In the past when a woman entered into her early fifties she would begin to experience the symptoms of menopause. Premature menopause is now becoming more common than ever before. It is estimated that twenty four million woman in North America are experiencing early menopause. Menopause is a natural part of aging but early menopause is triggered by a number of unnatural factors which include culture, lifestyle and environment.

Woman in their mid-thirties are now seen entering into menopause which last much longer than naturally occurring menopause. Symptoms associated with menopause are the same as symptoms associated with a number of other health conditions that are not considered to be related. They include stressed thyroid and adrenal glands, an overworked and inefficient liver and a sluggish digestive system. The problem for many woman is that their doctors do not link these symptoms together as indicators of menopause. Usual treatments are sleeping pills for insomnia, tranquilizers for anxiety and antidepressants for the blues. Unfortunately, these treatments end up being long term because they do not treat the underlying cause of the condition.

Menopause: Early Menopause Remedies

Symptoms of menopause have been describes as “amplified PMS.” They include irritability, insomnia, apathy, hair loss, lack of concentration, memory problems, weight gain, lack of interest in sex, panic attacks, night sweats and hot flushes, irresistible food cravings and bloating. The cause these conditions is a growing imbalance between estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen increases and progesterone decreases. The baby boomer generation is the first to experience estrogen dominance.

Woman between the years of 38 and 52 have experienced exposure to toxins like never before seen in history. These toxins have the ability to mimic estrogen in the body once absorbed. They have been referred to by scientists as xenoestrogens, which means foreign estrogen hormones. Sources of these toxins are food additives, birth control pills, tap water, pesticides, plastics, solvents, adhesives, soaps and cosmetics, car exhaust, and meat from livestock fed hormone drugs. Once a woman’s hormone imbalance becomes severe, symptoms and health conditions begin to appear. Symptoms include uterine fibroids, chronic low blood sugar, premature aging, infertility and early menopause.

The good news is that not only are these symptoms avoidable, but they are reversible as well. The steps to wellness include eating a hormone regulating diet, using natural progesterone therapy to help bring hormonal balance, regular exercise and stress management.

Many symptoms of early menopause are the same as the symptoms of low blood sugar. Eliminating deficiencies in healthy fats, complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals has been found to quickly eliminate symptoms. A diet which is mostly fresh, raw fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts will improve digestion and elimination, which will aid in ridding the body of excess estrogen. Foods to avoid include all those that cause blood sugar imbalances. They include foods that are high on the glycemic scale, simple carbohydrates and sugars. Basically any food that has been stripped of its fiber such as white flour and sugar products should be avoided. Some examples would be puffed rice cakes, corn flakes and white bread.

Supplements that are effective in alleviating symptoms include dong quai to help relieve hot flashes and balance hormones; flax seed oil for fatigue, depression, increasing metabolism and boosting the immune system; evening primrose oil for anxiety, water retention, irritability and headaches; red clover to detoxify the liver; st. johns wort and valerian to relax nerves and promote sleep; siberian ginseng helps decrease symptoms of depression and balance estrogen levels and and B Complex and magnesium for stress. Thanks Steve for these great tips. Though I hate to admit it, I'm in early menopause; which is much earlier than my mother. She started menopause in early fifties and i in my very early forty. My symptoms are not severe, but I notice the weight gain ( even with working out)and some irritability.

You did not mention anything about hormone replacement theraphy, (bio-identical HRT) I suppose that means that you are proposing diet and supplements? Do you think these may beneficial to some women?

Great hub. I look forward to reading more...

Thanks for your comment DynamicS! Hormone replacement therapy is not recommended. A natural progesterone cream is far healthier and works even better. You can learn more about hormone replacement therapy and progesterone cream by reading my hub entitled Natural Balancing Cream for PMS and Menopause Relief. I have provided a link above.

I have read that the onset of menstruation is also beginning for many young girls at a much younger age - and that this too has been linked to diet, culture and lifestyle.

Thanks for the hub.

Even though I am a man, this is a very interesting and well written article.  I learned some important things that my 3 daughters and 5 sisters should know.  I'll pass it on.  Thanks.

Excellent hub and the information is truly beneficial. I can particularly relate, because I also experienced early menopause, although I am still a diva:) The worst part is, I not only experienced it early, but it appears to be lasting longer!

After almost 15 years of symptoms though, I laugh at myself and take it all in stride. That was the reason for my own article. I came here looking for a related site to link to, and was pleasantly surprised to see a hub devoted specifically to EARLY symptoms. You did a superb job of presenting this information, especially for a guy LOL!

Great hub! I was told I am peri-menopausal 4 years ago by my doctor, and on my birthday! Happy birthday! lol! Well I can laugh now, but wasn't too happy then.

I read somewhere that having tubes tied to prevent pregnancy can trigger early symptoms due to the ovaries being blocked from releasing progesterone along with the eggs during a woman's natural cycle. Don't know how true that is, but makes sense to me.
