May Day Immigration March 2007

At 10 AM this morning 17 streets in the downtown LA area will be closed for another immigration march. Though crowds are expected to be less than the million or so people that marched last year, you may want to change your driving routes this morning.
Check the local news websites to see exactly which streets will be closed. A freeway offramp will also be closed.
Don't look at me. I don't know what to do either.
The Immigration issue is a big complicated mess. I can see valid points on both sides of the argument. Half my neighbors are Hispanic and probably have relatives in Mexico. Probably one in four businesses are owned and operated by the Hispanic community. I hate to see anyone suffer, but there is no quick fix.
News reporters knocked down.
This morning Fox 11 showed some news clips from MacArthur Park where participants and news crews were pushed around, knocked down and roughed up by police. Police were responding to some rock throwing and other projectiles, but it's unclear if the people doing the rock throwing were the ones the police were shoving around.
