Mauritius the Island of my dream holidays

Mauritius, the Island of my dreams

I watched a film 'Blue Lagoon' with Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins, when I was a little boy. I also watched many other films, which included magic scenery of tropical islands, wild tropical rain forests, colorful wild animals and plants, beautiful and rich coral reefs, crystal clear water, always laughing local inhabitants.

I have created many such heavenly, tropical retreats in my mind (imagination) for the times, when I was passing through many real problems of modern hectic and very demanding life style, which sometimes doesn't allow you even to breath properly. These little oasis of tranquility have been often helping me to continue my life-journey, even though, the situation had been very critical and even live threatening, sometimes.

I could switch to the silence of such moments or to the bird singing backgrounds of warm tropical gardens in my mind, almost instantly, and I am starting 'to suck new life energy', motivation, joy to change my current bad mood into something much more positive and feel-good.

Mauritius was and still is the Island of my dreams. There, I'd spent my best holidays ever, and I am going to regularly return to that Exotic Tropical Miracle in Indian Ocean for the rest of my life.

Just a thought about warm, green, charming Mauritius provides me with new, fresh energy and power, which I need in the big City of London to stay cool, calm, always smiling and ever inspiring to people around me, in-spite of traffic congestion everywhere, bad air, bad weather, crime and gang culture. I do dream about Mauritius!

Early Breakfast surrounded with wonderful birds

My Son loved early breakfasts surrounded by colorful birds

My son was 1.5 years old, when our little family visited Mauritius for the first time. He simply loved it. Wonderful warm water of Indian ocean, sunny, sandy beaches, many colorful little birds, beautiful flowers and many palm trees. My wife was still sleeping, when I took my son to the terrace of our wonderful hotel resort to have an early breakfast. Early mornings were not crowded at all. Maybe, a person here and there and wonderful, always smiling staff, who we learnt to call by their names. It is not so easy to keep a healthy baby, full of energy to stay close to the table, but there on the terrace, little red, green, blue and other birds came very close to our table. My son was so excited, but he soon realized, that these little birds didn't stay there, if he was running towards them. He learnt to sit at his tall baby chair at the table and to admire and to laugh to these naughty little birds, who were coming closer and closer to pick rice or bread crumbs.

I could recall these happy moments as some of the most wonderful moments of my entire life. I am so very grateful to Mauritius Island to allow me to experience its real tranquility and peace.

Many, many wondeful flowers

Mauritius Tea is my favorite one

I love tea, coffee or any other drinks, really. My work has always been somehow connected to food, drinks, catering, hospitality.

However, there is one sort of tea, which is my favorite one, and that is the Mauritius tea. There are amazing tea farms on the island, where tea plants are carefully nurtured, selected and finally blended and packed.

It is a strong 'black tea' - regular tea, with natural vanilla spice added. The combination gives truly amazing, velvety gentle taste. That is certainly my favorite tea and I love to add milk to make it even more 'velvety and smiling'. I've experienced there for the first time in my life, that you can really enjoy this tea throughout the day, no mater the weather temperature or the occasion. So many times I chose this tea, instead of any other much more exotic and bubbly drink at the tropical beach, as well.

Every day about 11am, I had a tea pot served in one of the most beautiful open terrace beach bars in Mauritius. Very old fashioned colonial style, wasn't it? Me, a lover of cold beer, drinking a hot tea on the tropical beach? Yes, I told you that Mauritius is a very special place, where things are just not the same as in the rest of the world.

There is even an official scientific study about the positive influence of Mauritius tea.

Palm Trees

Palm Trees and wild animals

My son's favorite book was a children's book about Palm trees. That book was following him almost anywhere. He had known a lot about palm trees before he visited the island for the first time at the age of 1.5years.

And again, Mauritius had been preparing another pleasant surprise for my son. There is a natural park with more than 75 different sorts of palm trees. Truly amazing garden resort, where we had spent some very nice time.

Mauritius is also a home to many interesting animal species from tinny, fast, colorful geckos to huge and gracious whales.

Mauritius and amazing food

I love Mauritian Food

You simply need to taste it! Fresh, fresh, fresh ingredients! From the most exotic sorts of fruit to the rich and numerous sea food delicacies and many, many more 'dishes to die for'. Chefs on the Mauritius island have really managed to touch me profoundly by their professional skills, which is an art. (I was a catering/hospitality professional, as well, and it was not so easy to impress me in this department, at all).

Beautiful Island of Mauritius

Sunset on Mauritius

Service of Air Mauritius was just amazing

We traveled from Venice to Paris, where we changed the plane to big, new Airbus of Air Mauritius. My personal experience with Air Mauritius staff was just amazing. Even though, we had a little kid, who was very curious, we managed to have a really pleasant flight and I need to say once more, that the girls were just fantastic. I believe, that was also the best possible introduction to the Mauritius island itself, before the real meeting.

From cold winter Europe to the warm and exotic Mauritius.

I've realized a bit later, that my first flight with Air Mauritius also meant my first direct contact with Mauritius tea - my favorite tea blend.

p.s.

It is really hard to find an outstanding Air line, these days, isn't it?

Coral Reef surrounds the Mauritius Island

Beautiful Coral Reef surrounds this little, exotic island. I was a bit deeper down there and I admired those colorful fish, crabs, shellfish and corals. Coral reef protects the island against the brutal force of the waves of Indian Ocean, and also allows very many animal and plant species to flourish all over the reef.

I was lucky to spend some hours down the reef among sunk ships and boats, where I had enjoyed beauty of colorful life forms, which are now heavily endangered by global warming and climate changes.

When I have decided to promote renewable energy sources much more intensively, I'd also had in mind all those fantastic and picturesque coral reefs around the world, who had already died, because of the very real and catastrophic effects of global warming and climate changes.

Beautiful pictures! Yes, it's indeed a fascinating place.I have a friend from Mauritius who once attempted to teach me French and Kreol for a bit , but either he was too impatient or I was too slow ,lol.Their language is so sweet that a foreigner might think they are singing, lol.Someday I hope to visit him there. Thanks for the great hub!

solarshingles profile image

solarshingles  says:

Thanks, for your interesting experience about learning Kreol = Creole, Bluewings! Good teachers are really rare, these days, but he is your good friend... Mauritius had rich and interesting history of being conquered (used) by colonial powers of Portugal, France and finally Great Britain. It si a member of a Commonwealth, a big institution, which includes about 1.8 billion people, worldwide http://www.thecommonwealth.org/Templates/YearbookH

Beside official English language, people often speak many languages. Creole, French, Hindi and many more. Creole is the local language, which you nicely described as singing. I like it, too!

Try to keep your contacts Bluewings. There is nothing better, than being introduced to one country by local citizen. You could see so much more, than other tourists and you could really FEEL the country, much, much better. I hope, you are soon get a chance to visit this little heaven on earth, the island of Mauritius.

Bluewings, thank you for a nice comment! Both spellings are correct, I like Kreol, as well, especially, because Mauritius has a wonderful community of many nationalities, of many religions, of many political opinions, yet they all live in peace...That is one of the secrets of Mauritius Island.

Dear Charlemont, thank you! I found only this link for now, but I am sure there are many more shops selling Mauritius tea.

Tea bags are fine, but loose tea is far the best. If you could get it, go for it. It takes just a little more efforts to brew it properly, but the taste...and the mild , smooth pleasure at the end is certainly worthwhile that.

Temperature just perfect and I haven't seen any sharks, due to huge 'spin dolphins' population, even though I am sure there have to be somewhere, but there is also a coral reef all round. Whatever made you think (and even put it in writing) that you do not WRITE WELL?! You write with passion, dedication, knowledge, personal experience, emotional investment - and you have attracted such a huge crowd of admirers! Perhaps you might feel right about sitting down and RETHINKING - taking an inventory of your talents - and WRITING could very well come close to the top of your list.

There are many ways in which one can write - but nothing beats putting on paper personal experiences deeply felt in the heart. You have shown courage before - in so many ways in your life (even though you seem not to give yourself too much credit for it) - perhaps it is time to find the courage to pursue your real talent - THE TALENT TO WRITE  from the heart.

you asked for advice:

please be more ACCEPTING of yourself. you are a valuable loving person who has important things to say - and there are people who would like to know hear and read what you have to say. Your life is worth telling it as a story (i can always help you as a profesional writing consultant - if you need techniques or clearing of obstacles to creativity)

Hey there! I agree with Bozyslawa: You write very well, including this Hub--even though I feel the photos on this page are its true Crowning Glories (particularly the birds surrounding Early Breakfast). I'm reminded of one Christmas season perhaps 20 years ago. My parents were still with us but aging, and my two sisters suggested we three kids each write about the Ten Best Things our parents did when we were growing up.

That worked beautifully. Not once did we duplicate any story, illustrating how differently memories record supposedly similar events. But my point is this: My youngest sister, Harriet, a career R.N., sent HER stories to me to edit since she felt Big Brother (as the family's most published author) could "correct" her middling efforts. However, I could find nothing to change, not even a single bit of punctuation. Harriet writes every bit as well as either of her older siblings...but until that moment, she NEVER KNEW IT. So, now you know!

Also, before I forget: THANKS for the promotion you did for my basic website. Meant to toss you a salute yesterday, got involved in your Solar Shingles Hub, and...forgot.

Later,

Ghost32

I have travelled from east to west and find that when you travel to a country, you become enamoured of it. You love the sights and sounds of that country and become more tolerant of its inhabitants whether they are black, white, yellow or brown.

Each has its beauty, and you only have to open your heart to appreciate it.

Oyin, Mauritius could be a very nice honeymoon destination. I felt/feel so very safe and appreciated there. There is no sharks, dangerous snakes, 'big wild' spiders... I truly love it!

Rookie Expert, you won't regret if you decide to visit that magic and tropical Mauritius island and stop your time, there in your next holiday season. Forget about the wild rush of every day busy life and listen to the sound of the Indian ocean in coral bay, birds, the very moment. Try local fresh food, fresh tropical fruits and discover the secrets of Mauritius tea...you are going to start to love Mauritius, because it is truly something special...

Thanks solarcatpain! It was so easy to present magic Mauritius island in my own humble way, even though, I know that such pearl as tropical Mauritius truly deserves better writer to address its hidden beauties by written words.

Great work on this hub! I just returned from my honeymoon last week: we went to the Turks and Caicos Islands (British West Indies) for our Honeymoon for a week. My first time in the Caribbean and wow! First time snorkling - third largest reef network in the world is a good place to learn! Maybe next time it will be time to learn scuba!

Wow, Dreamscaper, that was just a wonderful news about your beautiful honeymoon spent in the region of West Indies. Magic, warm and vibrant tropical islands are those special places on earth, where most people would love to spend at least a few days of their holidays at least once in a life time. I love Mauritius island especially for wonderful, simple, hardworking people who live there and who are capable of genuine smile and laugh, and not like in the big city, where you are pronounced strange if you say Good morning to somebody on the street or if you smile to her/him...

It is so incredibly beautiful, isn't it? What I find great about your hub is how wonderfully well your words have managed to capture the spirit of the place. Mauritius should thank you for being such a great ambassador :)

If you like Mauritius, I'm sure you'll like the Maldives as well - it weaves the same kind of magical spell around you too - and yes, the great thing about these islands is that our kids have a great time there too!

Hi Ridwaan, thanks for your kind comment about the beauties of Mauritius island and its natural habitat, and especially its kind and ever smiling and very 'warm' people.

About eBay: I had a very nice shop on eBay about very rare collectors designer clothes and a perfect reputation with loads of testimonials in the past, but I closed it when eBay started to behave badly towards small shops/sellers. I will never consider to open my shop on eBay nor I will I use eBay, any more.
