Mélissa earned herself a DUT in News-Communication from the Technical University (IUT) France in Grenoble, and later a Master's degree in Audiovisual Journalism from the Institute of Communication and Media at Échirolles. Mélissa was a reporter at Match TV in 2002 until she moved in 2003 where she has been a reporter and anchor for La Chaîne Info since. It was here where she became more well known to the French public. She made her breakthrough as a news reporter and travel show presenter for LCI, The News Channel and for TF1. Her programs were LCI's Matin (LCI Morning Show), the 6:40 news on LCI and TF1 from Monday to Thursday and the travel show on Wednesdays at 13:55 on LCI.

Mélissa Theuriau has become some what of an internet phenomenon, with her YouTube videos reportedly getting millions of watches from male admirers. Theuriau is written as saying she is surprised by this attention, saying, "I cannot explain it...I am absolutely not seeking this publicity." but of course in french.

In 2006, the Daily Express a British Newspaper voted her the world's most beautiful news reporter. She was also voted "TV's sexiest news anchor" by readers of Maxim. In May 2007, she was voted most beautiful woman in the world in the French FHM. Paris Match has referred to her as la bombe cathodique ("the television bombshell"). In 2006, Voici, a French tabloid, published pictures showing her at the beach.
