Meditation Retreats in New York
78
This hub is in response to a question about retreats in New York, like monastries. For the record, though, I don't think you need to search out a guru to help you find peace or whatever it is you're looking for. Its just that you to need to impose some self-control on yourself, so that your mind is not distracted by 'materialistic' pursuits.
I mean, what most of these 'retreats' just do is cut you off from the BigMacs and nightclubs and Oprah and make you do some exercise and some thinking. If you do the same at home, you can achieve what you want without spending a big wad of dough. But then, trying to save money by not going to a retreat is again materialistic, so.... Anyway, here's a list of meditation retreats in New York which might be suitable for you. Please bear in mind that a lot of these places are filled with cons who'll gain your confidence and fleece you for everything you have, so please use your common sense and don't make any committments above and beyond the usual charge.

Helen, first thing - I'm deeply, deeply sorry if I offended you in any way. Not my intention, believe me. Second, give me some time, and I'll look up the kind of places you want and update this hub. Third, the only Yoga I've ever done is when I tried to stand on my head as a kid and promptly passed out... Never tried it again. But I'd be willing to try some body bending yoga twisting, if you'll agree to forgive the stuff you didn't like in this hub.
Listen, Peeling (is that from a sunburn? Ouch!) anyone who likes chocolate can't be all bad.
I'm touched by your contrition (yipes, there goes Catholicism again). So you are forgiven (or is it forbidden, I'm a poetic punster, you should know). LOL
Please don't body-bend into a Yoga (or is it a Yogi Berra or a Yogi Bear?) pretzl. I don't want you passing out on the West Coast when I'm here on the East Coast unable to rescue you with my professional healthcare skills.
By the way, I perused your President McKinley hub. Was that why someone shot him? Because he industrialized our world to death? You seem to know a lot about things financial, for a lover of chocolate. I didn't think hard cash (handled by a "hack writer" as you have labeled yourself) goes with the sensitivities and sensualities of a chocolate gourmet or is it gormand? What do I know, I love words, they're 3-dimensional to me.
Oh, perhaps you will wish to read one of my most recent hubs due to its presidential similarity: http://hubpages.com/hub/BOREL-OPINION-COLUMN-Femal
Well, Peeling, if you get more information and you don't peel to death in the interim, I'll be looking for it. It's not urgent, tho', so don't lose any sleep over it. Ciao for niao, Helen Borel (a.k.a. Creativita)
Addendum: HubPages did not permit me to correct what they left out, the rest of the url for FEMALE PRESIDENTS! Unless I'm not permitted to indicate urls in comment boxes??? Here goes http://hubpages.com/hub/BOREL-OPINION-COLUMN-Femal HB
Well, Peeling...HP deletes the remainder. So just add -Female-Presidents if you wish to look at this hub. If you do, let me know your opinion. (And, as the German dog said, Arf Wiedersehn, HB)

Thanx, Peeling....Those are interesting listings for people interested in learning specific meditation methods, etc. (Psst, I didn't ask for a "guru," nor do I lack self-discipline. You should be careful about making assumptions.) I merely wished to learn of monastic-type places where there is peace and quiet...as a getaway, instead of the usual type of hotel, spa, beach, etc. "vacations."
Since I live in Manhattan, going to a "center" in my own city is no true getaway and I really wished to find out about monastic locations in upstate New York. I should have been more specific in my Request. Sorry about that.
And I really don't wish to be taught anything by any instructor, or headmaster, or "guru;" I've learned mountains of stuff over decades, am quite intelligent, and already have a great deal of wisdom. I'm highly creative and know how to get into a trance and focus profoundly all by myself. And, the last thing, as a grandma, that I am looking for, is some kind of body-bending Yoga twistings that would put me out-of-joint, so to speak. I just wished to find out more about specific monastery-type retreats for peace and quiet...no instruction.
So...I was hoping for a response that provided, less of a list, more of a detailed description of the accomodations, the ambiance, the natural outdoor beauty, the simple food, the daily monastic schedule of some such retreats in upstate New York. Hopefully from someone who has had experience at one or more of such venues.
Nonetheless, I thank you for tackling this subject. If you, however, have some specific, detailed info about monasteries (probably of the Catholic faith, although I am not a Catholic, nor am I particularly religious in the ordinary sense, though I honor religions in general), I would most appreciate this. I'll visit some of the Catholic-looking websites you listed; however, it would be nice to know of someone who has had experiences at one or more of these....
Anyway, I do very much appreciate that you took the time to answer my request to the best of your ability...any additional specific info relative to what I detailed above, would be most welcome. Helen Borel (a.k.a. Creativita)
