Max Out Your Moxie
59This Got Me Thinking
Isolde's post on the women of Sex and the City got me thinking. It's so true that we all identify with a character (Carrie, table for one plus insecurity). And I definitely feel like some days I just need to channel a little Carrie, a little Sidney Bristow, a little Christina Yang to make myself just that inch more fabulous. So here are some women we can all channel--just when we need that little extra rockage.
Jennifer Garner as Sidney Bristow
Fearless
When you're feeling a little bit nervous (hello, big interview? first date?) channel Sidney Bristow, played by Jennifer Garner.
First of all, she's a spy. 007, step aside, because Sidney Bristow is amazing. She transforms from sexy to all business in a second, and she always gets the job done. And only she can successfully navigate the world of being a double agent and still have time for some smooching with Michael Vartan.
But Sidney knows her limits. The secret of being truly fearless is knowing exactly what you're capable of and acting with complete confidence. Lacking a little? Borrow hers. She's got enough to share.
Love Life like SJP
Fabulous
Some days you need to know that you can screw up, do it with style, and the world will not come to a crashing halt. This is what Carrie is all about.
Carrie takes chances, with her fashion and her life, but it's all about being true to yourself and your style, be it Manolo's or men. So she spends too much money on inappropriate wardrobe choices. So she's not perfect, especially when it comes to her love life. Carrie's real brillance and best gotta have it quality is, strangely, her optimism (I thought that was Charlotte's job...). Even when everything is swirling the drain Carrie take a moment, has her self pity party and she reassesses her approach to life. She steps out to appreciate her life and the world around her, and that is her fabulous secret.
Wearing a little Carrie reminds us that it isn't the bad things that happen to us that define us, it's the way we deal and react and regroup. Not sure how to do it? Do whatever makes you feel fabulous, and baby, rock it.
Christina Ricci Trix It Out
When In Doubt, Rise Above--Literally
Trixie from Speed Racer is next up in my be-fabulous profile. For those that never caught the comic or haven't seen the movie (go! it's incredible!) this girl is uh-maze-ing.
Her boyfriend's a race car driver and she's a helicopter pilot--who also can moonlight as an above average racer. Throw in some mechanical skills, and you've got it--a girl that doesn't play to the tune of a gender bias.
Trixie is totally loyal to her love, she's sassy and sweet and she never doubts herself, her skills, or her emotions. And she does it all from a cock pit people. Trixie is all about trusting yourself, and believing that rather than be threatened or repulsed, the people around you will love you better for it. Want to rock this style? What ever you love to do (or whoever)--stop apologizing for it. Immediately.
When All Else Fails
Rachel McAdams as Lisa in Red Eye played a woman with something every girl can learn some more of: resourcefulness.
For those that didn't catch the movie, Cillian Murphy traps the hotel concierge on a plane and orders her to change room plans so he can kill a major political figure or her father will die. Among her major badass moves? Deftly handling angry customers while still maintaining a friendly persona (help with the in-laws, anyone? Or that creepy guy at work?), making impromptu deadly weapons out of a pen (stabbed into a jugular) and a stilletto heel (stabbed into a thigh).
No matter what is on the line, this woman keeps her cool and keeps her brain working in overtime to save the day--and that might just be the best star power so far, because it works with your jerk boss, your nosey neighbors (for the TV version of Lisa, look to Lynnette on Desperate Housewives) really just about anyone or anything that is interrupting the zenness of your day. Can't maintain the casual cool? Try breathing through your nose rather than your mouth--it will calm your racing heartbeat.
More Fierce than ANTM
Sometimes we all just have those days when, for the sake of keeping the peace, we shy down. We let our coworker take credit despite the fact that we all did the work because it might look petty to speak up. We don't demand our fair share because we're afraid to look desperate.
Christina Yang is the character that allows no defeat and offers no quarter to those in her way. She is unapologetically competitve, demanding what she wants out of the world and absolutely certain that she has to get her way. She never questions herself or her ability, and nothing will get in her way.
The true glory of wearing a Christina Hat is that she stands up for herself. No one will ever walk all over this little lady--or if they try, they'll soon regret it. She doesn't allow the social dictations of behavior to stop her from getting what she deserves, and as women fighting for a spot in a man's world (the male executive still receives considerably higher paycheck than the female) this is a woman we could all take a little rockage from.
Christina Yang

Thanks for the comment, Isolde! I might have to do another one of these because "Giselle" is totally perfect for the list--a woman who isn't afraid to be recklessly optimistic and happy! Gotta love that.

Hey AC - first, thanks for making note of my hub!
I think that a great so-good-to-be-channeled female character is Giselle from "Enchanted" - sometimes you just need to be able to sing, dance, and smile about everything with complete confidence, no matter who is watching!!!
Keep up the awesome hubs!
