Me Too

The Two Most Powerful Words
You've been there. We all have been. That place in life when we become convinced that we are on our own and that no one can understand what we are going through. Then all of a sudden, as we pour out our heart to someone for the 100th time in effort to lighten our mental load, we hear the words we've longed for. Me too.
Me too. Sounds like a simple little phrase doesn't it? For the most part it is. It only take a second to utter the words but to the person who is hearing them they can make a world of difference.
They are two simple little words and when spoken apart from each other their meanings can be very insignificant. However, when spoken together an amazing thing happens, they become inclusive. By saying "me too" to someone you have just told them they are not alone in their situation, or opinion, or thought. It tells them that you understand, and have traveled some of the same journey. It is an amazing thing to hear the words "me too" when you have become convinced that there is no one else who could possibly understand where you are in life or what you deal with on a daily basis.
In the world of parenting these simple little words can be like a healing salve on the heart of a hurting mother. As moms we usually blame ourselves for the hurts our children go through and wonder what we could have done differently to prevent them. If you are the mom of a child with special needs you may feel like you are the only one to ever face the challenges you are now dealing with and question everyday what it was that you did that caused your child's condition. Shouldering that load alone can be overwhelming and tiring. To finally find someone who can listen to your heart's hurts, your mind's heavy concerns, and then look into your eyes and say "me too" is amazing thing.
Me too, they are two of the most powerful words in the English language and they speak volumes without saying much at all. No explanations are needed after these words are uttered, there is just a simple understanding and connection that wasn't there before. A camaraderie is made and where there was once one person traveling alone there is now two traveling together and sharing the load of each.
They are simple little words that hold a lot of weight when paired together. Just like we are only one person until we are paired with someone who has shared some of the unique turns and twists that our journey in this life has taken. When that happens we are no longer only one person standing against the challenges of life; with a simple "me too" we become something more.
