Some of you reading this hub are familiar with the show Nashville Star on NBC. Nashville Star has been on the air since 2003. I like to call it a ‘Country-music American Idol’ as the contestants competes each week singing different country music songs. The only country music star to come out of the show is Miranda Lambert, but that changed in 2008 when Melissa Lawson was crowned Nashville Star.
About Melissa and her family
She and her husband Rick live with their 5 kids, Maverick, Harlan, Zaden, Xander, and Ryker in Arlington, Texas. All throughout the summer of 2008, film crews were always over at the house filming extras for the show. How did they get a break! Nashville Star was not Melissa’s first time to sing as she sings also at her church, Pantego Bible Church.
Throughout the show, Melissa's goal was to prove America that it is the songs and the voices that count and not the size of jeans you wear. Since the show, she has lost around 100 pounds!

In the last episode of Nashville Star 2008, they announced Melissa Lawson Nashville Star winner of the 2008 show. She was competing against Gabe Garcia in the final round. Her dream came into reality when Billy Ray Cyrus said “Melissa Lawson” as the Nashville Star. Here is a little clip of her singing during the show.

Her Music
During the show, Melissa performed songs such as “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts, “Jesus Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood, “Something to Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt, and “My Baby Loves Me” by Martina McBride. Melissa also sang her own song she wrote called “Ready to Stand”. Melissa is currently working on an album and will be announced at a later date. Be sure and buy her CD because it is filled with great music the whole family will certainly enjoy.

Melissa Lawson is soooooooooooooooo awesome. wonder if we could call her awesome lawson? I have had the pleasure of hearing her sing live, twice, and her voice is smooth and wonderful. Please go see her if you get the chance. She also has a very kind personality. (sorry if I am bragging to much but I believe in her talent and have listened to country music for a long time and this girl can SINGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
