Max and Ruby
Max and Ruby

Max and Ruby is one of a handful of great children's show on Noggin. My sons have enjoyed watching Max and Ruby for a while and I wanted to make a hub about it.

about the show

Max and Ruby is about a brother and sister bunny's relationship and how they work out problems on their own. Max is 3 and gets into a lot of mischief. Ruby is the 7 year old older sister. Ruby can be a little bossy at times but she is very patient and understanding with Max. Most episodes consist of Ruby trying to get something done while Max is just trying to have fun.

Max and Ruby started out as a series of books by Rosemary Wells. The books and show are pretty funny and has adorable characters.

Opinion on Max and Ruby

My youngest son Jakob is five and can easily watch the show over and over. My oldest son is seven and used to love it just as much. However now he considers it a baby show. They both always got a kick out of all the noises and messes Max would make.

Our local library actually had a backpack full of Max and Ruby stuff we could borrow. Jakob borrowed it and was so excited to bring it home. It had a stuffed animal of Max and some books that he really liked. He was a little disappointed that it didn't come with a dvd like some of the other backpacks we have borrowed in the past. So maybe we can get him a dvd of the show for his next birthday.

Apparently some parents complain that the bunnies live by themselves without any parents around. I think that is kind of silly. The show is about bunnies that talk and wear clothes what do they expect? Is their some kind of cartoon guide that says what is and what isn't okay for fictional characters? Anyway the creator of the show mainly wanted to show how siblings need to work some problem out on their own. I think the show is very good at getting the point across.

What do you think about the show?

I like your real story about Max and Ruby. I like, how you described your Jakob's and your oldest son's favorites. They are growing very fast and their tastes are changing and 'growing' with them, as well. These bunnies are so cute and innocent in comparison to some other children's shows.

My son loves Max & Ruby! I must admit that my husband and I do comment frequently to each other about where their parents might be, but we're willing to let it go because the show is great! :)

Max and Ruby is definitely cuter than Dora. I always get a kick out of all of the mischief that Max gets into.

Max and Ruby are great. One of my favorite books is Bunny Cakes. I love how they interact. They are innocent and yet sometimes a little mischievous.

Hi Jim 10, I am just getting acquainted with your topics and writing. So obviously I'm quite late in leaving a comment on this one about Max and Ruby. I had no idea it had been made into a children's TV series. I used to read Max's Birthday (the only Max & Ruby book we had) to my son. He is now 16.5. Happy memories!

All these animated shows for kids can easily get on parents' nerves. In my day, it was Barney the Purple Dinosaur, then the Teletubbies. Enjoy this special time in your parenting life... and do NOT read any of my hubs because they will only depress you about what happens next (just kidding).

Thanks I have only read a few of the books. We will need to check out Bunny Cakes and Max's Birthday. Max can be very mischievous. I don't think I would ever leave him alone for a second if he was in my house. But he would be cute and funny to watch in someone else's.

Patient is an understatement! Poor Ruby deals with a brother that is exactly like my son!

The thing thing that cracks me up about the missing parent thing is that Grandma exists, but mom and dad apparantly don't. Maybe that saying you hear grandparents quoting came true for their grandma: "If I'd have known grandchildren were so much fun, I'd have skipped having kids and gone right for the grandkids!"

What a fun dad you must be! Thanks for the great hubs!

jim10- I am a fan of Max and Ruby. The way Ruby handles very stressful situations is great for kids to see. I was just thinking about this recently and asked myself - 'how many children are watching the show who never see their parents handle difficult situations with a cool head'. I for one think it is one of the better cartoons for kids. (and I am terribly picky).

So glad you wrote about the show.

Thanks Tomato. Most Parent look down on the fact that the parents are missing from Max and Ruby. But, overlook what a great role model Ruby is. You are absolutely right. Ruby is always great at dealing with all of the troublesome situations Max gets into.

I think Max and Ruby are great, but I also am a member of the Facebook group, "Max and Ruby...where are your parents?", which is just for fun. I can only speak for myself, of course, but the idea is not to actually criticize, but to joke about what appears to be a weird living arrangement in a children's show. If I were actually concerned about the content, there's no way we'd watch it. But as an educator, I'm a big fan of the books, and the show is a huge hit in our home. It's just a joke, that's all. :) It's like watching Sesame Street and wondering why everyone puts up with Oscar's grouchy ways, or why Bert and Ernie don't just call the pest control service to get rid of the Tweedlebugs in the window box. :) My understanding is that the creator wanted to show siblings working things out on their own, and I think that's great. But yeah, the Facebook group is just a lark, not some sort of outcry against the show, by any means. Thanks for writing about the show.

We ALL love Max and Ruby at our house. Even my 11 year old son. It's just that cool of a show. Our favorite episodes are the dragon shirt and the snake episode. We also catch them on Nick Jr. (I notice you have a link to that just under the comments. Kudos.) I do an impression of Ruby's voice and the kids just love it. It gets them giggly and calms them at the same time. I think that's one of the best parts about the show, the thoughtful and calming effect it has. What a great idea to write a hub about Max and Ruby.

My son loves Max and Ruby! We sing the song but we sing it with his and his sisters' name instead. He loves "Max's Dragon Shirt" the best. I am currently looking for him a cute "kid-friendly" dragon t-shirt that looks similar to Max's. Any advice?

Thanks Stephanie, I would suggest trying to find an image of a similar dragon then go to http://www.zazzle.com/ or a similar site. They let you upload pictures and then you can order the shirt. You could also try to find someone that does airbrushing. There used to be people that would airbrush shirts at our local mall. But, I haven't seen a mall with one for years.

"Bad egg," said Max. My son is 25 and still laughs when I quote that line from a book I read him when he was about 3 years old. Great hub!
