Maybe we should be depressed!

Pills are not the answere!

The health care industry has filled us all with the idea that depression isn't our fault and that they can make it all better with a pill. I myself have dealt with depression and have even had a couple of suicide attempts. There answer was to give me a pill that would make it all better. I am here to tell you all the a pill is not the answer. A health care system that doesn't suck and that people can afford would go a long way in making life worth living. Not having to pay government officials a butt load of money to not do their job or to do it poorly would go even further. Looking out my window and not seeing six cop cars raiding yet another crack house would make my life a whole lot better. Maybe we should be depressed because life is depressing. Instead of feeding us happy pills that make us sit on our ass' and watch TV until we see another pill that just might make us happier they should be fixing the problems that make us depressed. I know I don't speak for everyone on this but come on people we have to do something. Our country is going to hell in a hand basket and we sit back and watch it happen. I am outraged at the crap that our government allows to happen. Do I do anything about it? I must step down off of my high horse at this moment and say no I do not but all that is about to change. I say to all of you to demand action for your hard earned dollars. Write who ever you feel you must to get something done about what ever subject it is that ticks you off. I don't care if I agree with you or if it is even a problem that effects me as long as you are taking action in order to correct it. I hope that those that read this take the message to heart and do exactly what I have asked all to do because this is the only real way that we can fix the problems that face us in our everyday lives.

You have raised good point! But at the same time, if you want to understand the things you must know yourself and reactions coming out from you! It is possible that your sensitivity is grasping the things in its true forms which are disturbing you or you can make easy finding the wrong part of the happening... I agree...

But to make one's own self balanced in all kind of situation and to understand the reality without compromization is more important and challenging thing! So  kicked out the depression and accept the challenge with positive outlook and strong mental and emotional back up with truthfulness! Because every time a small truth also provides the strength and security from within!

Great rant! And you're so right, we SHOULD be depressed. I had a friend who was taking prozac. She said one day she was going to work on a rainy monday and giggling to herself. I just thought, hell no, you're SUPPOSED to be depressed on a rainy monday on your way to work. That's what monday's are for.

The obsticle that is now ahead of us is figuring out how to keep from being depressed by changing these things that depress us.

You know I never take pills for anything. A few years ago I learned I had sciatica and I was in extreme pain, so the doctor gave me some pain medication. I did not like the way it felt so I stopped taking it. Most people swear they need theirs, but by walking and exercising I have learned to manage the pain, and it became much less. That was the only time in my life I ever took pain medication and I just feel I do not need it. I had a friend who was becoming way too medication happy and I told her maybe should step back and think about the necessity of all those things she was taking. Personally I avoid taking medication unless it is necessary because I feel I can get through most things by eating healthy, most of the time, exercising, and having a positive attitude.

I have been told that I need medication but I hate the way it makes me feel. I am bi-polar and just need to remember that it is never as bad or as good as I feel it is. Thank you for your comment. I read your reply on the comment I made on your hub SweetiePie, I'm glad that you have decided that you are going to voice your opinions no matter what people may say.

I agree. I used to work at a psych services center at a Cal State university, and a lot of students came in asking for drugs that would help them feel better. Some people just don't understand that sometimes being depressed or sad is a normal feeling that everyone has to experience at some point. We'll get over our problems eventually. Antidepressants in fact have a lot of side effects and never really help. Counseling or psychotherapy is a much better way to overcome your depression. Or sometimes we just need a good friend to talk to.

Nice hub:)

" Maybe we should be depressed because life is depressing."

You could not be more correct. A very pertinent subject.

The objective of modern medicine, like any profit-motivated industry, is to make money. Your health, be it physical or mental, is of no particular concern. If you are sick, good, let us do what we can to keep you that way, which is how we make our profit.

The health industry is not interested in health. Its sole purpose for existing is to create profits. Modern medicine does not wish to address the cause of any given illness but only to treat its symptoms for as long as possible. The longer you are alive but ill, the greater the profit.

This sort of comment is the reason I'm such a big fan of yours CWB. It is not only well writen but informative as well. You give your opinion in such a well organized manner that it is easy to read and enjoyable. I am always disappointed when I reach the end of what you have to say.

Depression is usually if not always accompanied by stress and deficiencies, vitamin B most of all (hence 'stress tabs'). B-100's work really well over a couple weeks, taking one morning and one evening or one or two WHENEVER YOU WANT - it's not a drug, but works naturally! And wonderfully by the way. (the B vitamins were used to prevent / cure depression until the druglords(makers) took over; szo is simply a B deficiency, just as it always used to be).

For totally natural non-toxic pain relief, chew or swallow enzymes - in seven years this has ALWAYS worked for every kind of pain. See maureeen saalaman's books.

This is refreshing to hear. Before deciding to venture in to the film industry, I worked with child abused kids for 7 years. The pills are not the answer. There's a pill for everything and a diagnosis for everything. If we wash our hands too many times- we're OCD, if we feel torn and can't make decisions or if we have are more moody than others- we're bi-polar. I'm not sure if anything the doctor's tell us is real anymore. What I do believe is faith in our own mind and that we can work towards manifesting what we want. I believe that there is hope but I also believe in the totality of the human spirit. This means, that it's okay to feel like shit every once in a while. So as long we can pick ourselves up again and decide that we have control over our behaviors because we are not our emotions- we're much deeper than what we feel. Feelings are fleeting- in the end it is our essence that truly matter. Those that know us: family, friends, and loved ones- will understand. Sometimes leaning on them through the rough times- can work wonders for our spirit.

Well said! Life is depressing and apathy about changing it is the real disease. I also complain, moan and groan but do nothing to change it. I am Bipolar too and have struggled to keep my mind on task. Doctors mislead me too with a long list of medications supposedly guaranteed to make me happy. I must confess, I did find a medication that sharpened my mind and helps me concentrate on the things that I can do to improve my life. (Thank you for reading my hub on positive thinking.) I applaud you for speaking out about the things that so many of us only give a fleeting thought.
