Stretch marks are actually scars. What makes them different from each other is the way they are developed. While scars develop from wounds, stretch marks occur due to overstretching of the skin.

What makes them similar is that they occur mainly within the layer of the kin known as dermis. For scar treatment, a lot of doctors and physicians highly recommend Mederma. While the product provides an effective treatment for scars, some people prefer to use the product as Mederma stretch marks remedy.

The makers of the said product claim that it has a patented extract called Cepalin which is the secret formula that treats the scar away. But just like any other scar treatment cream, Mederma contains onion extracts that softens the scar tissue while it improves the overall appearance of the scar.

The thing is, it improves the scar. That is different from completely and permanently getting rid of scars. The same thing can be true for Mederma stretch marks treatment.

However, there are researches revealing that there might actually be some truth on the claims of the product’s makers. Onion extracts are said to have the capacity to naturally make scars fade away, although not completely disappear.

It would be interesting to note that on the package of the product, its limit is actually hinted. It says that it works best on stretch marks that are newer and fresher, that are reddish or pinkish in color.

As for those marks that have already faded and turned into white, the product may not work as well. This is true for almost all types of treatments for scars and stretch marks.

The smallest tube of Mederma costs around $ 16.99. Some people may find the price repulsive, especially for such a small amount of cream, but it could be a better choice for people who cannot afford to visit a dermatologist and undergo treatment or surgery which is definitely more pricey.

In that case, opting for a Mederma stretch marks treatment could be a cheaper way to improve the appearance of stretch marks.
