57Uncover Mastiff Dog Secrets
It's unbelievable that many new prospective dog owners don't take the time to decide up front what it is they want to get out of owning a mastiff dog. Even though it may sound obvious but the most important question that needs to be answered is "Why do you want a mastiff?" There are many answers to this question and some of the associated questions are as follows:
* You want a mastiff outside to warn of intruders?
* You want a Mastiff as a pet for your children?
Why A Mastiff Dog?
It matters little what the reason is if you realize that having a mastiff as a pet can bring your family together. But giving the temperament of the mastiff breed be aware of the fact that not all mastiffs are good for every situation.
Step 1 - Puppies?
Think of starting off with a puppy if you are selecting a new mastiff for your children. By starting off young you will get to train them the way you choose. Plus you get the benefit of watching the puppy grow up with your kids.
Step 2 - Gender?
The next step for you will be in deciding the gender of your new mastiff. This decision really comes down to mood and size. Keep in mind that male mastiff's tend to be bigger in size than females. Males also have a more dominant and aggressive nature.
Step 3 - Temperament?
Finally you should take it upon yourself to check the temperament of the mastiff you are considering. There are several ways to do this:
1) Hold the mastiff in your arms and tip him on his back (if size allows). If he struggles consistently, this may mean he will take more patience in training. If he lays there, genuinely calm, you can be rest assured he is mild tempered and will be easy to work with.
2) Clap your hands, or make other loud or sudden movements. A mild tempered mastiff will look curiously at you, while a shy or nervous mastiff will be startled or shy away.
Conclusion
Now that you have taken the time to read this information you should look to do more research on the different types of mastiff breed available when selecting your new mastiff. It is important that you ensure that you will have time to care for whichever one you choose. If you take all of this information into account you will find your mastiff experience to be a much better one.
