Tribal belly dancers already know about Melodia belly dance pants - go to any Tribal performance and you're bound to see them! Melodia Design is a small designer in Southern California, but her dance pants have taken the Tribal belly dance world by storm.
There's a very good reason why Melodia pants are so successful - they may just be the perfect belly dance pant!
Why are Melodia belly dance pants so good?
First and foremost, Melodia pants manage to look surprisingly good on all shapes and sizes, in spite of the close fit around the booty.
It's the combination of the material - which has enough lycra to hold you in but doesn't squeeze you into lumps and bumps - and the wide flare from the knee, which balances the shape above.
It makes sense: after all, we all know that bootcut jeans are best for curvy girls - these are the bootcut shape taken to the extreme!
Second, Melodia pants are well made of good fabric, so you know they're going to stand up to the rigours of dance class (and performance).

Thirdly, they're great for classwear because they combine the coolness of cotton with lycra's ease of movement (and your teacher will love the fact that she can see your legs properly). Yet they don't look boring. Let's face it, who really feels like a belly dancer in trackpants or yoga pants? The wide flares can be tied up, tied together or left alone, and even though they're designed to skim the floor, you won't trip. The skirted version even has a pocket!
The fourth reason - Melodia belly dance pants are great for performing, because they're one of the few costumes that look good and feel genuinely comfortable at the same time. One tip - if you're buying them for performing, do a "sweat test" first!
Any costume that fits around the crotch can develop ugly sweat patches in inappropriate places. It's more likely to show on light colors, so if you have that problem, stick to darker colors, wear something underneath, or add a hip scarf strategically placed to hide that area.
Melodia pants come in a variety of styles and colours. The Mini has a short skirt, the Fringed has (obviously) fringing, there are styles with ruched sides, and even a pant made of lace and powermesh!
Overall, Melodia belly dance pants are a sassy mix of the exotic and the practical - just like most belly dancers, actually...

Thanks for the feedback, Relache. I must confess I don't own a pair of Melodias myself, but based the article on the rave reviews of Tribal bellydancing friends and colleagues. My friend Aradia, who'd be the first to admit she's no sylph, loves them - so I assumed they would be suitable for all larger dancers.
As for dancers less than 5'4" - as someone who falls into that category, I find no one makes pants to suit and I'm resigned to chopping a lot off the bottom!
I'll have to let my aunt know. She just took up belly dancing!
need Melodia pants with 28"inseam and more colorful one like ble, turquoise, white, pale pink, emerald green, etc instead of dark colors all the time which I want wear. thankyou
Diana, I don't sell the pants direct - if you click on the ads, you'll find a link to 'ask seller a question'. She's a lovely lady and Melodia is still a small business, so I'm sure she would be able to make something in the color of your choice.

Melodia sadly does not care about the petite nor the plus size dance market and thus, if are a dancer who is less than 5'4" or who wears larger than about a US size 12, you'll find that they don't make pants to fit you. I'd be wiling to spend on Melodias, and they tend to cost twice as much as other people's flare pants, but when 6" of pants has to be hemmed off the bottom, it just sort of ruins the whole point and design. These will only be "perfect" dance pants if you are tall and thin.
