A physician named Profus Meniere discovered Meniere’s disease in 1861. It wasn’t until after his death that his colleagues at the French Academy of Medicine finally accepted his findings. Meniere's Disease has many symptoms that can be mistaken for other ailments that people experience everyday. Unlike regular occurrences of these symptoms, it is when they become more and more severe and frequent they become of great concern and ultimately diagnosed as Meniere's disease.

The symptoms include: recurrent vertigo (sensation of spinning thus falling), hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing or buzzing sounds in ear), dizziness, imbalance and nausea and vomiting. This Vestibular disorder can be extremely debilitating. It can affect those people with the disorder in areas of their lives, which are important such as social, personal and professional life. The patients become withdrawn because the disease takes away the freedom of being able to live a normal life otherwise.

The disease’s symptoms can occur without notice at any time. Sometimes their driver’s license can be suspended due to vertigo and imbalance. This disease is becoming more common but little is still understood about the etiology (cause of). Methods of treatment a broad and can only treat the symptoms and not the disease as a whole. The little knowledge available consists up of the anatomy of the human ear and its individual parts that work in unison to allow the ear to work properly; the ear is used more than just hearing.

It is used for maintaining balance and a sense of control in over the whole body. Besides treating the disease with physical, medication and surgical practices, homeopathy addressed three of the symptoms: recurrent vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus. Stress, sinusitis, overworking, emotional or physical fatigue, additional illnesses, pressure changes, certain foods and too much salt in the diet also seems to play a big part in speeding up the attacks. Reducing these factors can lower the frequency and severity of this Vestibular disorder.

While there is no real cure, having a support system in place can help the patients cope with Meniere's disease. Joining a support group or making contact with others of this disorder can help patients realize the enormity of the affects it has on others. Having friends and/or family attend sessions can also help them a great deal in understanding this is a real disease and can help reinforce the need for support from all angles of relationships. The main thing to remember is that there is no miracle cure or remedy for Meniere's Disease but rather a healthy way of coping and managing it can contribute to a better way of dealing with it.
