke up at 3am feeling really hungry.lazing in bed makes me stressed over thinking of the load of homework that needs to be revised but I think the weight loss is more important to me right now. I'll catch up for exams after this week is done. Anyone agrees with me? I just need to huddle in bed the whole day like I'm going cold turkey. Why's my mind so wEAK!

Heathear  says:

On day three... I have had awful headaches and I am positively exhausted!!!! Couldn't hack the cayenne in the lemonade so left it out yesterday and the maple syrup with lemon doesn't exactly agree with my palate. So today I picked up the agave nectar and cayenne capsules. OMG- so much better! I'm just taking a couple capsules per serving. I might actually make it to day 10 now- there was no way before. Did the SWF on the first day and have been religiously drinking my senna leaf tea morning and night. Doing this whole thing to take off a couple of pounds but mostly because my digestive system is an absolute wreck and I needed relief. I am crossing my fingers that after this is over, things will be more normal for me.

LBMH  says:

I agree that the salt water flush is unbearable. I cant do it again. So i had a thought...is there any reason why the saltwater mixture cant be prepared in a smaller quantity of water (lets say 1 cup), then followed with the rest of the liter of just plain water?

I am on day 2 of the Master Cleanse & have realized that I need to be doing the SWF. I have tried this cleanse a few times before with more success each time. The first time, I lasted for 2 days, the second time, 7 days, the third time, I lasted for 12 days(goal is 14 days). This time around, I intend to go for 14 days & incorporate the SWF & the Smooth Move as well.. The only problem is, going to work knowing that I just consumed something that will make have to leave my desk several times a day without my boss becoming irritated! Can the SWF only be done in the A.M? Can I drink the tea while at work & do the SWF at night?

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

LBMH- unfortunately that will not work. The weight of the water is what pushes it through your system. One cup is not enough to accomplish that and it unfortunately it would not mix in your stomach as we would like it to :)

Shelly- You can do that if you need to. It is not as effective but much better than not doing it at all.

Jenny  says:

Started the Master Cleanse yesterday. Haven't gotten ANY "results" except one very small solid. Is this normal! And I tried to do the SWF the regular way yesterday and just simply could NOT handle it. So now i take the salt in a small glass with some water and down the 4 quarts of regular water after.

Anyway do you know why nothing has happened?

Jenny  says:

Now its been an hour since i drank the SWF. The SWF didn't work yesterday either. I'm not as worried about the salt water as the fact that i haven't gotten ANYTHING out of my system. I've been drinking the lemonade mixture. I know that that's only part of the cleanse, but shouldn't something still happen? So either I'm not doing something right or my system is just REALLY messed up hahaha!

Love your blog by the way. Very helpful!

Okay, that's good to know. Perhaps that will explain what happened to me today!!! I tried the SWF when I got home from work yesterday. I wasn't able to get the entire amount down. I forced myself to the point of gagging. I tried the chicken noodle soup trick, the holding my nose trick, the chugging method, it was just....awful... So, today, on Glorious Day # 4, I drank a cup of the Smooth Move tea. I took it at about 10am & by 2pm I could feel some stuff having a conversation with my insides. I tried to let as much "build" as possible & then hurried to the bathroom. It was more of a liquid than anything else. I was able to have a few movements that way today. There was a time today, where I thought that I had to do the # 1 & the # 2 "liquid" came out!! I went back to my desk, thinking I was finished, when all of a sudden, the WORST pain EVER consumed my buttocks!! I can only describe it as a butt spasm because I could not MOVE!!! Mind you, I am @ WORK!! I was on the terror throne for what seemed liked 20 minutes. Finally the pain subsided & I was able to escape. I PRAY that this pain is not a normal part of the "cleansing" process because, I think... I will die... I am going to try the SWF again tomorrow once I get to work(OMG, saying my prayers now!)hoping for better results than today. As I sip my Smooth Move tea, I wonder what the rest of this journey is going to be like.

Jenny- OK to make sure I understand what you are saying, you are trying to drink a small glass of salt water and then chase it with the rest hoping it mixes in your stomach? If so you will NOT see the results of the flush. It must be done (and believe me I know it is AWEFUL), with the salt mixed into the full amount of water. It will NOT mix in your stomach to get the desired results (oh how I wish it would). It is not unheard of to have a couple of days before you see the real results of the flush, but again it MUST be done as the directions say, not mixing in the stomach. If you can't do it the regular way, you are better off not doing it, though you will not see the full results of the cleanse.

blogging2  says:

Shelly- I am not sure if I understood you right, but you will feel a burning with the flush which causes your rear to spasm until the toxins are out. The worse the burn the more toxins you are releasing. I am not sure that is what you wanted to hear, but it sounds like you definately needed to do the cleanse :)

Jenny  says:

Ahhh I see, I should have read more of the comments!Haha thanks though! Well, I'll try it out. But is it possible that ingesting all of that salt would raise your blood pressure? Like would the salt get into your bloodstream??? that's something I'm worried about!

blogging2 profile image

blogging2  says:

Jenny- Above there are a few comments reguarding this (tip: Do a searh/find for blood pressure on this page) but the short version is, if you do the flush the way it is supposed to be done, mixing the salt with the full amt of water and dowing it as quickly as possible, the salt bonds to the water, and weighs it down. This weight is what "pushes" the water through the intestines and creates the "flushing" of them. If you do it the way you said, then yes it could have adverse effects as it is not bonded to the water and some could be absorbed into the blood stream (more than you would want there, I am not saying you are going to die, just that I would not recommend that way again).

I must be weird or something, because the SWF is not that unpalatable to me. I think it had something to do with the association (haha) I remember 'drinking' the sw I was supposed to be gargling with when I was 4 or 5 yrs old and had lost my tooth. Makes me think of my grandma. So I sip and wait for the poop. LOL.

This blog has been quite interesting as I wait for the results and sing the Jeoparding music in my head. Thanks!!

I tried the swf twice and each time I puke, I cant take it. An I re-read the book and its not manditory to use the swf it tells you to drink the laxative tea in the morning and at night. An to only use the SWF to help the cleanse along. So thank goodness for that other than that I am day 5 now of my second cleanse, and after the couple days which caused me to have serve miagraine headaches (did not take nothing cause ya body is suppose to heal naturally, did use 3 ice packs for my headache though). I am more alert, energized, and I feel better.

How much time should I be taking to actually drink the SWF? Does it need to be chugged? What is an ideal time for complete consumption?

Guest- While the SWF is not mandatory, you definately do get better results using it than not. The headache was your body releasing toxins and it is great that you were able to make it through without taking anything :)

SM- You don't want to take forever (it is aweful any way) so I found the faster the better, and the better results!

SM  says:

I took a little under an hour last night to drink the SWF, and nothing happened after all that gagging. Ugh. Don't want to go through all that again if I'm doing it wrong. If you had to give me a time frame, what would you suggest? chugging just will NOT work for me. I'll gag.

Having my first lemonade this morning. Spicy.

I'm doing the cleanse for the second time. I'm on the end of day 1. Is it ok to drink the SWF at night? Also, I drink the solution by drinking it very concetrated and then using water as a chaser. Last night when I did it...I had no reaction. I was wondering if the salt mixed with the water enough by doing it that way? Also, I take cayenne tablets instead of putting it in my drink...is that ok? Last thing I was curious about was I am actually doing this because I have a swollen saliva gland under my chin. It comes and goes but has been there for awhile. The Dr. said maybe we should take it out. I don't really want to do that and the last time I did the cleanse it seemed to go away for a three months or so. Any input on this?
