Memory

All computer users want their system operate at exceptionally fast speeds. The speed at which your computer accomplishes certain tasks and fulfills certain applications is relevant to the amount of memory that it is embedded with. In general the more memory you have in your computer system the faster it will be able to process. However there are a number of things that you need to take into consideration when looking to upgrade the memory of your computer.

The dilemma that most people face is not having sufficient memory to facilitate the proper functioning of their desired applications. However it is also important to take the capacity of your motherboard into consideration when going for a memory upgrade. When it comes to buying a new computer system you should carefully observe how much memory it comes embedded with as this will have a profound impact on how well it performs. This goes irrespective of whether you go for a desktop or a laptop.

As to the question; how much computer memory is sufficient for your requirements? The answer is that this is relative to your intended use. For example a graphic designer will require much more RAM in comparison to someone who wants to use conventional office applications. Similarly if you will be making heavy downloads and playing online games then you need to have ample amount of memory. The heavier the “current workload” is the more memory RAM you will require. This is why computer systems with DVD players, webcams, digital cameras and USB hard drives require significantly larger volume of RAM in comparison to those that run without these peripherals. It is only when you will have sufficient amount of memory RAM that you will be able to perform these functions at their best possible potential.

You will be able to find computer memory with different capacities in the market. The most basic one is the 512 MB RAM. This is the bare minimum that you will find in all computer systems in the market. However this can be upgraded all the way to the level of 4GB RAM which is sufficient enough to run the heaviest of applications.

When it comes to upgrading the memory capacity of your existing computer system then it is imperative that you consult the computer manual for the motherboard. This is in order to determine the specifications of the kind of memory that your motherboard is compatible with. The manual will give you a list of the specifications which can be attached to the motherboard and in this way you will be able to buy the right kind of product.

Ideally you would want to get the maximum amount of memory in the minimum number of modules. This is because you will have more free space on your motherboard to add on more memory if and when required in the future.

Another thing that you need to take into consideration is the minimum requirements of the kinds of applications you intend to run on your system. For example if you are planning to install Windows Vista Home Basic on to your system then you need to know how much RAM it would require to run successfully. The same goes for other software.
