Air Date: 1/21/08 Joe needs employment. A man gets impaled with a corkscrew. The Dubois’ move to Oregon?

The First Dream

The show opens with a young couple in a hotel room in Paris. Music plays. (What is with the eighties music and does Allison Dubois always dream with a soundtrack?) It soon becomes apparent that the Paris couple is not getting along. Words are strained. The young bride impales her husband’s hand with a corkscrew. Allison wakes up.

Joe’s Quest For Employment

Joe has an interview this morning with the only other aerospace company in town. During the interview his (hopefully) future employer – who I will refer to as Mr. X since I cannot remember his name – asks Joe if he is married to the infamous Allison Dubois. Joe begrudgingly admits this is true. Then, surprise, the boss’ wife is extremely interested in meeting Allison. His wife, the boss explains, is a believer. Mr. X is a skeptic but trusts his wife. He then invites the Dubois’ to his home for a party that very evening.

Allison is skeptical. She doesn’t have a good feeling about the party nor does she want to be a sideshow. She agrees, however, to go since her presence may help Joe get the job.

Allison’s fears seem unfounded. The woman is kind and smart and likes Allison. Things seem to be going well until she is introduced the woman’s daughter, Melissa. Melissa is none other than the young woman in Allison’s dreams. Melissa is engaged and will be getting married soon.

Allison pulls Joe aside and wonders if she should tell Melissa about the dream, the corkscrew, etc. Joe is against this idea. After a conversation with the Mrs. X, Allison learns Melissa will be getting married for the second time. Apparently the dreams Allison were having were about events that occurred in Melissa’s past.

The Dubois’ return home, go to bed and get some loving.

The Plot Thickens

In the A.M. Joe gets a call from Mr. X. They are having a family emergency. Allison and Joe arrive at the X house to be told that Melissa is missing. She left a note saying that she needed time to think before the wedding and not to go looking for her. Of course, the family wants to go looking for her. They have private investigators on the case but the mother hopes Allison can do something. Allison tells the parents she has been having dreams about their daughter.

On the way home Joe tells Allison she better find the girl. So much for last night’s love fest.

At home Joe becomes involved in trying to figure out Allison’s dreams as he feels his future employment is on the line. This causes them to misinterpret some signs in the dream and prematurely tell the parents about them.

Allison’s Dreams Don’t Add Up

Allison believes Melissa may be at a “secret hideaway” cabin that she mentioned in the Paris hotel room dream. This sends Allison to meet with Kent, the ex-husband, to determine the location of the cabin. Kent builds dioramas professionally, the kind you see at museums. He wears gloves for his job but doesn’t take them off when he shakes hands with Allison. One can only assume that perhaps the corkscrew wasn’t the only accident that occurred to his hands during that famous Paris hotel scene. He tells Allison about the cabin and gives her the location.

All of this should work out except that Allison has another dream that night in which she sees Melissa in a trunk of a car being held again her will. (No one would willfully be in the trunk of a car in their party dress.) Fearing the worst, and against Joe’s hesitancy, Allison informs the family that the daughter has been abducted prompting the parents to seek police involvement.

At the parent’s home, before police arrive, Allison and Joe sit on the X’s couch and the fiancé arrives. The parents tell him Melissa is being held against her will. This is not so, claims the fiancé and pulls out his cell phone and plays a message from Melissa. In the message Melissa says she is fine but still needs some time.

Mr. X invites the Dubois’ out of his home. One can plainly see Joe will not be getting the job.

At home, Joe is online looking for employment. Allison watches the evening news. They go to sleep.

Allison dreams and sees Melissa in the Paris hotel room watching the same news story she saw only moments ago. Allison wakes with a start.

The Pieces Fall Together

On her own, Allison seeks out the ex-husband. Kent tells her the name of the hotel the two had honeymooned in but he tells her, the place was torn down two years ago. He removes his gloves and Allison sees a freshly bloodied bandage on his hand. She backs away.

It’s Scanlon Time!

Allison goes to the Phoenix Police Department and Scanlon hustles her into a stairwell where Allison tells him her theory. She believes Kent has built an elaborate diorama of the hotel room located somewhere at his place of employment. She thinks Kent is holding Melissa hostage. Scanlon explains he can’t go in and search the place, there’s no way he can get a search warrant. But, wait, if someone were to say, place a bomb threat or pull the fire alarm he could go in legally. In fact, he’ll be in the area in an hour and if he doesn’t investigate a possible bomb or terrorist threat he wouldn’t be doing his job. Allison smiles.

Allison’s Dreams DO Make Sense

The alarm is sounding in the Paris hotel room and Scanlon walks in, rescuing Melissa.

The details are hashed out on the morning news. The girls want to know why Allison wasn’t congratulated. Allison says she’s had enough of the spotlight. Ariel wants to know if this means her dad got the job.

No. In order to spend time with his daughter Mr. X sold the company. But, the new company, wouldn’t they need an aerospace engineer? Ariel wants to know. No. AeroDyTech has enough engineers. Joe’s former employer bought out the company. Joe wants to know how Allison would feel about moving to Oregon.

The Dubois’ begin tickling one another much to the disgust of the older children.

Where Will Medium Go From Here?

Will they move to Oregon? Will this be the end of Scanlon’s recurring character? If they do move to Oregon how will Allison get access to the police department? Will the Department of Homeland Security detain Allison for placing false bomb/terrorist threats? With all the hanky panky will Allison and Joe soon have a son? There are just TOO MANY QUESTIONS!!

Guess it will all be worked out next week when, hopefully, Allison’s dream soundtrack will feature The Killers.
