Got a Cold? These Teas Really Help!
72
I've never really taken any natural supplements to cure anything before. That's not to say I don't believe in natural cures, I've just never really given it a try (save for taking Echinacea when I feel like I'm getting sick).
Last week, I was at the mercy of a terrible cold. I thought it was allergies at first, but I kept getting worse and worse. So, I stocked up on cold and decongestant medication, but it seemed like it just wasn't enough! It felt like every orifice in my head was plugged with mucous, I had become and expert sneezer, and my sore throat was miserable. I sounded like a gorilla when I tried to speak and I was forced to breathe through my mouth when my nose was plugged. I am not a "mouth-breather"! Besides, how can your nose be plugged up, causing so much pressure and drip like a leaky snot faucet at the same time!? It makes no sense.
Phamaceutical Disappointment
I felt like I was taking way too many pharmaceutical decongestants because I had to exceed the recommended dosage just to feel a tiny bit of relief. Then, about 4 nights ago, I was getting ready for bed. Should I chug Nyquil in the hope of sleeping through my symptoms, or should I try some of my husband's Traditional Medicinals tea? After all, it did say "Cold Care P.M." on the teabag, and that's exactly what I needed.
So, I brewed a bag of the Cold Care P.M. and hoped for the best. After drinking the soothing warm substance, I couldn't believe how much better I felt! I then decided to sample all of the Traditional Medicinals teas in the box and post a review of their quality and effectiveness.
Gypsy Cold Care
Don't let the name fool you. Just because the word "Gypsy" is in the title, you won't be subject to an artistic life of poverty and wanderlust. Instead, you will find this unique tea to be quite helpful in your time of illness.
The Traditional Medicinals teas are made with organic herbal ingredients, and that really makes a difference in the taste. The Gypsy Cold Care tea is slightly bitter, but that doesn't mean that it tastes bad. On the contrary. It tastes pretty minty and I can't really tell where the delightful sweetness comes from since I don't use sweetener in my tea. Here are some of the listed organic ingredients for this tea:
Elder Flower
Yarrow Flower
Peppermint Leaf
Hyssop Herb
Some cinnamon bark and ginger too
This tea did make me feel good in the sense that I was don't something good for myself by trying a natural cure for my common cold, but other than that, it didn't really take away my symptoms like I had hoped. I was able to breathe easier, so that was good, but I think that I would have to drink more of the Gypsy Cold Care more often to feel the complete effects.
Throat Coat
This one is absolutely wonderful!! The Throat Coat is sweet and it smells great. It also really does make your sore throat feel better! This one ended up being my favorite in the Cold Care Sampler pack. Now I brew one Throat Coat teabag every time I brew any other tea. In fact, the first time I tried it, I slurped all of the tea down and actually sucked on the teabag afterward!!! Does that sound weird? Well, it probably is, but when you try it you'll know what I mean :) Some of the listed organic ingredients are:
Licorice Root
Slippery Elm Bark
Marshmallow Root
Wild Cherry Bark
Sweet Orange Peel
Take it from me, this tea is excellent and should have a designated place in everyone's medicine cabinet!
Lemon Echinacea Throat Coat
This one is as sweet as the regular Throat Coat, but when you drink it, your tongue tingles from the organic Echinacea. As the name suggests, it is also pretty lemony. When I drank it, I felt like it was the "morningtime" version of the Throat Coat series since it was zestier. Some of the listed organic ingredients are:
Echinacea purpurea root
Licorice root
Lemon myrtle leaf
Marshmallow leaf
Cinnamon bark
I certainly recommend this type of Traditional Medicinals tea. It helps you reclaim your senses, and the Echinacea undoubtedly helps fix your cold symptoms.
Echinacea Elder
This tea didn't really do much for curing my cold symptoms, but I did breathe a little easier when I was done drinking it. This tea is meant to boost your immune system with Echinacea. Laboratory studies have shown that it significantly produces and activates immune cells. So, it seems like this tea would be a great preventative measure during the cold and flu season. Some of the listed organic ingredients are:
Echinacea Purpurea Herb
European Elder Flower
European Elder Fruit Extract
Chamomile Flower
Yarrow Flower
Peppermint Leaf
This 100% organic tea is tasty, but beware of the strong Echinacea after-taste. I would recommend this tea to someone that felt the beginning symptoms of illness to boost the immune system.
Herba Tussin
This wonderful tea is great for helping with your cough and sore throat. The Eucalyptus really helps open your sinus and nasal passages. It tastes great, but you'll be able to tell that it is spicier than the other Cold Care teas. It smells great because it is minty too. Some of the listed organic ingredients are:
Eucalyptus Leaf
Licorice Root
Slippery Elm Bark
Wild Cherry Bark
Marshmallow Root
Spearmint Leaf
West Indian Lemongrass Leaf
I would recommend this tea to anyone suffering from a cough, congestion, and/or sore throat. The aromatic blend will open up those clogged passages!
Breathe Easy
I love this tea! It really does help you breathe easier when you are sick and stuffed up. It tastes great and the minty flavor is very cooling and soothing. Some of the listed organic ingredients are:
Licorice Root
Eucalyptus Root
Bitter Fennel Fruit
Peppermint Leaf
Ginger
I would recommend this tea to anyone suffering from congestion. It is great before bedtime because it relaxes you and helps you breath easy enough to fall asleep.
Cold Care P.M.
This is the first Traditional Medicinals tea I tried and I was very impressed with it. The Cold Care P.M. is great to take before bed because it relaxes you. It also seemed to help my breathing, soothe my throat, and stop my sneezing before bed. Some of the listed organic ingredients are:
European Elder Flower
Linden Flower
Chamomile Flower
Passionflower Herb
Peppermint Leaf
Eucalyptus Leaf
I would certainly recommend this tea to anyone unable to find relief from their cold symptoms long enough to fall asleep. This tea is slightly sweet and minty.
I hope this information was helpful and I hope that you are able to find the natural relief you need when you are suffering from a common cold like I was. Good luck and be well!
