Meditation Is Easy!
52Focus On Any Task
Many people have this preconceived notion that in order to meditate you need to follow a strict doctrine or move to a monastery and dawn a big robe. I am here to say that that is not true. If you really want to do all that extra work then I say go for it but when it comes to meditation there are no rules. Now, the traditional method of meditation is to sit in a comfortable position while closing your eyes and concentrating on your breath. Some people even count each breath, this is pretty helpful for beginners. I'm not going to focus on all of the little details that go along with meditation. Why? 1) Not everyone has the free time needed to reap the benefits of prolonged meditation. 2) There are numerous books and sites that list all the different forms of meditation and go into great detail about each technique. 3) My fingers would probably cramp up from typing about all of those techniques. One thing people sometimes fail to mention about meditation is that just about anything can be a meditation exercise. During traditional meditation all you do is focus on one thing such as your breath, an image, a mantra. Well, have you ever found yourself so involved in a certain task that you get into some kind of a "zone"? That "zone" is what all meditators are always raving about. That is essentially the beginning of the path to "enlightenment". So, the next time you are reading a good book, playing an instrument, solving a puzzle or even exercising...just remember to focus on the task and realize that "Hey! This is MY meditation time."

There are zones and there are Zones. Focused awareness is one thing, being out of your ordinary mind and zoned out into bliss is another. Different states of consciousness. But at the end of the day, a zone is always better than a chaotic mind.

I think you're very right about the zone and what it really is.
