Jasmine is a beautiful flowering plant with delicate small white flowers that has a luscious scent when newly open. The delicate Jasmine flower opens only at night and is picked before dawn, when jasmine is at its aromatic peak.
Jasmine essential oil: Jasmine is commonly used essential oil today not only because of its luscious scent but also because of its medicinal benefits. The flower of jasmine is too delicate to be put through the distillation process used for most essential oil so they use a labor intensive method of enfleurage or through chemical extraction. Because of this special method used the oil obtained is more concentrated than other essential oils. Jasmine essential oil is quite pricey because of the enormous amount of flowers needed to produce a small amount of oil. To extract an ounce of essential oil, it needs forty pounds of flowers.

Variety of Jasmine flower:
- Jasminum grandiflorum - is white flower variety used mostly in herbal remedies.
- Jasminum officinale - is the variety used mostly in aromatherapy and in making perfume.
- Gelsemium sempervirens - is a yellow flower variety, with similar scent, but contains toxic alkaloids that are extremely poisonous, and can cause death.
Medicinal Uses:
- Jasmine oil is used to uplift the spirits in cases of apathy, depression, and produces a feeling of optimism.
- Jasmine scent helps relax the mother and help relieve the pain of childbirth and is thought to increase breastmilk. So is of value as pre and post natal massage oil.
- Jasmine oil is known as an aphrodisiac because it warms and relaxes the body. It also acts on the male sexual organs by warming and it. It therefore has a good effect on impotence and frigidity.
- Jasmine tea warms and strengthens a cold, weak stomach.
- Jasmine oil is use to relieve menstrual pain.
- Jasmine is used for mouth ulcers, and the fresh juice is applied to corns.
- On the skin it is used with great effect to treat dry, stressed and sensitive skins and also helps to increase elasticity.

I've been making teas of this type and then putting them in the refrigerator, does this deminish any of the benefits from the teas?
