Learn more about dealing with Jewelry Salesmen in this E Book!

Dealing with a Jewelry salesman for most guys is a lot like how I feel going to the auto mechanic. Is this guy telling me all I need to know, is this guy giving me a deal or screwing me over? The feeling is understandable, there are some slicksters out there, but most salespeople are respectable. As a former salesman myself I have a lot of experience from my side of the counter. I'm going to try to help you MAYBE get a deal, or at least build a relationship to get a deal on other items later.

We all know the saying "Happy wife, happy life" of course, and with the suggestions from TV, the internet, and radio there is tremendous pressure on us guys to buy jewelry. If you're do get married, you will have to buy a wedding band at the very least.

My first major tip to you, is to shop around. You need to find the salesperson who cares, and you might want to talk to a couple of different salespeople, or the manager for their expertise. Your engagement ring is a huge life changer, so it's good to get somebody else's expert opinion.

Secondly, don't pressure the salesman. If you act rude or try to push a deal, you probably aren't going to get one. And even if you do get a deal, they might not give you great service later. Would you like to be badgered for a deal, or treated badly if you were the salesman? What if you had the ability to give a deal? A lot of jewelery stores operate that way, with a special discount they can give either to close, or to give a deal. This is an "unadvertised discount" and if you badger for it you might not get it, or never get it again from that salesperson.

If you feel that the salesperson is out of line, or doesn't know their stuff, go grab the manager. Having the manager check out your intended purchase, or jump in with the salesperson to give you some tips. If you think something is being covered up by the salesman or the manager, point out the contradiction or keep asking questions- it is YOUR RIGHT as a customer and your duty to your future wife!
